Tip & Tutorial: How to apply cream, liquid or gel blush or cheek tint without staining your fingers

July 3, 2013 Paris B 53 Comments

apply cream blush without staining fingers

I have a love-hate relationship with cream and liquid blushes or cheek stains. On the one hand, I love how a good cream or liquid blush will sit and move with your skin, giving you that barely there, yet natural glow from within your skin. A cheek stain will stay with you long after your powder blush is gone.

Yet, most of these cream or liquid products call for the use of fingers for best results. Quite often you hear of people telling you to work quickly with your fingers to spread and blend the colour on your cheeks, especially if its a product that sets quickly like the Benefit cheek stains. Oh boy, do they set quickly!

Herein lies the problem. I hate how these products stain my fingers. Have you experienced the same thing? It’s especially true of products like the Estee Lauder Cheek Rush gel blush or the Benefit cheek stains like Cha Cha Tint I’ve shown you here. They live up to their ‘stain’ reputation and its a right bitch especially in the morning. So, I shied away from cream/liquid/gel/stain blushes for ages.

That was, until I tried a technique that changed things 180° for me! Now, I can use cream/liquid/gel/stain blushes, it is so much quicker to apply and most importantly I no longer have to contend with stained fingertips! 😀

BB Creams : Why I think they do more harm than good

July 2, 2013 Paris B 130 Comments

bb cream more harm than good

I realise I’m going to be quite unpopular with the BB Cream-wearing crowd after this, but I can’t just sit by and nod and smile and pretend that I’m willing to be privy to the whole madness that is BB Cream, or CC Cream, or any other alphabet cream they choose to come up with. I know DD and even EE creams exist but that’s just nonsense if you ask me.

I have been sceptical about these seemingly all-in-one products for a long time, ever since I told you way back in the day that I didn’t want to talk about BB Creams. Where possible, I still don’t. Unlike many people, I have not been sold on the idea of BB Creams at all. Sure, I use them. But I use them as I would any other makeup, and I treat them as I would any other makeup i.e. It goes on only after my skincare and must be properly removed at the end of the day.

Despite what we are fed and led to believe, BB Creams are NOT skincare. BB Creams are NOT sunscreen and BB Creams are not a miracle skin perfecting product.

And this is my biggest beef with this seemingly miraculous product. I still stand by everything I said back in 2010 about BB Creams. I use them, and my BB Cream horizon has expanded and I even have some faves, but some recent revelations from people have surprised me so much that I’ve realised that BB Creams could actually be doing more harm than good to the general public. Naturally, you don’t have to agree with me 🙂 In fact, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this after I’ve had my say.

A splash of refreshing scent in the aptly named Diptyque L’Eau du Trente-Quatre (Water 34)

diptyque l'eau du trent quartre 34

When I find myself reaching day after day for a sample vial of perfume, revelling in its scent yet almost afraid that I will one day spritz the sample vial and find it empty; when I feel uplifted with just a sniff of the fragrance that stays on me almost all day, changing its scent throughout the day so it never quite smells the same from morning to night.

When I come across a scent like this, I want the full size bottle, dammit! 😛

The one that has me feeling this way is the new Diptyque l’Eau du Trente-Quatre or the new Water 34 fragrance. This is a new scent that is a fresh interpretation of the mainstay, 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. I usually gravitate towards heavier, spicier, woody scents but I can’t quite explain why I am so taken with the freshness of this one.
