5 Seconds of Fame: Paris B and My Women Stuff on NHK World International TV!

July 27, 2013 Paris B 53 Comments

I’m quite excited about this little piece of exposure I received yesterday, which was both nerve-racking as well being terribly exciting. I just wanted to share because this might just be the first and only time I get to be on international TV! So please excuse the narcissism. I promise this will be short.

But yes, I and my little blog were featured in a news segment on NHK World – the international broadcasting arm of NHK, Japan’s broadcasting service, and I was told that it aired internationally on Friday July 26, 2013 at about 8pm Malaysian Time (+8GMT)! The downer of course, is that I have no access to this channel LOL! I have come across it on satellite TV when I stay in hotels, so I knew it existed but domestically, I have no access.

So knowing it was available online was another bonus! 😛 Basically, I was contacted on Friday morning by Ms. Noriko of NHK World, to seek my comments on the Kanebo whitening product recall. You may remember I posted about the Kanebo product discontinuation a week or two back. It started with a report of 39 cases but based on the NHK World news report, this number is now about 7000 which took me by surprise. I haven’t seen many reports about it from anywhere and during our interview, I was told there was a reported case in Taiwan as well. I was very surprised when I was asked to comment on it because I’m no authority now, am I? I’m just a blogger blogging about beauty! 😛

Coming in September: Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne – A pretty feminine scent

July 27, 2013 Paris B 17 Comments

I’d been having  lots of fun playing with my Jo Malone sampler set when I learned not too long ago that in September, there will be a new fragrance launched – Peony & Blush Suede.

Fascinating. Does suede have a smell other than it just being leather? I was quite intrigued by it and took a healthy sniff of it at the preview launch a little while ago. Not available yet folks! Look for it in stores in September.

The thing that hit me was how floral it was.

I don’t know what peonies smell like and I won’t pretend to. I don’t know what suede smells like either because the last suede item I own has fallen apart. Suede doesn’t hold up as well as regular treated leather, for me. But to me, suede will smell of leather. So the idea here is for the scent to open up with a sweet floral and dry down to that of a musky leather.

Sadly, it didn’t smell like that on me when I spritz it on my skin. That’s the thing about fragrances you know. The description can sell it to you, but then you spritz it on your skin and you go “Whaa…??? What was THAT?!”

New! Affordable Sun Protection with Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Milk, Watery Cool Body Mist and After Sun Gel

July 26, 2013 Paris B 15 Comments

Summer season sees a surge in sunblocks and sunscreens, which for us here in the tropics is a year round affair. Are you tired of me banging on about using sunscreen daily already? Well, sorry babes, gonna keep banging on about it!

With the huge selection of affordable sunscreen on our shores, there really is no excuse not to use it. I have my favourite one and its pricey, I acknowledge, but for those on a tighter budget (and that includes me because I’ve just put myself on a beauty diet!) here are some new and affordable alternatives from Mentholatum.

sunplay skin aqua

Mentholatum brought in their Skin Aqua sunscreen a few years ago and like many Japanese style sunscreen, it has a very lovely light emulsion texture that makes wearing it very comfortable. For some reason, the Japanese have done for sunscreen what few Western brands have managed to do – make sunscreen comfortable to wear!

Previously, we had the Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk but now there are another 2 products in their arsenal. The Skin Aqua UV Silky Smooth Milk SPF50 PA+++ and Skin Aqua UV Whitening Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++ priced at an affordable RM35.90 each.

The Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution is clearly a complete misnomer

July 25, 2013 Paris B 52 Comments

You know, I’d forgotten about this one. Remember when it was first launched last year? I remember lots of people loved it. I was gifted a bottle and I almost finished it up but for some reason, I didn’t review it. Ah bad me! In fact, I’d totally forgotten about this until Sam the Curious Bear pinged me on Twitter to ask me about it.

It turned out we both share the same view on it – it sucks at what it claims to do.

kiehl's clearly corrective dark spots solution

Yeah you read it right. It sucks.

Alright, lets be fair. No product that claims to eradicate dark spots topically work. If they did, I’d have porcelain, clear, freckle and pigmentation free skin. I would be the best example of someone on whom dark spot serums should work. None do. The only one that has come closest to lightening my dark spots is the Clinique Even Better Clinical serum. Even then, it lightens it to a degree and then plateaus. The only way you will actually see any results is if you go for laser treatment.

So, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about this very popular Kiehl’s product. I know many of you have given it a go. Do you like it? Did it work as promised for you or are you like Sam and I sitting here going “Huh? My dark spots are not diminished, dammit!”
