If you’ve ever seen the colour of corals in the ocean, they come in every shade of the rainbow. So technically, a coral coloured lipstick could be blue or green or yellow. But we’d look rather strange walking around with blue, green or yellow lips (beautiful if we were tropical fish, less beautiful on humans, I can assure you) so the most common shade we associate with “Coral” is a reddish-orange.
The Lipstick Bandit assignment this time is to pick a coral lipstick. There was a bit of a debate as to what entails the colour “Coral” but I’ve always associated it with the reddish orange of a coral trout. Ever seen one? (If you haven’t, you’re in for a treat!) I think that’s where the color “Coral” comes from. I picked a coral lipstick once for the summer edition last year so I was a little stumped because as much as I love the bright shade that is coral, I realised I don’t own many. But as I started to despair, as providence would have it, along came a coral delight 😀
My pick for this edition of Coral coloured lipsticks is the Dior Addict Extreme lipstick in Délice layered with the new Addict lipgloss in Délice. Délice means “Delight” in French and none is as delightful as these bright sunny shades that bring thoughts of sunning on the Riviera with the deep blue sea yonder.
The lipstick is in the Dior Addict Extreme formula which by way of a quick refresher is a more pigmented version of the regular Dior Addict lipsticks, without losing the balmy, moisturising, smooth texture that I associate with Dior Addict lipsticks. Délice is a new shade available from this month, and is in tube, a lovely bright coral that is a true blend of orange and red. I received these last month and have been dying to tell you about them since simply because the colour calls to me 😛
The lipstick on its own is glossy and fairly pigmented in one swipe and absolutely non drying on lips. Don’t expect it to last though. Lipsticks that have slip and are moisturising rarely last very long on lips but the colour is a very lovely coral that immediately brightens up the complexion. I layered it with the new formula Dior Addict lipgloss extreme in Délice which is the sparkly version (It comes in 3 formula and I’ll talk about it in a separate post) and as a colour, pulls more orange than coral.
Here’s Délice lipstick layered with Délice lipgloss. It is a bright shade but not so bright that you feel self-conscious wearing it. You may also notice that it pulls more orange than red but it has a lovely way of brightening up the complexion even worn with minimal makeup as I did here.
Here’s another shot to show you that no, its not as washed out as it looks in the first picture. The Délice lipgloss is very shiny and flashy. Less pigmented on its own than when layered over the matching lipstick. I like how this is orange but not orange, and bright but not too bright. Its a very fun colour to wear and definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the Addict lipgloss and lipstick as I am.
If this shade of coral doesn’t do it for you, the rest of the Bandits will have something that you may like, I’m sure :-

I realise the lip swatch in this post isn’t as clear as I’d like it to be, but its one of those times when I just couldn’t quite take a good enough shot to save my life. So I leave you instead of a bunch of outtakes where I was goofing off in front of the camera, trying my darnest to get a good lip swatch and failing at every turn. Ah well, at least we’d have a good laugh over it 😉
You may even get an idea of how Délice looks under different circumstances LOL! I love the colour – not so crazy about what I did with it 😉
On a related note, following on that trout pout in the montage above, here is an image of a coral trout for those unfamiliar with our pelagic friends 🙂 This is the colour I associate with “Coral”, as nature intended.
How often do you see ocean fish appear on a beauty blog? Not often, eh? 😉 Image was from 21food.com and yes, this is a very yummy fish. The coral trout (locals may recognise it as a “chat sing pan” – cantonese) is a sea fish, and isn’t technically part of the trout family but related to the grouper family. Its usually found in tropical waters worldwide and is an expensive fish when served in restaurants or even if you can find it at the fresh fish market. Best eaten freshly steamed with ginger and spring onions 😛
Do you have a favourite coral lipstick?
Are you confused about “coral” as a colour or do you have a clear idea on what the colour looks like? I do, but then I have a very attractive (and yummy) point of reference 😀

LOL the outtakes and the fish! It’s so pretty I would feel bad eating it (or maybe not, if it’s really tasty)!
I swatched all the new Addict and Addict Extremes just a few days ago, and Delice is pretty much a pure orange on me so I ended up going with Spring Ball Addict Extreme. My skin tone pulls all the orange there is in a shade, and that’s why I’m more into coral pinks. The combination is sooo pretty on you 🙂
Paris B says
Haha yes, its a tasty fish this one 😛 I think definition of coral is very subjective, depending on our skin too as you have pointed out. I have fairly neutral skin so most of the time, unless its a bright orange, but I want that Tom Ford True Coral now, dammit!
Krisz says
You are very very beautiful on the 2nd picture 🙂 (and on the others too but the 2nd is the best) Have a nice day and greetings from Hungary!
Paris B says
You are too sweet, Krisz 😀 Thank you so much and you’re from Hungary! Its such a beautiful place, I hope to visit some day 🙂
Mariella says
Oh gorgeous, I need too check those out!
Paris B says
I’m sure you’ll be able to find a pretty colour from the range, Mariella! 🙂
Rin says
I really love the colour on you! So beautiful! Most of the times I am confused with the colour ‘coral’. I just made up my mind that ‘coral’ = reddish orange. Hehe. By the way, I like your blue eyeliner!
Paris B says
Thank you Rin 🙂 I used to be a little confused too, but like you I just settle for reddish orange – whatever doesn’t fall in either category hehe…
Teri says
Yay for the outtakes! You are just too cute Paris! ^^ I was very tempted to buy Delice, I love the strong orange tone in it, well I actually like all the new shades, hah! I’m really loving the bold blue eye liner that you are rocking too!
Paris B says
Hahaha Thanks Teri 😀 Gosh, it was so hard to take photos for this one! I love the new shades too but my wallet won’t let me have them all, boo! 😉
Tracy says
Hahaha LOVE the combo and LOVE the outtakes! You look lovely in coral!
Oh, and that fish? How can you eat him? He’s so PRETTY! 😛
Paris B says
Thank you Tracy 😀 You looked lovely too and who else looks lovely in blue lipstick I ask you? 😀 The fish is really nice… even on my plate 😛
Arianne says
YES. Another pretty coral combo. 🙂
Why you show us the pretty fish? If I know it looks like that, I wouldn’t have the guts to eat it. 😛
Paris B says
Hahaha it looks as pretty on the plate you know! But its quite a delicacy – still it makes a lovely lipstick colour! 😀
lyn says
Too cute! You should do more kissy shots 😉
Coral like any other colour has variations of the shade. My favourite type is a pinky coral. Delice seems to lean more to an orange/red coral and I think this colour will look quite nice on most skin tones.
Paris B says
Hahaha ok will do more kissy shots LOL Shows off lipstick better 😛 I like the reddish corals but hey, who’s to say what really is coral eh? 😉 I think you’d look fab in Delice
Larie says
Oh, so spicy, Paris! And LOL at the fish. This sort of reddish coral is my favorite, too. You look fab! And oh, jealous, tank tops! Still in long sleeves and fleece here T_T
Paris B says
I’ll send you some sun if you’ll send me some cooler weather, Larie! Its blistering hot here! (perfect for wearing coral lipstick but too hot for anything else, like clothes! LOL) I’m glad we agree on the sort of coral tones that suit us. I can’t do the strong orange toned ones either.
Attika says
Paris! Your blue eyeliner kills me, I need it nooooww! What is it? I just love the combo of blue liner and coral lips <3
Paris B says
Thank you Attika 😀 The eyeliner is the cream eyeliner by Laura Mercier in Cobalt. Its a bright blue!
Claire says
yes, yes, yes … DIOR! absolutely love this collection, Delice is more orange on me but I still like it 😀 love those pictures, especially the second one of you, reminds of an add I saw – biteki magazine (skincare I believe), beautiful!
Paris B says
Aww thank you Claire! I look like I’m in an ad – you’ve made my day 😀 I need more from this collection, I swear. Dior does lip stuff so well!
Tine @ Beautyholics Anonymous says
Ooh coral trout is chat sing pan? See I didn’t know that! I just call it the cheaper sister version of the salmon. BAHAHAA!
Okay back to the lippie. Gorgeous. Love the coral on you. I prefer corals to pink in lippies; my favourite so far is still Tom Ford’s True Coral, although Maybelline’s Color Sensational lipstick in Shocking Coral is a very close second 🙂
Paris B says
Hahaha see, you learn something new everyday, even if its about fish from a beauty blog 😉 I can’t wear pink lipstick – I always look dead or dying 😛 But I think I now need that Tom Ford True Coral. Must get it!
Jessica says
I loved the addition of outtakes! So clever. I have yet to check out Dior’s ever expanding line of glosses, but I think I may have to make a visit to my local counter this weekend inspired by My Women Stuff … you just make Délice look so lovely!
? Jessica
Paris B says
Thanks Jessica and I think Delice would look absolutely FAB on you! Do share if you get it 😀 (The new glosses are super pretty too! Its hard not to want to take home the whole counter LOL!)
Lily says
I love the look of Délice on you! And the FISH! I’ve eaten it before, but I didn’t know it looks like that >.<
Paris B says
Thanks Lily 🙂 And yes, this very famous fish! Its pretty eh? I’d love a lipstick in this shade 😀
Victoria says
This coral lipstick looks lovely on you and definitely brightens up your look. Love the goofy pictures 🙂

Thank you, my dear! 😀

Paris B says
*makes kissy face at you* 😀 Thanks Wandz!
Angela says
Wow! That fish is really bright and beautiful. And I was just about to say that I hope it doesn’t end up on someone’s dinner table, and then I saw you mentioned chat sing pan. Oh No! I think I ate this before. Now I feel bad.
Paris B says
Oops, sorry! I think mother nature makes the best colour palettes! 🙂
beetrice says
LOL trout AND a trout pout today? Love the combination – and that gloss hue is just too pretty! 😀 Have yet to try a true coral, but this one looks very wearable…
Paris B says
Haha thank Bee! I’m on a roll today with the trout 😀 I want that Tom Ford True Coral thanks to our friends down under 😛
