I’m showing you here, a few of the products from Kiehl’s that I’ve tried and which I like and still happen to own. I’ve used a number in my time and after I got over the dud that was my first purchase (ironically, the #1 Lip Balm – meh :P) its been generally smooth sailing. Generally, I’ve had a lot of success with Kiehl’s products in that some of them work remarkably well for me – Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate are 2 of them that I still use quite regularly.
I ran through 2 tubes of the Kiehl’s UV Defence sunscreen before moving on (it got a bit oily and the price hurt my wallet more than I cared to acknowledge) and I’m now enjoying the BB Cream (more on this to come!) I used to also love the Ultimate White exfoliator and successfully enabled a few friends into picking up a tube (which lasts forever and a day, incidentally) but it has now been reformulated and renamed to the Clearly Corrective Skin Brightening Exfoliator but which still is a pretty good product. I’m not too crazy about the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution which I feel is only average in what it does.
The list goes on! (you can read my Kiehl’s exploits here)
But I know that some of you have tried the products I love (notably the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – still in love after 3 years! Some relationships don’t even last this long 😛 ) and have been less than impressed. Some of you have also reported that your skin doesn’t even like it. (sorry, peeps it does work really well on me)
Did you know then that if you aren’t 100% satisfied with the product you purchased, you can get your money back? You didn’t? Now you do! 😀
I believe this is the first time I’m hearing about such a strong promise and guarantee here in Malaysia. Most of the time, we have to just suck it up and use it, or give it away to friends or in some cases, sell it on and hope to recoup some of the money we spent on the product.
I just found out about this, so I wanted to share the news. This isn’t sponsored (although I wouldn’t mind a bottle of MRC, you know… to replenish stock LOL! :P) but I felt it was useful to share this with you (since I will sometimes fall in love randomly with a Kiehl’s product and I wanted you to know that you have your options if your relationship goes pear shaped 😉 )
I checked with the people at Kiehl’s and the return/exchange policy is valid for up to 30 days from purchase, and you have to take it back with your original receipt, to the store where you bought the product from. I think that’s pretty reasonable.
Also, you may already be familiar with the sampling policy at Kiehl’s, where samples are relatively generously handed out (some stores or KCRs – Kiehls calls their SAs Customer Representatives – are more generous and friendly than others) and this April, you can head down to a Kiehl’s store, attend to a 5 minute consultation and pick up 5 samples. You can still do it on normal days and if you make a purchase, they are usually quite amenable to including some samples too. Again, some KCRs or stores are more generous than others. I’ve had pleasant and unpleasant encounters overall, but it never hurts to ask.
I believe this policy is also practiced in Kiehl’s stores worldwide but it would be best to check with your local store. My info is valid only in Malaysia for now 🙂
Do you have a favourite Kiehl’s product?
I actually have quite a few products I like but my overwhelming fave is still the MRC. I would love to see more brands have a policy like this. Heaven knows, as we discussed just a few days ago, not every product will suit 100% of the population so its useful to be able to do something about it, rather than waste our money. Good job, Kiehl’s. Lets see how this leads the way for the rest to follow 😉

Firn says
Ooh that sounds good! I’ve been eyeing up their BB cream as it seems to have a short ingredient list but I am leery of just shelling out for another useless/harmful (as in, causing a reaction on my skin) product so the return policy sounds great!
I will have to check the Singapore stores if they have the same policy and get me some samples too! 🙂
Are you going to review the BB cream anytime soon?
Firn says
Oh, just checked, in Singapore they only do exchanges (and with a very strict policy, I suspect) and no refunds. Looks like it’s better to buy Kiehl’s in Malaysia!
Paris B says
Thanks for the heads up Firn! I read they dropped the prices in Singapore so I’m hoping that happens here too! 😉
Paris B says
They were doing a BB Cream sampling exercise here recently. Did you do the same in Singapore, Firn? It being so new, I think they’ll have the samples on hand to let you try before you decide if its worth the splurge (because it is rather pricey!) I will get to the BB Cream soon, promise! 😉
Firn says
Yes, I did snag a sample but am waiting for my skin to calm down before I try it out. I’m a bit worried because of the alcohol content tbh. :/ I have no problems with Lunasol’s Skin Modeling foundation which also contains alcohol so let’s see how it goes.
Paris B says
Ah ok. My skin isn’t too fussy about alcohol but I just realised I rarely wear the same foundation for days straight, haha! Prefer to switch around as I feel in the morning. It’ll be good to know how you feel about this BB Cream 🙂
Catherine says
Thanks to you now I love Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Ive been using also their clearly corrective serum and I quite like it. I also like their Vaille&cèdre shower gel but thats mostly because of the smell. The most I love that they give many samples, this is something which other companies should learn to do too.
Paris B says
Yay for loving the MRC too, Catherine! I use it every so often just to perk up my skin and the scent is lovely too! I didn’t find that the Clearly Corrective Serum did anything for my skin so just found it average but at least it wasn’t drying. I haven’t tried many of their shower gels and I have to agree with you on loving their sampling policy – its awesome! Gives us the confidence to go back and buy (and to tempt us perhaps? 😉 )
Sandra says
I bought a bottle of MRC after reading your post (that was 2 years ago) and still using (and loving) it now. I tried Melvita’s apricot kernel oil but it breaks me out! o.O
Paris B says
Hurrah for MRC! 😀 Its a staple as far as I’m concerned. The only thing that can perk up my skin when its feeling dull. Sorry to hear about the Melvita oil 🙁
Cynthia says
I wanna hear more of the bb cream. 🙂
Paris B says
Coming right up, Cynthia 🙂
Sam Bear says
I’ve been using the Clearly corrective dark spot solution for about two months now and I haven’t seen a huge improvement with my freckles! How did you find it on your skin? Did it help? (I tried looking for the post on your blog with the review of it but alas, did not manage to find it)
Also, I’m using a sample packet of the PSLRC but not sure if its working or not. Seems to work on the short term (my fine lines seem to fade when I first apply it! Kinda amazing I think) then results fade over time (until I reapply it that is!).
And my favourite Kiehl’s product… I can’t really say (even though I’m using three different Kiehl’s products at the moment!) as I’ve only recently got into using their stuff since my friend introduced me to the Midnight Recovery Eye cream. So far I’m enjoying their products but as for effectiveness I’ll have to wait and see I guess.
Anyhow, I’m glad I found your blog – there’s so much stuff here that’s so informative!
Paris B says
Hi Sam Bear (cute name!) I didn’t blog about the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution because like you, I didn’t get any benefit from it. I used up almost 3/4 of the bottle and although it isn’t drying and my skin did even out in tone, the pigmentation/freckles were still there, clear as day! As for PSLRC, I find it does help my skin look better with regular use. Once I stop, the effects do wear off over time as does usually happen with most skincare products. A lot of the time, effects will be visible with regular use – I’d be worried about anything that gives you an immediate result! 😉 Thanks for coming by!
Sam Bear says
Oh I see, I think I’ll keep on looking for a product to reduce my freckles then. I had really high hopes for this too… Have you tried any other pigmentation reducing products? If you have, are there any you could recommend me?
Paris B says
The only product that I found worked for me to lighten freckles/pigmentation a little was Clinique Even Better serum. I’ve got a review here. But I haven’t used it in a while. I find that when I keep my skin well hydrated, pigmentation is less noticeable. We can’t remove it anyway – only way is through laser 🙂
synical says
Got more products that don’t work for me than those that did, like the Daily UV Defense (broke me out when I was trying the sample, but I still have a new tube that I won in a contest that I don’t think I can use now..)
But good to know Kiehl’s Malaysia now have a refund policy; plenty of stores (like Sephora overseas) have it, but I think I can understand why they think Malaysia “not ready for it” 😛
Paris B says
Sorry to hear the products don’t work for you, but then, not everything will work for everyone so its almost to be expected 🙂 I would say personally, that Kiehl’s is doing a really bold move by offering this money back guarantee. I can see the potential abuse but hopefully not too many people will abuse the system and spoil it for the rest of us 🙂
Jennifer says
Oh this is a wonderful policy. Consumer empowerment on the statisfaction level as opposed to their advertisement claims. Awesome 🙂 I wonder what is the basis of their money back guarantee, i.e. should the product be left with a certain content level at the point of money back request or the reason is confined to some areas such as allergy or even if you’re simply dissatisfied because you don’t see any results at all? So far they’ve done a good job in terms of sample request. This money back guarantee adds to the icing 🙂
Paris B says
I agree, Jennifer! I was pleasantly surprised when I found out about this policy because it really does put your money where your mouth is! There is a 30 day window that I know of, from date of purchase and I would expect that if your skin really broke out, it would happen in about 2 weeks or so. I’m not sure how it’ll work, but I’m glad that there’s an option available to those who do genuinely suffer from a problem after using the products 🙂
Shija says
This brand i haven’t try… What do u recommend? I wanna ask for sample tapi macam malu pulak…
Paris B says
Oh, don’t be malu Shija 🙂 They have a present sampling programme going on where you can just walk in, sit for a quick consultation and walk away with a bunch of samples 🙂 Kiehl’s has a very good sampling policy so do ask. As for what I like, it will be the ones I’ve shown you above (I’ve linked to the reviews) They work well for me, especially MRC.
Angela says
I really love my Midnight Recovery Concentrate. Works so well for my skin. I haven’t tried that Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate yet but my mom loves it. She’s on her second bottle now.
Paris B says
You probably don’t need the PSLRC 😉 I love the MRC too – such a great product! (Lasts so long too!)
Michelle Beh says
I love the MRC as well especially the eye cream . Before using the MRC eye cream, I had been having issue with other eye cream as they caused milia seed around my eyes area. But since I started using the MRC eye cream, milia seed is not a problem anymore. I’m so happy with it ! Though I’m not sure whether the claims of the effects did happen or not but I still love the texture of the eye cream:)
Paris B says
Nice to know you like the MRC eye cream Michelle 🙂 I am not crazy about it but it didn’t irritate my eyes or anything.
Lily says
It would be great if other brands adopt this policy as well. A great move from Kiehl’s indeed 🙂
Paris B says
I would most certainly hope so! Yet I can almost imagine how wary many brands must be 😉
Jerine says
Oh… I didn’t know Kielh’s have such policy. Thanks for sharing!
Paris B says
Yep! I was pleased to learn about it 😀
Victoria says
Thanks for the information. Was at Kiehl’s on Saturday and did not realised that this policy was happening this month. You have enabled me to purchase Clearly Corrective Skin Brightening Exfoliator and Midnight Recovery Concentrate and it will definitely remain a staple in my skincare regime. LOL. I have used a sample of Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution but cannot really say it made much difference to my skin since the sample only lasted less than a week. I have also used a sample of Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate but don’t really know what to make of it. Perhaps I should diligently used the sample until its finish to see a better result.
Paris B says
I’m with you – the Dark Spot Solution did nothing for my dark spots either 😛 Kiehl’s sampling policy is always there so its not just a 1 month thing but I think they are just being extra generous this month 🙂
Joy Chong says
ZOMG gonna go Khiel’s crazy! Have always hesitated when trying new products because I used to be able to return them in Australia but since I live in Malaysia, no such luck. TILL NOW!!
Joy Chong says
oops I mean Kiehl’s
Paris B says
I think its an awesome idea too 🙂 Plus they’ve always been generous with their sampling so that’s another feather in their cap! I’m not sure what the terms are like for returns so it will pay to ask them just to be sure.
Sam says
I adore Kiehl’s – and like that Aussie prices are now almost the same as US. I did a haul today and got the Midnight Recovery to try. I’ve realised that my skin likes Kiehl’s more than Estee Lauder (good price saving skin!)
Paris B says
Hehe I love the MRC! Still loving it after so many years – Kiehl’s definitely got it right with that one!
Andrew says
Have you tried kiehls Over-Night Biological Peel?
Paris B says
No I haven’t, sorry can’t help you there
Wojis says
I like Kiehl’s well the stuff I tried and liked, I am very happy with the lip balm, silk hair stuff & night serum… there realy is no cream I like yet… due to my personal taste and I would love to try the BB, but I have lot still so I will wait just a little bit.
Paris B says
I think their BB is here to stay… until they decide to do a CC maybe? LOL! Glad to know Kiehl’s products have worked for you 😉
nadz says
hi…
juz want to add even though u lost the receipt, u can still opt for product exchange.
the policy is stated at the bottom of the/my receipt.
am thinking of returning the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution which breaks me out.
maybe i’ll exhange it with MRC.
