Some of you who follow me on Instagram or who are following the MWS Facebook page may remember me showing you a picture of my latest skincare empty. It was the Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal Gel Cream and I’d scraped out every last bit of it. Its been a while since I’ve done this so its a great achievement for me 😀
It got me thinking however as to why I’d managed to make such big inroads into this one when I usually have a few half used tubs of cream here and there. Bad habit, I know. I’ve been doing this for years, even way before blogging 😛 But when I thought about it, I realised why I managed to finished this one so I’ll tell you why 😉
Have you finished any skincare lately and if you did, how and why did you manage to finish this one and perhaps not another?
For me, I narrowed it down to about 3 reasons:-
- It suited my skin. This gel cream was hydrating and fit my skin well. It felt comfortable and I didn’t feel the need to switch around to accommodate picky skin.
- It was handy. I kept this one within easy reach and it became almost routine for me to reach for this cream day and night. I behave almost like a robot sometimes, reaching for oft-used products without even thinking about them. Sometimes, halfway through my routine, I “wake up” and wonder what stage I’ve reached – am I supposed to put on serum or moisturiser next? Uh-oh!
- I got lazy. I have to admit this played a big part 😛 I just got tired of switching around and of trying new things. So I stuck to this cream and before I knew it, uhoh! I’d cleaned it out! LOL Not too bad when I think about it. At least now I can move on.
How about you: Have you finished something recently and if you did, did you have any reasons for sticking to that particular item?
I know its a bit of a strange question but if you just think about it, I’m sure you too will have your reasons for finishing up one product and not another 🙂

I finished my ANR and Hada Labo cleanser recently. I finished them because they worked well for me, so I was using diligently and cannot stand the half used products staring back at me whenever I am tempted to open another new product. Of course, there’s also the part where I did not want to waste the products because chances of me going back to the old ones versus the new ones will be low. So I tend to plan opening new products in a systematic way 😛 Too accountant centric I guess – First In, First Out (FIFO).

Omg you reminded me of accounts class with FIFO! Lol! I try for FIFO but I think in many cases, its LIFO instead, especially when I get overexcited to try something new and then get bored lol!

I actually tend to be pretty consistent about finishing bottles of my favourite cleanser (Dermalogica’s Precleanse) and my favourite moisturisers (LUSH Vanishing Cream for face, Moogoo MSM Cream for body) – I think the reason is that these are my HGs, and thus far I haven’t been able to find anything to top them (and that’s saying a lot, because I’ve been a skin care fanatic for years). With every other kind of product, I can always find some areas that need improvement, and thus I’m always on the search for something better. I guess unless I’m totally thrilled with something, I tend to have a “wandering eye” – and I’m less motivated to finish up the less-than-perfect product. Hence, all of my half-finished bottles!

I know exactly how you feel about the less than perfect product, because it feels horrible using it knowing its just average. I think we just want to find something that’s HG all the time, but it doesn’t come along that easily does it?

To say, I only managed to finish up my Nivea night cream but it was years ago. Didn’t see much differences so I tried many other brands from high end, drugstore brand to Korean skincare. Still in the midst of looking the most suitable ones. So, now I’m putting my effort to finish all of them before it expires. Wish me luck!~
