A little while ago, I posted this picture on Instagram of me in my loafers. I’d watermarked it with the site logo and didn’t think much of it until Jess and Connie commented that they thought I’d gotten a tattoo on my leg.
Its not obvious in a larger photo but on a small screen, it did rather look like a tattoo. And a very vain one too, if I had actually gotten a tattoo of my site logo on my leg LOL! But I was thinking about it recently and wondered a little about tattoos.
Would you get a tattoo or do you already have a tattoo? What prompted you to get it done and have you any regrets? Reckon I’ve got any? 😉
The answer is no. I don’t have any tattoos for a couple of simple reasons – nothing has ever really driven me to want to ink something permanent on my skin, I don’t have anything I am particularly passionate or interested in to have it drawn on my skin and I am afraid of pain. Ok lets just say that its the pain factor LOL!
I guess I’m just not all that driven either. I suppose it would be cool to have a tattoo and if I did, I’d be one of those with the really large ones because what’s the point, if no one can see it. That’s my motto anyway. If I’m going through with it, I’ll go large or go home LOL! 😛
Do you have a tattoo and if you do, what is it? Have you ever thought about getting one?
I toyed with the idea a little while ago but then I realised I didn’t know what to draw. Words are too permanent and I wasn’t keen on anything too abstract or dainty because I did not feel like I could identify with anything. In the end, the feeling passed 😛

i have… a lot of tattoos! i want people to see me and in one look know exactly what i am about; pictures are worth a thousand words, right? some of them mean special things to me or are souvenirs from a place i’ve been. others are just there because they look nice. i am not afraid of pain or needles (i remove blood from people for a living, heh) but tattoos hurt a lot less than you think! i would compare it to scratching a bad sun burn. if fear of pain or needles is the only thing thatt’s stopping you, i’d say there is nothing to it… but i wouldn’t try to convince a person otherwise. permanent is permanent and it would suck to have something ugly or meaningless stuck on you for the rest of your life.
Paris B says
aww you made tattoos sound perfectly painless! I think its great that you enjoy having them and that they mean something to you. I personally can’t think of anything I’d want permanently etched on my skin so by the time I do figure out what I want, I’ll probably be too old and my skin too saggy lol! 😉
rudi says
A big NO for myself as I am scared shitless of pain – even taking blood for a test scares me.
But I love looking at tattoos on others – with their permission of course. On a trip I had a great time looking at this 20’s guy’s tattos on his arms – gorgeous Japanese style tattoos of chrysanthemums and other stuff. Apparently his mum had no objections and had supported his decision to get them but with a caveat that they be beautiful ones and not those blood and gore stuff!
Paris B says
Haha I like your story. I’m not keen on the blood and gore tattoos myself, but I find it a bit weird seeing something like Winnie the Pooh (yes I have!)! I do like seeing well done tattoos on others too. Some can be very artistic!
gio says
I like small tattoos, but I would never have one done. I’m too scared of that pain! Besides, like you, I haven’t found anything yet that I’d like to be inked on my skin permanently. That is such a long time!
Paris B says
Lol! Too true, Gio. ,y biggest fear is waking up one day and deciding I didn’t like it. What then?!
xin says
not sure if i have the guts for tattoo, but even if i were to get one, it is never going to be any names. i have a friend (who i thought would be the last person to get tattoo) went to phuket and came back with a tattoo! (a small heart with wing). she said it was raining almost everyday, and they couldnt do any sight seeing or beach activities. so tattoo was the only activity! it reminded me so much of the movie Hangover 2 but my friend wasn’t drunk. talk about impromptu eh?
Paris B says
Haha that quite funny actually but I don’t think you’d be that impromptu 😉 I think what I’d be worried too is about the hygiene bit. I mean, this is needles and blood we’re talking!
plue says
not a tattoo person and i doubt i will ever get one.
what if one day i regret the decision and decided to take it off? am not gonna put myself into such pain twice! 😛
Paris B says
I hear its even more painful to remove and there’s the risk of scarring too. I think I’d rather not risk that 🙂
Becca says
I have 2 tattoos–one that I love and that is easy to hide and one that I kinda-sorta…maybe not necessarily actively regret because, as someone else mentioned in these comments, it really becomes a part of you and I hardly notice it anymore but I guess it’s not my favorite thing in the world. And if tattoo removal were not so expensive I would probably get it removed 😛 It’s not that I hate it, it’s just that I got it when I was really young and it doesn’t hold any meaning for me–not like my other one does. Still, I do like tattoos. There are good ones and then there are really bad ones but ultimately, if you are happy with it then that’s all that matters 🙂
Also, there is nothing more romantic than a guy getting your name tattooed to his body. Oh, I would just LOVE that if someone did that for me!! 😛
Paris B says
Ah Becca, I never pegged you for a girl with tattoos! I think its sort of cool 😀 but as you have pointed out, it has to mean something or its easy to get fidgety about it. I had a henna design on my arm once, and way before it faded I was already bored. I think that’s when I realised I could never get a permanent tattoo 🙂
Yue rain says
looks cool on others but not on myself yet. i can’t tolerate the pain of removing it later since it is permanent.
Paris B says
Yeah, I think many of us who aren’t so sure about inking something permanent on ourselves will think twice about getting a tattoo. As those who have it have said, you really have to love it or have a meaning assigned to it, for it to make sense.
MakeUpMonster says
I have two and once you get one you always have another one in the back of your mind! I have them in places that are very easy to hide:)
Paris B says
That’s a very good idea, keeping tattoos easily hidden, you never know who may object to them and you don’t want it spoiling your chance for a job or opportunity 🙂
lisa says
What for? I’m not one for pain. The pain-est i’ve gone was piercing on my ears. I rather get another piercing than to have a tattoo *if i’m brave enough*. I’ve tried henna tattoo on my hands and after a day *or less*, i always get sick of it though the designs i’ve tried were simple. And i will develop this very strong urge to scrub it off. So i know i’m definitely not one for something permanent.
Paris B says
Hahaha I did the henna thing too and way before the ink had faded, I wanted to get it off already! Unless I feel very strongly about having a particular design, I don’t think I can last
Marina(Makeup4all) says
I do have a tattoo actually which I have got years ago, and there wasn’t a day when I had any regrets. And I would like to get more in the future)
Paris B says
That’s pretty cool, Marina! I never thought of you as one for tattoos! 😀
Nikki says
NAY for me, never plan to get one but I don’t judge people who have them, they actually look cool on them but probably weird on me! I think one huge reason is that I still want to be able to “donate blood” so I want to make sure I steer clear on tattoos 🙂
Paris B says
Oh that’s a valid point, Nikki. There is some hygiene issues related to tattoos and it can be scary, what can go wrong!
Lingzy says
It’s a nay for me. I appreciate art.. like a lot but to have it tattooed permanently, it’s not something I would want on myself. It may be symbolic -yes. But then again, to me art exists in so many different form, types, shapes and colors.. it’s can always change. Just like fashion. That’s the reason why I wouldn’t want to have something permanently inked on me. 🙂 Just a personal preference. Everyone has it’s own opinion.
Paris B says
You’re right, Lingzy, we would have different views on this which makes it very interesting 🙂 I won’t be above a tattoo if it represented something life changing but I don’t forsee that in the near future
Lily says
I don’t have any tattoos, and I have thought about it when I was at Uni… but I just never did it. For one, I’m not a person who is really passionate about something for life (read: fickle!). So, I’d probably regret it later on. However, my husband has one on his arm. It’s a tattoo of the Olympic rings. He got it during one of his Olympics participation as an athlete. For him, it means a lot and it’s something to be proud of.
I think girls with subtle tattoos are pretty sexy though!
Paris B says
I think its cool, what your husband has. I’m sure something like that means a great lot, and is a mark of a great achievement 🙂 I would too, if I had something as significant to commemorate
Sofia says
Not for me. I totally think its fine for other people to have a tattoo, some are very artistic and beautiful. But I sure I don’t want to go through the pain, and I’m sure I would get bored of it after a while. Hey its not like makeup that you can try different looks and colours everyday, and I really like trying different colours all the time! 🙂 Also if I ever get to old age, it probably would look ridiculous…
Paris B says
Haha boredom seems to be the biggest reason why people don’t want tattoos. As you say, it’s not quite like makeup. We can’t just wipe it off and start again!
Catherine says
I still want a tattoo. I am VERY sensitive to pain so it scares me a little. I dont have anything against them.
Paris B says
I think if you really want one, you should. From what people say, it isn’t that painful 😉
Jess says
Hahaha I really did think it was a tattoo at first glance!
I’m actually a yay on this, I love how some tattoos look and want one myself. Except I really can’t decide on what I want to get! Doesn’t bode well for something that’s permanent lol
Paris B says
Exactly, Jess! I can’t imagine wanting any inning that will stay only skin for life so even if I were keen on getting one, I won’t be sure what I’d want. Imagine if I hated it after a while 😛
Jesz says
Brow embroidery if you count it as ‘tattoo’…haha.
I always wanted to tattoo something small & cute (arm/ankle/back of neck) but never got the courage to do it with the question in my mind – “what if I don’t like it anymore?”. It take far more pain to remove than to ink them on your skin + scarring. However, I do enjoy looking at other’s cute little tattoo (not the horror big one like skeleton etc.) 😛
Paris B says
Haha I never thought about brow embroidery or brow tattoos lol! I don’t subscribe to them either. Imagine if they got the shape wrong! 😛
espenine says
Thanks but no thanks, as I already have enough ‘tattoos’ – aka acne marks and hyperpigmentation! I just want smooth, clean and clear skin, no matter which part of my body. 🙂
Paris B says
Amen, sister! Those tattoos are just as painful to get rid of 🙁
Holly says
will not consider getting one cuz it is not my cup of tea. i see so many stylish people (no offence, seriously!) getting these dainty tattoos (usually a small heart or the line drawing of some simple shapes like star ) on hands, as if they marked them with a ball pen. I am not sure if this is the trend right now. but i feel like if you have a reason behind it, it is your personal choice.
Paris B says
Indeed, tattoos are very personal things and shouldn’t be done lightly. I have seen some very elegant ones but I think that too many tattoos can look rather unsightly if not properly done 🙁
eezy says
I have one on the back of my waist (right side) a stylized picture of a sun. Got it when I was studying in Auckland, it was winter, it was raining for ages and the tropical girl in me misses the sun badly…so… Anyway, no regrets as it becomes a part of me and who I am today… I stopped at one though, can’t trust local tattoo artist (snobbish me!)
Paris B says
I’ve seen some new local tattoo artists that are really impressive. Not the backlane ones of course 😉 but that’s a cute idea, getting the sun because you didn’t have it. Now you can carry the sun with you everywhere you go! 🙂
