Body oils. I am a huge huge fan! I can’t bear using body lotions, but am happy to slather on oils because my skin just feels so darned good (and I smell so darned good) thereafter. I presently have 4 bottles by my bedside – a delicious buffet of oils to choose from every night before bed 😀
I recently received one a couple of months ago, from New Zealand brand, Linden Leaves. Locally, they are brought in by a distributor – The Skin Topic – and the counters are available at Pavilion KL and Subang Parade. Now, I’m probably the first one to line up to check out a new brand of body oil, so this was quite exciting for me.
The Linden Leaves Aromatherapy Synergy Body Oil comes in 4 variants – Memories (rose), Absolute Dreams (lavender), In Love Again (orange), Pick Me Up (lemon). What is probably most eye-catching and interesting is that each variant has within it, a flower or fruit representing the key scent.
In the case of Memories, it is a single stalk of a rose bud. This is the 60ml bottle so it fits 1 stalk. From images I see online, the larger 250ml bottle fits a couple more so it doesn’t look so lonely 😛 So, descriptions aside, what you can expect from Memories therefore is a rose scented body oil. We know how tricky rose scents can be, don’t we? Its a risky business, rose scents. So, what can you expect from this one? Good memories? Nightmares? 😛
Well, lets just say that if you like a strong, powdery rose scent then this one will be for you.
The 60ml bottle is pretty small which is a good trial size, or a good size for toting about. The cap is quite tight and its a flip top – the sort you depress at one end to flip up, so the risk of leakage isn’t very high. At RM96/60ml, I however find it pricey for the size.
From a presentation point of view, I think this makes a very nice gift, or even something nice to have on your bedside. However, if you dislike strong rose scents (as I do) then this will remain untouched (as mine is).
The oil itself isn’t bad. The texture is a little thick, but it absorbs well into the skin and makes it feel nice and soft. I do find that its a little more oily than some other body oils I use but it doesn’t bug me because once absorbed, my skin feels very comfortable. I sometimes like that sheen of oil on my skin, because it makes my skin feel lovely the next morning.
However, I found that the rose scent was a little too strong, too powdery and a wee bit too artificial for my tastes. I measure all my rose scented oils by the REN Moroccan Rose Body Oil, which, if you ask me, is one of the highest quality rose oils I’ve ever used. The scent in that one is light and smells of freshly crushed rose petals which is delightful and makes me happy.
With this one, I found that the only memory it evoked was that of a gift shop – something like Lovely Lace (if you have ever entered one of those gift shops that sell various lace, frilly, decorative items and scented teddy bears, you will know what I mean). Again, it isn’t a scent I like. But those shops have survived through the times so I know there are people out there who like the scent of powdery roses, and if so, you will like this one.
Suffice to say therefore, that I’m torn about this one. The oil itself is lovely, but the scent does not suit my tastes. So, I rarely reach for it as the enveloping scent of powdery rose isn’t one I prefer to fall asleep to. Pity about that! Maybe I’d have better luck with the lavender option (Xin has a review of it here but from her description of the scent – similarly artificial smelling, I may just have to pass)
In a nutshell
Linden Leaves is a skincare and bath and body brand from New Zealand. The products are primarily botanical based and one of their popular items is the Aromatherapy Synergy Body Oils which come in 4 variants. The one I’ve tried is Memories, which is rose scented. The body oil is nice and moisturising to the skin and if you have dry skin or are exposed to drying elements like air-conditioning or heating, it does a very good job at keeping the skin soft and moisturised. I however, found the rose scent too strong and powdery for my tastes. I prefer a scent of freshly crushed rose, as opposed to the heady scent of a rose in full bloom. Matter of personal tastes 🙂
Pros: Oil is good quality and makes skin feel soft, moisturised and comfortable, Pretty packaging
Cons: Pricey, Rose scent is too strong and heavy for my tastes
Who will like this: Anyone who likes body oils and likes stronger, heavier rose scents
Here is the ingredient list for the body oil.
Like Xin, I noticed that the oils used are good quality and very nice, moisturising oils – sweet almond oil, apricot kernal oil and avocado oil are lovely on skin. However, there is no rose essential oil included in the ingredients and instead there is parfum, to which I attribute the stronger, heavier rose scent. So, that part of it, I’m not enamoured with.
Have you tried anything by Linden Leaves? Do you prefer the light fresh rose scents or the heavier scents?
This is my first time trying something from the brand and whilst it wasn’t much of a success, I can’t rule out never trying anything else from them again. I’m also reminded of the other body oils I have by my bedside and I have to tell you about them. Stuff I use nightly to keep the scaly dry skin at bay (and I love them!) 😀

The rose stalk in the looks lovely! 😀
I like the “Lovely Lace” rose scent only if its a room fragrance – it reminds me of home for some reason 🙂 I can’t stand it on myself though so i think i won’t be checking this one out anytime soon!
Paris B says
Packaging wise, this is one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. Honestly, how many brands do you know stick flowers into their oils? 😀 The only time I’ve seen this done is in the kitchen with infused olive oils! HAHA 😀 I can’t walk into Lovely Lace or I’d walk out with a headache. I actually take pains to avoid walking past it! Can’t handle the scent 🙁
Jenn says
Ya i know right! I was thinking floral tea when I see this one! So pretty! 😀
Ok looks like I’m the only one who likes the Lovely Lace scent… I’ll remember to put that home fragrance away if you guys drop by my place! 😀
Paris B says
Hahahaa! That must happen soon, mustn’t it? The visit I mean, not the Lovely Lace hehe
xin says
i can’t stand the lovely lace shop. if i can, i make a detour; otherwise i just hold my breath and speed off.
to think about it, maybe i should tried adding lavender essential oil into it, not sure if it can mask the perfume or not though. i’d really much prefer a scentless or light scented body oil if it doesn’t smell so good, i can at least still salvage it by adding my own essential oil
Paris B says
You could try and see if the essential oil will help. I hope I’m not reading the ingredient list wrongly but it’s a bit odd that they didn’t include any.
Applegal says
I tried these oils too, when they first opened in Pavillion! I walked away empty handed because my hubby said the scent of the oils remind him of dish washing liquid or other household cleaning solutions -__-;;
Paris B says
Hahahaa oh dear I’m so sorry for laughing! Was it a lemon scent by any chance? I find that lemony scents are very dangerous. There’s always that threat of smelling like dish washing liquid 😛
Applegal says
Yes it was the lemon scent! But he didn’t like the other scents either! 😛
Paris B says
Money saved! Onto your next target hehe… Only fair since he’ll have to smell it too LOL!
Ting says
Arrrgggh! I’m on the same page as you, Applegal. All my creams and lotions have to be husband-approved because he has a super sharp nose. Lately it has extended to my shampoos…!! Very annoying! But speaking of lovely lace… Yuck! Even thinking about the scent makes me dizzy and I am usually one with a ‘slow’ nose… 🙁
beetrice says
Gorgeous packaging, but I can’t bring myself to like rose scents…Lovely Lace is not a smell I’d want full-on (considering how overpowering they are – you KNOW there’s a LL within 50 feet even if you can’t see it!).
I think I need to take a whiff of the lavender one Xin wrote about… but if they made a grapefruit one with citrus slices in it…SOLD! 😛
Paris B says
Yes! It’s all that pot pouring they hoard in there I’m sure 😛 I think there’s a citrus one but I don’t know what it smells like.
Apple says
compare to strong scented teddy bear ( totally dislike), i have no problem with strong scented body oil.Normally i apply and massage it before sleep and the lovely smell definitely make me have a good dream. Too bad it is quite pricey.if 60ml can last me for more than 3 mth then it is a bit worth of money. Not sure whether it is suitable for baby skin too?
Paris B says
I wouldn’t use these on baby skin unless it is stated somewhere that its safe for babies. I think 60ml can last a while to be honest. You don’t have to use a lot each time. Only reason I mentioned its pricey is because the other oils I’m using aren’t as pricey and are also pretty good stuff & contain essential oils 🙂
Tracy says
Awww, it weird that they wouldn’t use rose oil in there. I’m not a fan of powdery rose either-it’s so cloying! Why wouldn’t they go for young, fresh, modern rose? I wish companies would realize that fact!
Paris B says
Perhaps they can’t create the scent of fresh young roses chemically? 😉 just a thought but I agree. I wish there are more light rose scents around and fewer strong heavy musky rose. Smells old fashioned.
LeGeeque says
I think I’m definitely a lavender sort of girl. Would love to try that!
When it comes to scents, light and citrusy scents for summer and heavier, leathery ones for winter to cocoon me in warmth
Paris B says
I love lavender too and usually go for that if I had a choice. That said, I’m also picky about lavender because I prefer the smell of crushed lavender, not musky powdery lavender. So picky! 😀
MisSmall says
The packaging is lovely, no doubt. It boggles me that the company didn’t use essential oils in their products instead of parfum since the products are supposedly “aromatherapy” body oils. Powdery heavy artificial rose scent is definitely a no no for me, so I guess I’ll pass on this one. 😐
Paris B says
My thoughts exactly, MisSmall! I am not sure why parfum is in there. I tried to see if the parfum had a note to say it was from essential oils or flowers but it doesn’t say so. Wild have been perfect if it was a lighter more natural scent. The packaging is so gorgeous!
Issa says
the rose stalk looks cute. packaging is nice. i prefer light scents for body oils 🙂 I’m finally back from vacation mode. Happy New Year PB! 🙂
Paris B says
Welcome back to reality, Issa! Hehe… Hope you had a nice break!
Marina(Makeup4all) says
I actually have a 250ml bottle or the rose scene (I love rose & the scent of this products and use it a lot) and sample bottles of all other scents and adore them all. I also have a scrub from the brand, the scent is very strong but I like it.
Paris B says
Hi Marina! It’s great to know this one works for you. I like the quality of the oil but less so the scent. That’s the tricky thing about scents right? You just can’t tell how different people will perceive it!
Alfie says
Hi Paris! I just would like to ask how to use body oil? I mean on which part of the body people normally lather themselves with body oil? Is it all over the body or just specific parts of your body? Thanks!
Paris B says
Hi Alfie, you’d use body oil the same way you’d use a body lotion, just in place of lotion 🙂 I usually use it on my arms and legs.
Fizz says
I love rose body oils for the day time and lavender for the night. I like the fact that this one has a rose stalk in its bottle! But when you say it’s too strong and reminds you of Lovely Lace, I get a bit turned off there… Wouldn’t want to reek of it… :S
As for lavender, is your fav the DollyMoo one or have you discovered something else better?
Paris B says
I have 3 lavender oils I’m rotating – Dollymoo (which I love and am almost finished with! sob sob), Weleda (Its not bad) and Pangea Organics (again not bad). Of the 3, I find the DollyMoo has the nicest scent but the other 2 aren’t bad although lighter. I’m not sure where they can be found locally but I got mine off iherb.com 🙂
Lisa says
Oooh I love oils. But think I will give this a pass. Don’t quite like synthetic smelling oil. My latest love is the caudalie divine oil. It is really divine. And comes in a glass spray bottle with a wooden cap. The spray itself is nice as the mist is fine and even.
Scent wise, it’s addictive and grows on me.
Paris B says
I was recently introduced to the Caudalie Divine Oil and it smells pretty amazing! I wasn’t sure about getting it because its a dry oil and I don’t quite like dry oils usually but we’ll see. I’ll go take another sniff 😀
Swati says
even I don’t like powdery and strong scents!! and, I really doubt if actual rose oil is so strong.
Paris B says
Actual rose scent based on what I smell is lovely and fresh 😀 I think its how they make it in a lab that turns it powdery
Eve says
Paris , we r definitely the same when it comes to lovely lace , I tend to avoid it at all cost too lol . Btw I m not into lotions too as I think it’s way easier to apply oil and smells so good too . Question is beside the Weleda oil and Pangea , what other oil r u using ? Cld u suggest more pls as I’m new to oil and simply do not know where to start . Tq tq 🙂
Paris B says
Hi Eve, you can view my other posts on body oils here https://www.mywomenstuff.com/tag/body-oil/ I may be fickle, but I do stay quite loyal to using body oils because I don’t want them to spoil 🙂 I am also using Antipodes Heavenly Oil and REN Moroccan Rose in addition to the Weleda and Pangea Organics 🙂
Eve says
Thanks Paris for the fast reply . My wallet is screaming No everytime I read ur blog , I have already purchased the Welada Oil , Yves Rocher , Clarins , and others you mention. , why oh why u so bad lol .
