Your Say: What is your favourite NON-Beauty item of 2012?

December 26, 2012 Paris B 76 Comments

wood floor

We have some traditions here at MWS that have become so over the past couple of years, especially around this time of year, when we take time off to reflect on the year that has gone by. Incidentally, Isn’t it great that the world did not end on 21 December 2012 as people have been saying? I think it would have been disastrous LOL!

Anyway one of the “traditions” is in stepping outside of the beauty niche for a moment to consider what our favourite NON-beauty purchase or item of the year has been.

Mine is above. Something much too large to fit in one frame. It may not be what you think it is 😉

merry christmas 2012

Merry Christmas everyone!

If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you’re spending a lovely time with your family, or if not, at least with good friends and having a great time. For the rest of us, hey, its a mid-week break and a short work week for the final week of 2012 is always welcome! 😀

For those of you who haven’t come by the blog in a while, perhaps I might entice you with a little visit, for this was a gift I got for myself this year. A new blog header, logo and outfit 🙂

Have a sweet tooth? Indulge without the kilos in the Miss Candy L’Oreal Infallible Color Eyeshadows

December 24, 2012 Paris B 40 Comments

Here’s an announcement for the ladies in Malaysia – We finally have some L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows! 😀

I remember when these first came out. I was champing at the bit to get my hands on them, but they were nowhere to be seen locally, or even regionally at the time. I eventually got a motherlode thanks to a very lovely and generous friend from Canada, and I told you about them months ago (review here). Later in the year, another very generous friend sent me more, simply because she saw them in her local Priceline store in Australia and knew I was crazy about them! Ah those were some gorgeous shades that I never got around to reviewing, because I wasn’t sure if they were still available.

A few new colors came out a little while ago under the Miss Candy collection in Europe which I tried to get hold of, but couldn’t. I later picked up 2 colours through a friend in Singapore. What this longwinded tale is about is to say that HURRAH! Everyone in Malaysia now gets to know what I’m talking about and raving over! 😀

L’Oreal did not make too much fuss about this Miss Candy collection but if you head down to the counters you will see it. Just a small little collection with some light coloured glosses, and 3 L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows in Sassy Marshmallow, Naughty Strawberry and Tender Caramel. I got some reports about the appearance of these thanks to lovely readers on Twitter a while ago but I did not have the chance to check it out till recently. When I did, I picked up Tender Caramel to complete my Miss Candy collection!

Locally, the Infallible shadows in the Miss Candy collection are Sassy Marshmallow, Naughty Strawberry and Tender Caramel. When the collection was launched in Europe, it was Sassy Marshmallow, Naughty Strawberry and Innocent Turquoise. I’m not sure why ours was substituted with Tender Caramel but I believe it might be to do with preferences of local women. Tender Caramel is a very gorgeous, very wearable eye colour and one that will appeal to most. Innocent Turquoise (which I incidentally own) is less likely to fly off the shelves.

So psychology aside, lets take a look at some swatches, some thoughts and a very quick look I did with the scariest colour of the lot – Naughty Strawberry a fuchsia pink. Boy, that stumped me for a bit! Its not a colour I’d voluntarily pick up (it was sent to me) but I was pleased to be able to get it to work 🙂

Have you already seen these and picked up any? What’s your take on them?

Bag Lust: Proenza Schouler PS11 Classic Leather Shoulder Bag

December 23, 2012 Paris B 48 Comments

I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed a slow return of shoulder bags. What I mean by these are the bags with long straps with no top handle, that hit somewhere around the waist or hip. In the past few years, I’ve been seeing more totes or large bags take prominence. But now, it looks like we’re finally seeing the medium – smaller bags make a comeback.

I sometimes carry with me everything including the kitchen sink but I’m weaning myself off that habit. Its terrible for my back and my larger, heavier bags rarely see the light of day anymore.

So this year, while I was on a bag ban, I observed my bag use and realised I preferred something medium sized, preferably something that can be slung on the shoulder or a shoulder/handcarry combination. And for some insane reason, I was drawn to this one.

The Proenza Schouler PS11 Classic (I believe 11 means it came out in 2011) really grabs me, especially in a lovely bright colour like this blue calf leather one.

I first came across the Proenza Schouler bags with their PS1 satchel that for some reason, seems to be really popular. Perhaps its the satchel trend, but I never quite got into it. I had the opportunity to view it and feel it once and it just felt to thick and too heavy for my tastes. Just speaking for myself of course 🙂 But the PS11 is something that appeals more to me.
