Sometimes, I am surprised at just how impressively effective some skincare is. And then I take a look at the diminutive price tag and I’m surprised once again! A little while ago, I introduced you to the newly launched Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal skincare range. There is a whole range of products from cleansing all the way to serum and moisturiser, and I’ve already told you that the face wash is a very good budget buy. But I wanted to focus on the 2 items in the range that I particularly like, that worked for me and which I’m on the way to finishing up. Yes, you read that right – gasp! I know 😛
These two items are the Hydra Vegetal Moisture Boost Concentrate and Hydra Vegetal 24H Intense Hydrating Gel Cream. As you can see, I’m about halfway through them both and its been about 1.5 months of use so far.
I started using these because my skin was giving me grief despite all my ministrations and feeling and looking very dull and dry. Truth be told, I wasn’t terribly sold on the brand because I’d never used them before and I wasn’t sure what to expect. Its helpful therefore to have a trusted view from this review from Tracy who raved about this range helping her skin all the way in the Great White North. So hey, I had to see how it fares here in the hot humid Tropics!
Incidentally, very well. Without mincing words, just a few days of use helped my skin rebalance itself and rehydrate and I was sold. Have you come across this range yet?
Hydra Vegetal Moisture Boost Concentrate – RM99/30ml
This is the “serum” which Yves Rocher says is the star of the Hydra Vegetal range. It is light in texture and on skin without any sticky feel. I do find it a bit thicker than some other serums I’ve tried, but its not unpleasant at all. The hydrating effect is, as promised, almost feels immediate. I was facing dry dull skin at this time, and in just a few days, using this concentrate paired with the gel cream, I could visibly see my skin looking much better. It didn’t quite look more radiant, but it definitely lost the dry-as-a-husk look, and felt much smoother to the touch.
You are recommended to use a moisturiser over the concentrate to “seal in” the goodness but I reckon that if you feel that its sufficient for your skin, especially if you have oily skin then this alone maybe enough. I usually use 1 to 2 pumps of product depending on the condition of my skin and I use it morning and evening. Well, I did for the past 1.5 months but I’m switching out stuff for my evening routine again so this is now for morning use only and I like that because my skin feels lovely all day long, even though I’m in an air-conditioned office all day.
So yes, I’m suitably impressed by this one!
Here is the ingredient list if you’re interested.
Hydra Vegetal 24H Intense Hydrating Gel Cream – RM59/50ml
The gel cream is more cream than gel and is meant for those with normal to combination skin. What it means is that its light enough for those skin types. I believe there is one that is more intense for dry skin which isn’t available in our market. I initially thought this wouldn’t be sufficient for my slightly dry skin but to my surprise, it is.
The texture is light and spreads easily and absorbs into skin quite quickly. I do find that it may take a little while to absorb so some people may not like that, but I don’t mind it because when it does, my skin feels absolutely lovely. Like the Concentrate, it seems to go to work almost immediately to hydrate my skin and this combination of product were, I believe, instrumental for getting my skin back on balance at the time I started out on them.
I’ve been on them for over a month and I can safely say that my skin likes it. It makes my skin feel hydrated all day and I don’t see or experience the dryness I sometimes get. I don’t find it thick and some evenings, I apply a slightly thicker layer on because I sleep in an air-conditioned room.
Here is the ingredient list for the gel cream if you’re interested.
A picture is worth a thousand words so this should give you an idea of what I mean by the textures of the products 🙂 The gel cream is a light cream but definitely less of a gel texture than we’re used to. And the serum is a little thicker than what you may be used to too. Used together, I think they work a treat for skin that needs that boost of hydration and it doesn’t break the bank! 😀
Left: Moisture Boost Concentrate Right: 24H Intense Hydrating Gel Cream
In a nutshell
The Hydra Vegetal range is new to Yves Rocher and is targeted at hydration. I’ve tried most of the products in the range but my 2 favourites are the Moisture Boost Concentrate and the 24H Instense Hydrating Gel Cream used together. I tried these when my skin was flaky in parts and feeling and looking dry and dull and I believe it was instrumental in helping things get back on kilter. I have been using it for over 1.5 months day and night and am not only using it in the day because it makes my skin feel good and look better. I suppose you could say I’m suitably impressed that this worked so well considering I’d never tried anything from YR before this!
Pros: Affordable, Light textured products suit normal to combination skin types, Goes to work almost immediately to boost skin hydration
Cons: Has a very “green” scent that is quite strong
Who will like this: Anyone who wants a wallet friendly hydrating range of skincare that works
I will note that the scent may not be very pleasing to everyone. I find it smells very “green” like cucumber, and its quite strong. I’ve gotten used to it so it doesn’t bug me so much but I have to note it because not everyone may like it.
Has anyone tried anything from this range yet? Have you found a Yves Rocher store near you?
As I have noted, I have tried most of the other products but barring the face wash and these 2 products, I don’t think much of the cleansing milk or the toner. I happened to stop by the YR store in Fahrenheit 88 a couple of weeks ago and they had this range on 10% off. The Gel Cream was sold out though. Apparently its been flying off the shelves! So I suppose people here do like it after all 🙂

I’m using the gel-cream too! In my combination skin the cream isn’t heavy but makes my T-zone very shiny, however I like it because makes my dehydrated T-zone and my dry cheeks look hydrated and plumped. (I’ll be reviewing it soon 😉 )
Paris B says
Hi Efrain, its great to know the gel cream works for you too! 😀 Sorry to hear the cream makes your T-Zone looks shiny, but I agree, it works very well for slightly dehydrated skin. Plumps them up nicely and its affordable too! 😀
Juanneth says
I was really intrigued to try it when I saw this at your page and 20% off spares me from waiting so I bought 2 bottles of concentrates (lucky me,this is my birthday month so additional 5% off). My super sensitive skin really loves it, especially when I apply it over my regular serum which it can be a bit drying when used alone and I can see major improvements – no more dull skin, less red, smoother skin (I always get fluid filled tiny bumps for no particular reason) and plumped. My brother who has dry flaky skin especially around his mouth also has improved on this drastically. Too bad the gel cream was sold out at that moment, I really want to try it too!
P/S: Elixer 7.9 also sounds good to me. Oh,no…
Juanneth says
Opsssss, typo, it is Elixir 7.9 Youth Intensifier. Im going to get it today, hopefully something will prevent me from buying, YR, please restock your RM59 gel cream 😀
Paris B says
Waah you got a really good discount! 😀 I’m very happy to know that this range works for you Juanneth. I do think the serum is quite something because I actually saw and felt the benefits myself too. I’m usually quite sceptical about new brands or, to be honest, affordably priced items because they sometimes don’t work but this one has been a happy surprise 🙂 I had read that the Elixir 7.9 is good but I’d better wait till I finish up something first hehe…
Lily says
I saw this brand at Singapore local pharmacies. I was tempted, but I have too much skincare to try at the moment. Will definitely keep this in mind though 🙂
Paris B says
Oh didn’t realise YR was sold in pharmacies in Singapore! I hear ya on the numerous skincare. My dresser is presently overflowing LOL!
Ksuan says
Hi Lily! Which pharmacies did you see this at? I have been hunting all over!
Victoria says
When you said that your skin is dry, how do you define it and do you know the cause of the dryness? The products look pretty interesting and affordable too but since I still have much skincare left I will give this a pass.
Paris B says
How I know my skin is dry is mostly through how I feel and how it looks. When it is dehydrated or dry I feel that its tight and looks dull and lines look more obvious. Plumped up hydrated skin usually looks smoother and more radiant. As for the cause, it could be anything from hormones to insufficient water intake or the weather 🙂 I never know when my skin may turn, but I do know when a skincare doesn’t work for me or when it does. Comes with paying attention to my skin 🙂
Effa Haniza says
Hi PB! How would you compare this to Laneige Water Bank essence and the cream? I have tried them in trial pack size. Your posts made me want to try them and I sure hope it performs better than Laneige.
Paris B says
Hi Effa, you posed an excellent question! 😉 I was going to compare it at some point hehe… I’d say they are quite comparable… except for the price tag! 😀
Tracy says
Yay!!! Thanks for the link Paris! <3
I'm almost finished my cream actually. I've stopped using it on and off again to test out other products but I keep going back to this stuff. It works so well for me too!
Paris B says
Most welcome Tracy! Now we know that this works on skin in the Great White North and in the Hot Humid Tropics! 😀 I’ve been happy with it, and once I finish it, I know I will stray but I have a feeling I might return to the serum at some point 😉
Evan Chang says
Interesting, I’m thinking to try out their cosmetic range as well
Paris B says
I took a look at some of the cosmetics while I was in the store and I know their eyeshadows get some raves. But I didn’t find it interesting enough. They’re on sale now I believe so its worth taking a look 🙂
Cas says
It’s a French brand and I got to step into their outlet when I went to Paris last year – it’s quite cheap over there and you can get good deals. I have yet to try their skincare but their shower gels are pretty decent and could probably give Bodyshop a run for their money. After reading yr review, I guess i should pay them a visit soon 🙂
Paris B says
I saw some of the deals online for Europe and damn! I want! LOL! If I ever step foot there I guess I’ll go a little nuts 😀 I picked up a bottle of shower gel for fun because it was onl RM19 and I remember everyone saying their shower gels are nice. Will give that a go soon 😀
Jesz says
Tried their hand cream some years back, quite a value product & wallet friendly. Back then there were discounts available for members almost every month, not sure about now.
Will give this a pass since I have way too many skincare to finished up! lol
Paris B says
I think there are discounts too. They were trying to make me sign up but I didn’t because all I was picking up was a bottle of shower gel LOL!
lisa says
i’ve tried some products from this brand more than 12 years ago. They used to have a store in Centerpoint Orchard back then. But since, have left the singapore market. Is this easily available in Malaysia? I find the products overall quite worth taking a look and i quite like the scents in their products. I much prefer this brand to say…Bodyshop. They have a range of makeup too. Some of my early days eyeshadows are from this brand.
Paris B says
I know of 2 major malls which have Yves Rocher stores locally – Fahrenheit 88 in KL City and 1 Utama outside of KL. The other stores are located in smaller neighbourhood malls so whether its easily available will depend largely on the mall closest to you here 🙂 Are they still available in Singapore? A reader mentioned seeing it in pharmacies. Its a standalone store here. I read a lot of raves for the YR eyeshadows but they didn’t quite attract me for some reason. I saw some nice stuff available overseas which I don’t think they brought in for the Christmas collection but I will have to take a second look. Like you, I did think they are similar to The Body Shop too – just more affordable 😀
Janice says
Hello, they have it at Subang Parade and Sunway Pyramid too. They do provide facial services too. =)
Jess says
I used to buy their products from Singapore when they dont have a store here, and I think 7-8 years back.. their first store is in Times Square… and stop buying after some of their range discontinued! Well I was kinda impressed with this range too when a friend gave me somea smple to use and I quite like their Hydrating Cleansing Milk and went to buy it 😀 For an botanical range, their price is pretty affordable !
Paris B says
LOL Looks like its only me who isn’t too familiar with the brand! 😀 Oh the Hydrating Cleansing Milk isn’t bad too, just that I don’t really use it much. I love their pricetag though. So affordable and yet so effective. Doesn’t get better than that!
SharonC says
This looks interesting (the serum, I mean).
How does it compare to Laneige’s Water Bank Essence? LOL Feeling the itch to want to buy a bottle of the serum to try as it’s only RM59 which is half the price of Laneige!
Must-Stop-Self from buy!!!!!!! Glad it worked out for you!
Paris B says
Hi Sharon, the serum is actually RM99 🙂 Not that expensive for something that works and still a little cheaper than Laneige 🙂 Another reader has asked the same question and as I told her, I will be comparing them soon. I do feel they are quite comparable to be perfectly honest. 😉
Jo says
Finally a review! 🙂 I’m loving the serum and cleanser – almost done with the cleanser. Really love the light texture and the fresh cucumber scent – I don’t find it strong at all. Will be trying the gel cream next! The affordable pricing is such a bonus! Their creams are quite lovely too. Got my stash from their outlet in Sunway Pyramid.
Paris B says
Yes! LOL Took my time didn’t I? 😉 Happy to know that the line works for you too! I must confess I was surprised because of the pricetag, but hey, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth eh? 😉
xin says
i wonder if it will work for my current desert dry skin, it’s a really a jinx, when my skin is dry, the pores and fine lines appear to be more obvious 🙁
Paris B says
Yep, that’s the downfall of dry skin 🙁
Sze Ling says
Sold! I’m going to hunt down that serum. Almost done with my current hydrating serum, which is kindda meh… Too bad there’s no outlet here in Penang. 🙁
Don’t you think it’s good to always have a hydrating serum on your vanity, you’d never know when you’d need that extra boost. 😉 Well, at least that’s what I have been doing for the past couple of years. 😀
Paris B says
Hmm… it does look like its only available in selected parts of the country for now. Hopefully they make their way to Penang soon but if you are down in KL, head to their store in Fahrenheit 88. Its quite a well stocked one 🙂 Like you, I always have a hydrating serum on standby at all times! I either mix it or layer with other serums I’m using or use it on its own and yes, it gives my skin all the boosts it needs! Good practice 😀
Marla says
This looks very nice. Will have to take a look.
Paris B says
Do, Marla 🙂 Do you have a Yves Rocher store near you?
wombiekhoo says
I am in penang too … where can I find these?my skin had been sooo dry lately, all the fine lines, yet sensitive and oily… ohhhh horrible combination! Been looking for a workable formula… so wanna try it now… but where to buy?
Paris B says
I did a search but it appears there’s no Yves Rocher store in Penang for now. The Laneige Water Bank Essence isn’t bad for hydration but it is of course more pricey.
Callie says
Wow… These help… My face condition isn’t very guai (cantonese) these days… Pimples here and there, dry surface. It’s just not as good as I would like it to be. I’m going to check if our local stores carry these later! Thanks for the entry!
Paris B says
You’re welcome Callie. Someone reported seeing these in pharmacies in Singapore but I’m not sure which. I find that sometimes, when my skin is too dry or dehydrated, I break out more too, and drenching my skin in hydration is what will help it best. Good luck!
stephy says
My Clinique moisture surge is running out. Am going to give this YR gel cream a try!
Hope it is good then i’ll get to save more money. =P
Narinn B says
Hello, i live at Kuala lumpur..does anyone know where about over here is Yves Rocher store available?
Paris B says
Yep, as per the post, Fahrenheit 88 has a store.
