One of the quieter, more understated Winter/Christmas collections is the one from Laura Mercier. Amidst the glitz and sparkles of the larger cosmetics brands, Laura Mercier quietly enters the room bringing with her beautiful red lips and a touch of elegant metallic shine on eyelids, drawing inspiration from the Art Deco period in the 1920s. The collection is small, compact and incredibly alluring to me.
I think its the bright red lipstick 🙂

Illuminating Eye Colours Gilded Bronze and Gilded Platinum
Or maybe its the new Illuminating Eye Colours. These single eyeshadows with a lovely quilted surface have a luminous pearly finish that is at once smooth on skin yet gives off a beautiful metallic shine that gilds the lids with colour. I was immediately drawn to them like a magpie, and they go on so lovely on skin. I do have one of these so I will be able to tell you about it in greater depth soon 🙂
Here are the other 2 colours of the Illuminating Eye Colours – Gilded Moonlight (metallic gold) and Gilded Rosegold (metallic rose gold).

The Lip Lacquer in Lacque Rouge is also new. What it is, is a high pigment light coverage liquid lipstick that applies on lips with high glossy shine like a lacquer. It comes in only one colour and this is seriously pigmented! I was quite drawn to it, and if you remember the tips for wearing red lipstick by Laura Mercier global makeup artist Michael Coulombe that I shared a while ago, he uses the lip lacquer over lipstick for a bright, opaque, glossy evening lipstick. It is beautiful! I’m thinking of picking it up.

Laura Mercier : Tamara Rouge and Deco Rouge
There are 3 Creme Smooth Lip Colours in the Art Deco Muse collection. Two are a bright solid creamy red while the third is a, perhaps more wearable rose. The ones that caught my eye were naturally the two reds – Deco Rouge and Tamara Red. They swatch an opaque creamy red that is at once elegant eye catching. I however found the texture a little dry and not as creamy as I’d like it to be.
Here are some swatches I took at the counter, to show you what they look like.

Top: Illuminating Eye Colour L-R: Gilded Moonlight, Gilded Rose Gold, Gilded Bronze and Gilded Platinum
Bottom L-R: Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Deco Rouge and Tamara Rouge and Lip Lacquer in Lacque Rouge
My favourite of the eye colours is Gilded Bronze which isn’t bronzy at all but a very lovely metallic grey-brown taupe that happens to be a colour I really like. The next favourite would have to be Gilded Platinum.
Of the lip colours, as I said, I found the cream lipsticks a bit dry going on although I did not test it on my lips so I can’t say for sure how they feel. I haven’t tried Laura Mercier lipsticks yet, so I don’t know how they usually fare. If you wear them and you know, please share so I can decide if I might like to pick up one of them.
You can see from that little dab of colour, that the Lacque Rouge is seriously pigmented stuff. Perfect in keeping with the theme of strong pigmented liquid lipsticks that we have been seeing released from other major brands – Guerlain and Shiseido, just to name 2. This one however, is limited edition, as with the rest of the items featured here.

Does the Laura Mercier Art Deco Muse collection strike your fancy? Do you like Laura Mercier cosmetics?
I haven’t had a lot of luck with most of the Laura Mercier colour items, but their base makeup has me firmly as a fan – primer, foundation, tinted moisturizer, concealers – all work very well, and I will be telling you about them soon because I really really like them. So be warned when I gush. Colour wise, I haven’t had much luck but who knows how it will change. I like the look of the Art Deco Muse collection, I have my eye on a couple of items and I like the elegance and compactness of it. How about you? 😀

I saw Gilded Bronze on Makeup and Beauty Blog and fell in love instantly! Between this collection and the Artist’s Palette, Laura Mercier has been mad tickling my fancy lately!
Dani, I should. It have gone to see what the Artist’s Palette was! It’s gorgeous! I haven’t had much luck with LM shadows so I’d likely pass but wow! Really good one, and Gilded Bronze had me holding my breath too!
The eyeshadows look lovely. Do you think it would work for age group above 47 yrs? And for day look?
Hi Jessica, I think it depends on what sorts of looks you usually go for and the condition of skin around the eyes. I find that on smooth lids, a touch of shimmer can work, but on lined lids it cam sometimes emphasize lines. It can work as a highlighter for the day but perhaps not or an all over lid shade or it might be a bit too bling. That said, I would probably still rock these when I’m 47 so I’m probably not the best person to ask 😀
Hi Paris B,
Much appreciate your advice. I went to Myer yesterday (i,e – stop being lazy) to check out the Dior sets. You were exactly right… no way, could I handle the bling – bling. The shine was amazing.. ::((
Now I am on a desperate hunt to find something that my creepy old eyes could handle. I need something for day to day look. Not thing dramatic.. simple and professional look.
Perhaps, I should start looking for an eye primer?? I have sensitive and dehydrated skin. Too chicken to try something new unless it is highly recommended.
Cheers and many thanks for your help::))
Oh yes, the Dior Christmas palette is ,uh too shimmery for everyday. Did you check the regular palette instead in Night Golds or Fairy Gold? Those are I believe more wearable. I might suggest something matte. Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier have matte shadows that may work, or LM may also have colours that you may like. They do everyday quite well.
They do catch my eye. Never tried the brand to be honest though… But I am curious now that you’ve mentioned the foundations and all 😉
I’ve been happy with the silk crime moisturizer and the concealers. I’d only tried them recently and really like them!
I love their Secret Camouflage. The tinted moisturizer turned orange on me though. I tried some of their eye shadows before, and they’re not too bad. Haven’t really tried much of Laura Mercier products. It’s taking a backseat compared to my curiosity of others 😛
I’m not so sure a out Secret Camouflage because I find it a bit hard, but I love the Undercover Pot concealer for under eye. Really nice! I haven’t paid much attention to LM too mainly because they weren’t very exciting, but this collection really jolted me back 🙂
Love the shadow colors, they’re perfect for a daytime look. So soft and shimmery. I wasn’t a huge fan of the lip shades tho.
The lip shades arent for the faint hearted 🙂 I like the shadows too. A bit bling for day, but hey, I’d wear them in the day! 😉
Ah……that lipgloss is so pretty! Such a nice shade!
I’m eyeing that too so will check it out next week when the collection hits the stores 🙂
The Gilded Platinum looks like a color that I forsee myself using it repeatedly. I think I tried some of their skincare before, but nothing too much to shout about though.
I don’t think they are particularly known for their skincare. Used to hear a lot about their Creme Brûlée body lotions and body washes but I found it too sweet for me.
Me love the Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Primer, foundation as well as the Loose Setting Powder – my Must Have’s daily essentials 😛
Recently bought their Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Peche (I love it as a lip concealer) as well as in Mango (Orangy Pink). Both didnt dry my lips 😛
Also bought the Holiday candle “Tarte au Citron” – Love it to bits!! 😀
Hmmm so the lipstick isnt drying? That’s good to know! I will take another look at it 🙂 and there’s a holiday candle?! Gah! I love candles!
LOL! Yes. The candles are good! One of LM’s signature candle-The Creme Brulee – the scent too sweet for me 😛 The holiday candle which is the Tarte au Citron is good. ‘The fresh fragrance captures the essence of lemon, bergamot, cassis and warm crème fraiche, and blends it with delicious notes of whipped vanilla custard, baked pastry accord and velvety musky woods’- source from LM website 😀
LOL! Do take another stroll at the LM counter for Christmas shopping 😛
I found Creme Brûlée too sweet for my tastes too. I don’t really go for gourmand scents but a light vanilla is nice. The Tarte au Citron candle sounds lovely! Are you trying to make me broke?! >.<
LOL! Just one candle won’t make you broke 😛
But no worries, you may not like it because the Tarte au Citron is also a little sweet, erm, maybe a light vanilla with a hint of lemon 😀
Guess what? I went to check it out but Tarte au Citron was apparently last year’s release so I couldn’t get it 🙁 Didn’t fancy the smell of this year’s candles so will have to see what’s out next year 😀
Har??! 🙁 The LM girls told me that the Tarte au Citron candle is this year’s holiday candle 🙁 So sorry…
No problems! 😀 I don’t need another candle addiction >.<
The eye shadows have me drooling, I hope they are out in Singapore because I am so going to check them out. I won’t be surprised if I pick up 3 of them! 🙂 Paris, you have to try their Caviar Sticks and Metallic cream eye shadows I find them creamy and beautiful. They last well on my oily lids.
Which 3 are you eyeing, Jacqueline? I’m really tempted by the Bronze one 🙂 I have a Caviar Stick but haven’t been terribly impressed by the colour. Maybe I chose the wrong colour 🙁
I really really like Gilded Moonlight, Gilded Rose Gold and Gilded Platinum. I hear they are in Sg now so I’ll go and have a look at them. It is cheaper to buy them online so I’m wondering should I just do that. Then again once I’m at the counters, I lose my sanity and I will have to buy it immediately. Argh! Decisions, decisions.
My caviar stick is in Amethyst. Lovely plummy platinium shade.
I saw Amethyst but opted for the Khaki one. May try it again tomorrow 🙂 oh and maybe you can check them out at the four et to see if you like them then get them online? 😉
Paris, my worse habit is when I decide I want it, I must have it like immediately. I am a instant gratification kinda gal. I may just buy everything at the counter even though I know it is cheaper to get online. I am terrible!
Hmmm that might be a problem hehe… But not terrible. Sometimes, life is too short to not have instant gratification! 😉
I used to use Laura Mercier’s dual vitamin serum. It was very good but I think I got sensitized to it. 🙁
But I love her eye basics (a nice shadow base or just my daily “look” because I just wear mascara and brow products without liner/shadow).
I did swatch some of the base products in Sephora but I think I’ve been spoilted by GA Maestro’s light texture.
Ah I think GA Meastro would spoil anyone! I feels lovely 🙂 I have been told about the eye basics too. Might be worth checking out.
I’m like you-I love their foundations and concealers, but when I get sucked in with their colour items, they just don’t live up to my expectations. I always end up getting rid of that stuff. I do like the Volumizing Mascara though, but that’s not colour really haha.
Haha I really fell hard for one of the palettes from a while back but was less than impressed after using it a while. I think I’m spoilt by some other brands that have better texture. The base stuff are quite impressive though!
I really appreciate Laura Mercier for their more understated but strong collections. For me this collection seems like really thought through, simple yet classy and effective. I can not wait to hear about the liquid lipstick, I’m obsessed with those!
I hope to be able to check out the lip lacquer soon! There are some strong ones out there, it’s interesting to see how this fares 🙂
Oooh… I am so attracted by the Lip Lacquer!!! The eye colours are nice too! I don’t own even a single Laura Mercier product (yet) but have been attracted to this brand lately.
Both are definitely eye catching! I will vouch for the base products but colour has been hit or miss for me. Hope you get to check it out soon! 😉
I love the quilted pattern of the eyeshadows, but I find the colours boring. But the lipgloss are another matter entirely. I love how bright and pigmented the colour is.
Yes, the colours are more understated but the lip products are amazing colours!
Too bad, I just don’t buy too holiday-gold and holiday-red makeup. But I love Laura Mercier a lot. I like the lipgloss and lipsticks from the regular line. Really good.
Taking notes about the lip products. Sounds like I should be taking a look at them soon!
it’s a very nice collection! i like the gilded bronze too! LOVE 🙂
Me too! Can’t wait till its out at the counter 🙂
*sigh* Gilded Rosegold and Gilded Bronze WILL be mine!! 😀
Hurrah! Nice picks! 😀
This is such a beautiful set, I just don’t like gold shades on my lids.
Aww does gold not work on your lids? I thought it should suit most skintones 🙂
I have very large eyes and lighter shades make them look bigger. I guess I’m unusual but I try to make my eyes look smaller. Darker shades on my lids like deep navy, brown, and plum, seem to give the illusion that my eyes are smaller. Gold is beautiful though.
Ahh ok I get it now. And here I am, the opposite trying to make my eyes looks bigger lol!
The primer does nothing for me though. And i detest the smell and feel of it. There are so many good reviews of it out there though. Wanted to like it much but no…
In fact, this was the primer that made me decide that i do not need any more primer in my life. Haven’t been using any for 5 years or so.
After I read your comment,I went and sniffed hard at the primer I have but I didn’t detect a smell. Maybe it’s me. I don’t use primer very much but when I do, I go for one that has similar light textures. Realized I can’t use those thick siliconized ones.
the oil-free primer has some sort of smell but the normal primer has no smell and is more viscous =)
Ah, that would explain it. Mine is the normal one!
I’m SO interested in these eyeshadows! Time to pay the counter a visit!
Have you picked up any? 😉
Not yet! I’ll have to wait till I get a chance to go to Brussels 🙂
Ahh I forgot you weren’t in Brussels! Hope you get there soon (mmm mussels and Flemish stew!!)
Now THAT I do get here really easily LOL
I now have an irrational craving for stew! LOL!
