Sometimes, as Clarins will tell you, 2 is better than 1. Such is the fact in the new Clarins Double Serum with its Hydric + Lipidic (oil and water) system. Each bottle of Clarins Double Serum comes with the two products separated, only to be combined in the “Golden Ratio” with each pump.
This Double Serum is a step up from Clarins’ anti-aging serums (which this is) and has been made to be used by anyone from age 25 and up. The previous incarnation Double Serum Generation 6 was targeted at women in their 40s, which might explain why few of us have come across it yet *ahem*! 😉
Here are some of the previous incarnations of this serum which started out as literally a double serum in two separate bottles, only to be combined in future formulations. They were all targeted at older skins though, until the 2012 version.
The Double Serum targets 5 skin functions – Skin Nutrition (suppleness and tone), Cellular and Skin Oxygenation (radiance and luminosity), Fiber and Skin Regeneration (firmness and elasticity), Fiber and Skin Protection (prevention of fine lines and wrinkles) and Skin Hydration (softness and comfort).
Quite a tall order for just one bottle of serum, wouldn’t you agree? What I do quite like about the serum is the lightness in the texture. Despite it being 1/3 oil based, once mixed with the 2/3 water based part, it is not sticky nor oily at all. It absorbs quickly into skin without making it feel uncomfortable and taut.
Another nice thing is how light and hydrating it felt on skin. I don’t quite like serums that have too silicone a feel, so this one is a nice change. Its light, it feels lovely and with regular use, its supposed to make your skin look better. Who doesn’t want that eh? 😛
I haven’t tried this one out yet, only on my hand so far. Would be interesting to see how it fares won’t it?
There is a new Lifting Line Smoother facial treatment available at Clarins Skin Spas that use the Double Serum and is an anti-aging facial. I tried it and although it felt comfortable product wise, I wasn’t too happy with the therapist so I didn’t quite enjoy it as much as I should. Pity. I was all ready to sign up for a package 😛
There are samples available at Clarins counters I believe if you’d like to pick them up and have a go. Apparently, you are able to see glowy skin right off the bat, as in right the next morning! I haven’t tried it so I don’t know but if I do, you’ll know about it 😉
Does the Double Serum interest you? Have you tried previous incarnations or the anti-aging skincare range from Clarins?
This product does interest me, truth be told. I’m not quite sold on all the claims, but I like the texture of the product. The oil-water combination is very comfortable on skin and if it does do everything it says, why not eh? I could do with some anti-aging 😉

I like the sounds of this one! My skin is flaky and irritated again. 🙁 Fall always does that. This might help it out!
Paris B says
Sorry to hear Fall plays such tricks with your skin, Tracy 🙁 I hope it sorts itself out soon. Not sure if this will help but it does sound tempting, doesn’t it? 😉
Chia Callie says
I’m given samples for this and I’ve yet to try it. There’s just so many products to use already and to add another one? I sometimes wonder if it’s a good idea to pack so many products on the face at any one time. Ha ha… I guess this is the beauty for people having oily complexion. Wrinkles start to surface at a later stage. Please do try and let us know the outcome…
On another note, I was wondering if you possess the Clarisonic Mia.
Paris B says
Haha there are benefits to using oily skin, that’s for sure! I’ll give it a go at some point and see how it goes. I’m all for putting on loads of products if it works lol! I do have the Clarisonic Mia and have used it. Here’s the link to the review 🙂
Sze Ling says
Oh the dilemma… This or ANR? 🙁 How can they make us choose. Evil people. 😛
Yes, I haven’t buy the ANR yet. But I swear it’s currently sitting at #1 on my to-buy list. Just haven’t got to it yet. My next beauty purchase is definitely going to be it. But but, now this! Guess I have to go get some samples to try it out first.
Paris B says
Haha I know! These brands are evil! I am sort of curious now since you mentioned ANR 😉 maybe birthday gift? 😉
Sze Ling says
Enabler! 😛
Went to 2 Clarins counter in Penang, and both ran out of samples. 🙁
Don’t think I’d make the plunge without first trying some samples of it. I’ve wasted money in the past due to not-sampling-first.
Paris B says
Eeps! Yes indeed. Do get a sample first to see how it fares on you – just never know how certain products will react on our skins.
Sze Ling says
I got samples! -happy dance- 😀
Ok, first, I must admit that when I saw how “oily” it looks, I was scared as hell (remember my sad experience with Kiehl’s MRC?). But my curiosity took over, and I tried it anyways. The SA told me that one packet is for one application, and I was shocked by how much product there is in one packet. But there’s just no way to store the remainder. So, the rest goes to my neck and chest. Haha. 😛
I’ve just finish the last of my 5-day sample, and I’m impressed. My face is literally glowing and those dehydration lines on my forehead is definitely softened. Now, the SA gave me a generous sample of the Shaping Facial Lift too. And naughty me incorporated it to my night skincare regime on the 3rd day of my Double Serum trial. I know, bad blogger. I just can’t resist! Now I can’t tell if it’s the serum that’s doing all the goodness or the facial lift. 😛 The SA did tell me that the facial lift serum would boost the effective-ness of Double Serum (kind of like the Dior One Essential?).
I have the sinking feeling that I might just caved and buy both. Oh boy…
How’s your trial of the Double Serum going? Review coming up soon? 😉
Paris B says
Yay for samples and yay for liking the Double Serum! 😀 I’ve been told that the Facial Lift serum is a booster too, but I just found it too much hassle (did they show you the massage you have to do?) even if it does help make the face look smaller 😛 I prefer using One Essential 😉 I haven’t tried the Double Serum yet. I’m feeling really loathe to switch away from my current skincare which is really weird – its never happened to me before! LOL! but maybe soon?
Sze Ling says
Oh yes, they taught me the palm-on-face-pressure thing. I find that process very relaxing, so I don’t mind at all. Haha. 🙂 But I only use the Facial Lift serum at night though. So, no worries about hurry out the door in the morning. 😛
Try it! Maybe you wouldn’t need to do the ANR + MRC combo anymore. 😉 (wahahaha…enabling mode on!)
And I hope I’ve enabled you enough to buy the Kanebo Impress IC brightening make off. LOL.
Paris B says
Haha I’ll definitely be sure to look at the Impress IC when I go for my facial soon! 😉 And I might be able to do away with ANR+MRC? Darn! I have to try this Double Serum now don’t I? 😛
Ann R says
I will add this to my list. I have tried different anti aging products and I have found out the ones that do work and not on me. I am interested in trying this out and see if it will work on my skin too.
Paris B says
It’ll be interesting to find out for sure!
synaebloom says
I’ve got the sample and tried it for 5 days… I’m not really impressed by the sample at all… Yes, it does feel good when the SA tried a tiny bit back on my hand. Not oily and very hydrating on my hand but i reckon is the sample packaging makes the proportion of oil & water quite messed up. I’ll probably get the full size once my Clinique Repair Laser Focus reaching it’s end.
Paris B says
Hmm now that you mention it, the sample sachet wouldn’t make sense would it? Since the pump was supposed to dispense the proper amount, a premixed sachet wouldn’t make sense. But you like the sample enough to get the full size then? 😉
Synaebloom says
Yes, I do like this non oily serum… But I don’t really see any changes by using the 5 days trial sample… Will still try the full sized though to see whether it’s really good. Personally, I think Clinique Repair Laser Focus does better than Clarins, and cheaper too. Clarins is RM280 for 30ml while Clinique is RM320 for 50ml, if i’m not mistaken
Marina(Makeup4all) says
I bet it is amazing, Clarins never disappoints (at least me) when it comes to skincare. I buy a lot of products from the brand, the serum I currently use is actually HydraQuench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase from Clarins, and it is really good!
Paris B says
I know how much you love Clarins 😉 I like the Hydraquench serum too!
Jennifer says
Sounds like a great serum, oil and water, then mixed together. I had wanted to try the sample but have been away for 3 weeks due to work – with the late nights of work, lack of decent meals, hectic traveling and dry air-cond hotel rooms, my face is now a landmine of acne 🙁
I was tempted to try Clarins products but since I have just started on Estee Lauder, I thought I will stay put for a while 🙂
Paris B says
Yikes, work trips are a terrible toll on our skin 🙁 Was this the trip to the US? 🙂 I hope that once things settle back down it’ll all get better again. Some of the items from Clarins are pretty good, that I’ve tried. Others are meh. Just like every brand I guess 🙂
evee says
I’m currently on the sample, and like synaebloom said, the sample packaging kind messed up the portions. i normally get more oil than water.
But, i do get compliments on the second day though. Continue to use it till the weekend, to see if there’s anymore effects next week. Oh, one sample package can actually be used for 2 nights. I’m not trying to skimp on it, but i dont quite like the oily portion that much, so i use it sparingly. 🙂
Paris B says
Hmm you are right, Evee. The sachet probably isn’t a good idea, but it sounds like good stuff so far! 😉
evee says
Hey Paris,
Gotten lots of compliments, on my 3&4th day using it. I’ve been using ANR for awhile too, and stop 1 year ago. But really, the compliments kinda match up to ANR’s effects too.
At RM280 per bottle, now all i need is to know whether it can lasts longer than ANR. A 30ml of ANR can lasts me for 3-4 months..
Paris B says
Thanks for the update Evee and so glad it works for you!
Becca says
This sounds really interesting, but I’ll admit, when I hear “oil” I do get a little scared. 😛
Paris B says
Haha I’m so used to putting oil on my skin now, that I embrace it these days! You’d be surprised, oil does work very well for our skins, even oily ones 😉
Penny Morrow says
I just puchased the Double serum from Clairns, please direct me how to use it . do i mix it with water or does it come premixed in the bottle?
Paris B says
Technically, your counter should be able to help explain it to you. This is a serum so pump it out into your palm and apply to skin as you would any normal skin serum.
