According to Max Factor Lip Art is all the rage and you’ll flip for their new Flipstick lipstick

August 24, 2012 Paris B 24 Comments

Max Factor recently brought in their newest lipstick – Flipstick. The concept is a dual ended lipstick and seems to be something I recall from back in the mists of time. The texture too, as we will see, harkens back to the mists of time.

The idea behind the Flipstick, so we are told is to latch onto the interest generated by lip art in recent times. To be honest, I don’t get lip art – please see this lovely specimen from Makeup Morsels. Yes, its creative but I don’t get it. I like my lipstick to be lipstick i.e. enhancing my overall look. I guess I prefer that someone stares at my lips and think “Wow! Red lips look good!” instead of “Wow! Why does she have crystals on her lips? Will she choke?”

Happily (or maybe unhappily if you were hoping to do some lip art with these Flipsticks) the Max Factor version is just basically a dual ended lipstick with a light colour at one end and a deeper colour at the other. One side is frosty (urgh!) and the other side is creamy. In some of them, both ends are frosty. You can wear them separately or layer one over the other to create a different effect and maybe different colour. That’s the limit of the lip art I’m afraid. But you know what? I don’t like this. I love my lipsticks and these just do not live up to anything that I look for in a lipstick. I’ll tell you why and you can tell me I’m a grinch 🙂 *snap*

Insta-Updates: Clearly Corrective White Out

August 23, 2012 Paris B 20 Comments

kiehl's clearly corrective

I’m starting to incorporate some whitening products back into my skincare and I decided to try the Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Corrector because a) that clear liquid really really intrigues me and b) it smells of lavender!

I do read a lot of good reports from those who have tried it, so I do hope it’ll work for me. Heaven knows, my skin could do with some brightening. I was also interested to note that one of the first products I ever tried from Kiehl’s has undergone a change!

I’m gonna soak up the sun… or maybe not with the Biore UV Aqua Rich sunscreens

August 23, 2012 Paris B 64 Comments

Sunscreens. I love them. Without them, I’d probably look 10 years older *insert cute face* 😛

If the plethora of information out there isn’t enough, let me remind you again – sunscreen is your first step in an anti-aging skincare routine and no one is ever too young to wear sunscreen. They even make baby sunscreen these days and there are prices ranges to suit everyone. Which brings us to 2 sunscreens from Biore.

These 2 sunscreens in the Aqua Rich range were released some time early this year in 2 formula – Aqua Rich Watery Essence and Aqua Rich Watery Cream Whitening. Both sport SPF50+ PA+++ claims which is about as high as they legitimately go for broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Now you know I love my Shiseido Perfect UV Protector sunscreen. I have finished it thanks to my beach holiday and I really like it. However, the price is hefty on the wallet so I was wondering if these two from Biore would be more wallet friendly substitutes. I’ve never tried any Biore ones despite the popularity – these are supposed to be the No. 1 sunscreens in Japan!

When in the Dior Golden Jungle look for the Jungle Panther and their Golden Brown spots

August 22, 2012 Paris B 34 Comments

About a year ago, when Dior came out with the Mitzah Panther eyeshadow palette, I remember the huge fuss everyone made over it because it was very limited in quantity worldwide. It is surely one for the animal print loving ladies 🙂 This year, for their Golden Jungle Fall 2012 collection, Dior has made the panther print more accessible to everyone by putting it in a limited edition palette and pairing it with a lipgloss.

I intentionally left the CSI-like finger print that you see just over the word Dior. Its to show you that a large part of the casing is highly reflective metal, even the cover which houses a large mirror. The whole compact is heavy and you can easily brain someone if you keep it in your handbag – beautiful and lethal – what a combination! 😉

I thought the print was a leopard print initially. It shows you just how much I know about wild animals 😛 The print is what Dior calls their signature Jungle Panther print (Aside: I always thought Panthers were a separate species that were jet black all over but it turns out if you look on that all knowing resource of Wikipedia, that panthers are the deeper coloured relatives of Jaguars and Leopards and in bright light, they have a distinct spotted pattern albeit dark. Now you know!) Despite popular belief the powder half is an eyeshadow trio and not a bronzer.

Reader Catherine has asked me what I thought of this palette vs the Golden Savannah palette. I hope to help you decide 🙂
