What I Wore Vol. 1 : A random sort of What I Wore To Work post

July 29, 2012 Paris B 85 Comments

During the week, I happened to head down to the KLCC area and noticed that there were many tourist buses in the area around the park. Apparently, that is a very good spot for taking the ubiquitous tourist photo of the Petronas Twin Towers because every bus stopped there, disgorged loads of tourists who’d pose and take photos first with their DSLR then their point and shoot camera and then their phone cameras. Every one of them! I was also terribly amused to see almost all the kawaii photo poses in the book, and more that I never knew existed 😛 It was educational.

what i wore to work outfit

I had my camera with me so I decided to take some random shots. There is no real theme to it but since it was a work day and there I was, here’s some random shots of what I wore to work that day.

I’ve learnt one thing. I am terrible at having my photo taken. Stiff as a board LOL!

what i wore to work outfit

Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? Drifting through the wind….

So no, you may not expect to see regular features like this in the near future unless I get it in my head to be random again or there is something I want to show you 🙂

rebecca minkoff morning after mini bag

I’ve been carrying my Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini bag for weeks now. Its lovely and roomy and fits a ton. I actually have my DSLR in there some days and you can’t quite tell. Well, my shoulder can, because its otherwise a very heavy bag. The metal hardware is lovely but makes the bag heavy.

So here’s what I wore to work on this random working day.

Dress: A basic black dress I picked up in Singapore many years ago for about $29

Shoes: Clarks heels bought on sale for about £25

Bracelet: Triple strand of faux pearls with clasp from Sweet Contemplation Accessories

Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini

PB photo

Thanks for reading this maiden attempt at an outfit post. As you can see, I don’t quite stick to a very conventional office dress code unless I absolutely have to, preferring to wear something simple but comfortable and hoping to get away with it most of the time 😉 I’m not the most fashionable person too as you can probably tell LOL! 😀

The photos here are also lesson #1 in why you shouldn’t take photos in the 12-3pm time. See the harsh light? The shadows cast? Next time I attempt something like this (if I ever do), I’ll do it in the evening. I’ll have to steal time off work of course but it’ll be fun 😀

Do you have a very strict dress code at work? Is it all shirts and suits for you, or are you in a relaxed office environment?

I guess I belong in the latter category unless there is something serious on the books, then I make a little more effort to look a little more serious and corporate 😛 Hope your weekend has been a good one!

xx Paris B

I adore this post and the pictures. I think you look polished and professional possibly what your profession dictates? Would love to see more posts like these in the future pleaseeeeeeee 🙂

Guess my work environment is always relaxed. I usually layer a wool sweater over a shirt and pair that with a skirt. I usually run about in ballet flats. But on particularly wet days I would just not bother changing out of my wellies. On days I need to drive to the regional offices, I would even just wear jeans because being stuck in a car for 4 hours or more, I want to be comfortable.

Thank you and I will try my very best to oblige. The worst part about doing these full body shots is a) finding a location and b) getting someone competent enough to take the shot 😛 The latter is harder than I thought – I might have to make more photographer friends LOL! 😉 I am usually relaxed for work too – this was a more “dressed up” day. Ooh Paris–you are so chic! I NEVER wear dresses–but I love the look. I wish I were girlier sometimes 😛 Also am in love with that bag! I need to save my $ and invest in a nice purse. I always splurge on makeup and my clothing and accessories suffer

Thank you Becca! As a student, I never wore dresses either. I practically lived in jeans! Its only been in recent years that I’ve started finding my own fashion style, and finding dresses I can wear comfortably 😀 As for bags, I love them. I’d save for the bag I want and I will splurge, but I really should do something about my wardrobe 😛 Maybe these posts will kick me in the rear so I pay a little more attention 😉

Love the look! It looks like a night look to me, a bright belt (I’m thinking red?) might bring more colour to it. I fell in love with the gold hardware on the bag, but shame that it makes the bag heavy. YES to taking photos in the evening!

Thanks! It could quite easily transition into night, or even for the weekend I will agree 🙂 The bag is a bit heavy partly due to the hardware and partly due to the leather. I was very surprised myself when I first got it but it also teaches me not to carry too much in my bag each time so its good training 😉

looking real polished, Paris! liking the bag and the shoes – used to think Clarks shoes were plain looking but the pair you have on looks pretty 🙂 is it comfortable? i like wearing one-piece outfits too, because i’m too lazy to match tops to bottoms :p

Thanks Germs 🙂 I used to think the same way you did about Clarks but they are looking much better these days, and Clarks shoes are one of the most comfortable for me. I wear this pair practically everyday and its hard to tell but its really on its last legs now and due to be replaced 🙁

I love this maiden outfit post !!! Please make it a weekly post.

I love to wear dresses to work as I find them so versatile. It allows me more time in the mornings when I’m rushing (which is all the time) and if I need to attend meetings, I just put on a jacket and I’m good to go.

I have at least 20++ dresses in my wardrobe and love all of them. I purchased some from ASOS where some were hits others were misses.

Thank you so much for the support Mei Ping! 😀 I can’t promise a weekly post (hard to get photos taken) but I will try to have a similar post about once or twice a month 🙂 I feel the same way about wearing dresses as you do! The only problem is, I can’t recycle them so that means a minimum of 5 dresses for a week LOL! Where do you get your dresses from? I find it hard to buy dresses too – the styles are a bit young or frivolous for me in some stores.

Love the bag; isn’t mini at all, very work appropriate. When I first started working, I adhered to the shirt and skirt/pants ensemble but gradually I’ve switched it up to spaghetti and skirt plus jacket but that isn’t too comfy either. Moreover that requires me to colour coordinate and ensure all three clothing items have been ironed and also means more clothes to wash.

Now I only wear dresses to work. No need to colour coordinate top and bottoms 😛

Thanks Stacey! Yeah the original Morning After Bag was huge (more like a weekend bag) so when the Mini came out I was very pleased 😀 I’ve got a new found appreciation for dresses too! Only problem is in finding nice ones that don’t look too young or frivolous 😛

I miss the dress and skirts sometimes but totally unsafe when you go up the stairs
    *winks*

p/s: That’s in front of the exxon car park isn’t it? I saw loads of them and all these tourist think that it’s a perfectly safe spot to stand around which is true except when there’s cars!

Haha I totally get what you mean about the stairs 😉 As for the location, it was a side road to some of the condos in the KLCC area near the carpark. The tourists go mad there and its a pretty good location to get the towers, but thankfully traffic was quite quiet 😉

I always thy to cheat on dresscode! I am supposed to wear formal everyday.. Instead, I wore blouse+ black jeans almost everyday!
    Reason:
firstly, it is inconvenient to wear dress/skirt in the hospital. Second, I just hate hate hate HATE ironing clothes! I always wash and quickly take te clothes out and hang for drying. There’s lesser wrinkles if u don’t leave them in the washing machine..

    *cough*
    very naughty indeed!

Haha if your black jeans are deep enough to pass scrutiny then by all means, cheat! 😉 Some places are definitely not suitable for dresses or skirts, especially things like pencil skirts. Sometimes getting in and out of the car is a chore! I am terribly lazy with ironing too but the garment steamer helps a lot! 😉

i occasionally get caught with other black jeans…
i am getting more of them definitely! eagle-eyeing the uniqlo sales..
and yes u are right about getting in and out of the car! not to mention too climbing up and down the stairs! i dont know how some juniors came all dressed up…
maybe the take their time up and down by waiting for the SLOWWWWW hospital lifts…

Ah I love Uniqlo 😀 I’m not sure I can fit into their normal jeans (darned hips!) but I’ll be sure to take a look if I see them on sale 😉 I do have a pair (my 1st!) of skinny jeans and they’re from Uniqlo, but its a little stretchy and its got heat tech so its super warm and I melt to death in our weather everytime I wear it. I think I need to travel somewhere cool LOL!

u mean u hips cant get in? but they are very stretchable~~
            i mean, i have big butts… >.< and i fit them well…
just that they are usually a little bit too long so i have to fold them at the end a little…
sly uniqlo puts these at 49.9 at sale and the minimal spending for a free adjustment is above rm50…
and yes they can be a bit warm…
funny but i seem to be able to tolerate my lower limbs being warm but cant stand anything long sleeves HAHAHA

Aww Paris, you look great! Awesome and super love this post 🙂 I frequent fashion blogs a lot for workwear inspiration! But those are usually overseas ones and their dress code might be different from what is acceptable here. I have an almost similar dress too but never wore it to work. My work dress code states no open toes shoes and includes a long list of exception – pedal pushers, fit flops, spaghetti strap etc. Also, since I am based at my client’s office, their policy must must be observed as well. Cardigan is usually my best accomplice at work worn over a simple black dress – haha, I am boring and predictable that way. On Fridays I will usually put on a jersey dress for comfort. I keep a jacket at work slumped over my chair for just in case moments. I try to jazz up my clothes with shoes and my favourite double strand pearls, some eye shadow and lip gloss helps as I’ve recently noticed 🙂

Thank you Jennifer! I don’t read many fashion blogs but when I do they do tend to be from overseas too and as you said, not quite suitable for our weather or work culture 🙂 Cardigans and jackets are a girl’s best friend and they help hide a multitude of sins! I’m starting to be a bit more adventurous with my shoes. A bit tired of wearing black shoes all the time – I need colour! 😉

I don’t look too good in black, so most of the time I avoid it (I look like I’m ready to join the convent whenever I try a black dress on, especially one that looks more formal).
