During the week, I happened to head down to the KLCC area and noticed that there were many tourist buses in the area around the park. Apparently, that is a very good spot for taking the ubiquitous tourist photo of the Petronas Twin Towers because every bus stopped there, disgorged loads of tourists whoโd pose and take photos first with their DSLR then their point and shoot camera and then their phone cameras. Every one of them! I was also terribly amused to see almost all the kawaii photo poses in the book, and more that I never knew existed ๐ It was educational.
I had my camera with me so I decided to take some random shots. There is no real theme to it but since it was a work day and there I was, hereโs some random shots of what I wore to work that day.
Iโve learnt one thing. I am terrible at having my photo taken. Stiff as a board LOL!
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? Drifting through the windโฆ.
So no, you may not expect to see regular features like this in the near future unless I get it in my head to be random again or there is something I want to show you ๐
Iโve been carrying my Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini bag for weeks now. Its lovely and roomy and fits a ton. I actually have my DSLR in there some days and you canโt quite tell. Well, my shoulder can, because its otherwise a very heavy bag. The metal hardware is lovely but makes the bag heavy.
So hereโs what I wore to work on this random working day.
Dress: A basic black dress I picked up in Singapore many years ago for about $29
Shoes: Clarks heels bought on sale for about £25
Bracelet: Triple strand of faux pearls with clasp from Sweet Contemplation Accessories
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Morning After Mini
Thanks for reading this maiden attempt at an outfit post. As you can see, I donโt quite stick to a very conventional office dress code unless I absolutely have to, preferring to wear something simple but comfortable and hoping to get away with it most of the time ๐ Iโm not the most fashionable person too as you can probably tell LOL! ๐
The photos here are also lesson #1 in why you shouldnโt take photos in the 12-3pm time. See the harsh light? The shadows cast? Next time I attempt something like this (if I ever do), Iโll do it in the evening. Iโll have to steal time off work of course but itโll be fun ๐
Do you have a very strict dress code at work? Is it all shirts and suits for you, or are you in a relaxed office environment?
I guess I belong in the latter category unless there is something serious on the books, then I make a little more effort to look a little more serious and corporate ๐ Hope your weekend has been a good one!
xx Paris B

I adore this post and the pictures. I think you look polished and professional possibly what your profession dictates? Would love to see more posts like these in the future pleaseeeeeeee ๐
Guess my work environment is always relaxed. I usually layer a wool sweater over a shirt and pair that with a skirt. I usually run about in ballet flats. But on particularly wet days I would just not bother changing out of my wellies. On days I need to drive to the regional offices, I would even just wear jeans because being stuck in a car for 4 hours or more, I want to be comfortable.
Paris B says
Thank you and I will try my very best to oblige. The worst part about doing these full body shots is a) finding a location and b) getting someone competent enough to take the shot ๐ The latter is harder than I thought โ I might have to make more photographer friends LOL! ๐ I am usually relaxed for work too โ this was a more โdressed upโ day. Bleh
Becca says
Ooh Parisโyou are so chic! I NEVER wear dressesโbut I love the look. I wish I were girlier sometimes ๐ Also am in love with that bag! I need to save my $ and invest in a nice purse. I always splurge on makeup and my clothing and accessories suffer
Paris B says
Thank you Becca! As a student, I never wore dresses either. I practically lived in jeans! Its only been in recent years that Iโve started finding my own fashion style, and finding dresses I can wear comfortably ๐ As for bags, I love them. Iโd save for the bag I want and I will splurge, but I really should do something about my wardrobe ๐ Maybe these posts will kick me in the rear so I pay a little more attention ๐
stephy says
Is it hazy? looks like the twin tower is so โgreyโ ..hehe
Paris B says
Yeah I think it was a bit of a hazy day ๐
giddy tigress says
Love those photos! You took them with a tripod?!
Paris B says
Thanks GT ๐ I had a friend help โ didnโt dare use a tripod because itโd likely be stolen from under my nose LOL! ๐
Applegal says
Love the look! It looks like a night look to me, a bright belt (Iโm thinking red?) might bring more colour to it. I fell in love with the gold hardware on the bag, but shame that it makes the bag heavy. YES to taking photos in the evening!
Paris B says
Thanks! It could quite easily transition into night, or even for the weekend I will agree ๐ The bag is a bit heavy partly due to the hardware and partly due to the leather. I was very surprised myself when I first got it but it also teaches me not to carry too much in my bag each time so its good training ๐
germs says
looking real polished, Paris! liking the bag and the shoes โ used to think Clarks shoes were plain looking but the pair you have on looks pretty ๐ is it comfortable? i like wearing one-piece outfits too, because iโm too lazy to match tops to bottoms :p
Paris B says
Thanks Germs ๐ I used to think the same way you did about Clarks but they are looking much better these days, and Clarks shoes are one of the most comfortable for me. I wear this pair practically everyday and its hard to tell but its really on its last legs now and due to be replaced ๐
Mei Ping says
I love this maiden outfit post !!! Please make it a weekly post.
I love to wear dresses to work as I find them so versatile. It allows me more time in the mornings when Iโm rushing (which is all the time) and if I need to attend meetings, I just put on a jacket and Iโm good to go.
I have at least 20++ dresses in my wardrobe and love all of them. I purchased some from ASOS where some were hits others were misses.
Paris B says
Thank you so much for the support Mei Ping! ๐ I canโt promise a weekly post (hard to get photos taken) but I will try to have a similar post about once or twice a month ๐ I feel the same way about wearing dresses as you do! The only problem is, I canโt recycle them so that means a minimum of 5 dresses for a week LOL! Where do you get your dresses from? I find it hard to buy dresses too โ the styles are a bit young or frivolous for me in some stores.
Stacey says
Love the bag; isnโt mini at all, very work appropriate. When I first started working, I adhered to the shirt and skirt/pants ensemble but gradually Iโve switched it up to spaghetti and skirt plus jacket but that isnโt too comfy either. Moreover that requires me to colour coordinate and ensure all three clothing items have been ironed and also means more clothes to wash.
Now I only wear dresses to work. No need to colour coordinate top and bottoms ๐
Paris B says
Thanks Stacey! Yeah the original Morning After Bag was huge (more like a weekend bag) so when the Mini came out I was very pleased ๐ Iโve got a new found appreciation for dresses too! Only problem is in finding nice ones that donโt look too young or frivolous ๐
Jue says
My work dictates jeans and shirts all the time. Even when I go to suppliers for visit.
I miss the dress and skirts sometimes but totally unsafe when you go up the stairs
*winks*
p/s: Thatโs in front of the exxon car park isnโt it? I saw loads of them and all these tourist think that itโs a perfectly safe spot to stand around which is true except when thereโs cars!
Paris B says
Haha I totally get what you mean about the stairs ๐ As for the location, it was a side road to some of the condos in the KLCC area near the carpark. The tourists go mad there and its a pretty good location to get the towers, but thankfully traffic was quite quiet ๐
Swati says
you look lovely, Paris ๐ in fact, when i saw the first pic, I was like you wear this to office??? i mean what about strict dress codes!!! and, then, when you talk about comfort and getting away with it, i know exactly what you are saying coz even i used to do it as an intern ๐ now, I donโt have strict dress codes so I wear anything I want. and, yeah, I am also bad at getting clickedโฆI get a lot conscious and look weird in snaps ๐ but, you are looking fine in factโฆyeah, a little relaxed could do ๐
Paris B says
Haha thank you Swati ๐ Yes I do dress quite casually to go to work. Gone are my days of dressing corporately ๐ And yes, thanks for the suggestion. I will try to be more relaxed next time ๐
Gin says
I always thy to cheat on dresscode! I am supposed to wear formal everyday.. Instead, I wore blouse+ black jeans almost everyday!
Reason:
firstly, it is inconvenient to wear dress/skirt in the hospital. Second, I just hate hate hate HATE ironing clothes! I always wash and quickly take te clothes out and hang for drying. Thereโs lesser wrinkles if u donโt leave them in the washing machine..
*cough*
very naughty indeed!
Paris B says
Haha if your black jeans are deep enough to pass scrutiny then by all means, cheat! ๐ Some places are definitely not suitable for dresses or skirts, especially things like pencil skirts. Sometimes getting in and out of the car is a chore! I am terribly lazy with ironing too but the garment steamer helps a lot! ๐
gin says
uniqlo black jeans is awesome! coz i never got caught in them! XD and they are super comfy too! ~~LOVE~~
i occasionally get caught with other black jeansโฆ
i am getting more of them definitely! eagle-eyeing the uniqlo sales..
and yes u are right about getting in and out of the car! not to mention too climbing up and down the stairs! i dont know how some juniors came all dressed upโฆ
maybe the take their time up and down by waiting for the SLOWWWWW hospital liftsโฆ
Paris B says
Ah I love Uniqlo ๐ Iโm not sure I can fit into their normal jeans (darned hips!) but Iโll be sure to take a look if I see them on sale ๐ I do have a pair (my 1st!) of skinny jeans and theyโre from Uniqlo, but its a little stretchy and its got heat tech so its super warm and I melt to death in our weather everytime I wear it. I think I need to travel somewhere cool LOL!
gin says
u mean u hips cant get in? but they are very stretchable~~
i mean, i have big buttsโฆ >.< and i fit them wellโฆ
just that they are usually a little bit too long so i have to fold them at the end a littleโฆ
sly uniqlo puts these at 49.9 at sale and the minimal spending for a free adjustment is above rm50โฆ
and yes they can be a bit warmโฆ
funny but i seem to be able to tolerate my lower limbs being warm but cant stand anything long sleeves HAHAHA

Paris I think this post is great, would love to see more outfit posts! You look very classy and chic ๐ Love the bag too, I see a lot of RM bags on blogs and they always look so nice! Tempted ๐
x Renee
Paris B says
Thank you Renee ๐ I have a couple of RM items and they are nice bags โ not too pricey and look good. But because of the hardware they do tend to be a bit heavy โ worth taking the plunge for sure!
Jyoan says
You are so well coordinated despite this being a normal workday! All in black, and the pearls really makes it perfect.
I like the bag! And the shoes. First thing I noticed was the shoes. =D
Paris B says
Thanks Jyoan! The shoes are quite old by now but super comfy! Isnโt that always the case with shoes though ๐
cat says
I love it! you should do it more often ๐
Paris B says
Thank you Cat I will try ๐
cat says
Forgot to ask where you got the bag?
Paris B says
I got it from Shopbop.com ๐
Jennifer says
Aww Paris, you look great! Awesome and super love this post ๐ I frequent fashion blogs a lot for workwear inspiration! But those are usually overseas ones and their dress code might be different from what is acceptable here. I have an almost similar dress too but never wore it to work. My work dress code states no open toes shoes and includes a long list of exception โ pedal pushers, fit flops, spaghetti strap etc. Also, since I am based at my clientโs office, their policy must must be observed as well. Cardigan is usually my best accomplice at work worn over a simple black dress โ haha, I am boring and predictable that way. On Fridays I will usually put on a jersey dress for comfort. I keep a jacket at work slumped over my chair for just in case moments. I try to jazz up my clothes with shoes and my favourite double strand pearls, some eye shadow and lip gloss helps as Iโve recently noticed ๐
Paris B says
Thank you Jennifer! I donโt read many fashion blogs but when I do they do tend to be from overseas too and as you said, not quite suitable for our weather or work culture ๐ Cardigans and jackets are a girlโs best friend and they help hide a multitude of sins! Iโm starting to be a bit more adventurous with my shoes. A bit tired of wearing black shoes all the time โ I need colour! ๐
Sze Ling says
OMG! I LOVE love love your heels! Makes me feel like rushing to my nearest Clarks store now. ๐
I have flat feet (no arch what-so-ever) and very broad feet, so itโs super duper hard to find nice and comfortable heels. I have yet to own a pair of heels that Iโm willingly to wear everyday. ๐
Paris B says
Thanks Sze Ling ๐ Clarks has some nicer looking shoes these days and I have flat feet too. They are super comfy and are in fact the only brand I can comfortably wear every day without having to break it in. The other is Ferragamo but ahem! Its just too scary to contemplate ๐
Sze Ling says
Iโve yet to own any Clarks shoes, though I suspect that might change very soon. ๐
And donโt tempt me with that F-brand. No!
Sunny says
Pariiiis youโre such a lady in this outfit! Iโm a big fan! I donโt look too good in black, so most of the time I avoid it (I look like Iโm ready to join the convent whenever I try a black dress on, especially one that looks more formal). I think your skin tone is fair enough to contrast nicely with this color!
Paris B says
Aww thank you Sunny! ๐ Black isnโt a colour for everyone I must agree because its generally a harsh colour. What sort of colours do you wear a lot of then? ๐
Sunny says
Bright colors! I like patterns and bright colors. Fuchsia, royal purple, certain shades of greenโฆ Colors really cheer me up ๐
Paris B says
Iโm sure you look stunning in jewel tones ๐ I love wearing colours too ๐
Juan says
Gorgeous!! The entire look makes this post just right.
Paris B says
Thanks Juan! <3
Monstro says
Looking absolutely elegant PB! Love the bag lots!!!
Paris B says
Thanks Monstro! Its old by now but still holding up very well!
