Sleek Makeup Glory Palette 2012 Collection: Brighter and Shiner and Going for Gold!

July 4, 2012 Paris B 47 Comments

When I saw the Sleek Makeup Glory i-Divine palette, I had to stop myself from going “Eeee!!!” The reason is because I’m an Anglophile and because I have a soft spot for the London Tube 😀 Have you ever read Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere? I loved that book because it brought the London Underground to life 😀

It never ceases to amaze me how old some of the stations are. Baker Street Station for example (with its Sherlock silhouettes on the wall tiles) is one of the oldest stations, opened in 1863. Everytime I see the outlets in the ceiling which used to allow smoke from the trains to disperse, I wonder just what it must have been like back in the day – dirty I bet 😛 I used to live near the Central, Circle and District lines. So seeing an eyeshadow palette with colours named after the different colour coded London Underground lines made me feel all nostalgic.

The Glory palette is part of the limited edition 2012 collection which commemorates something quintessentially London, the London Underground; and the 2012 Summer Olympics which is held in London this year. Exciting times! This palette is, I feel, a palette of contrasts. Let me show you the swatches and tell you why.

Your Say: Do you toss out your mascara after 3 months? It could be 3 months too early!

toss mascara after 3 months?

Ladies, lets have a show of hands here.

How many of you abide by the “Toss your mascara after 3 months” rule? This is a “makeup rule” that we’ve been indoctrinated with and have had it drummed into us for so long its become “the norm”. The primary reason, we’re told, is that this is to protect our eyes, and prevent infections.

This “3 month rule” is also the reason for many people to go with a pharmacy or drugstore brand mascara. What’s the use of buying a more expensive mascara (never mind that it may look nicer) if we’re just going to toss it after 3 months anyway right? It’d be a waste of money! There’s a lot of truth in all that.

So come on, don’t be shy – Do you toss your mascara after 3 months? Even if its not gone bad or dried out? 🙂

Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion : A Korean BB product I actually really like!

July 2, 2012 Paris B 72 Comments

Y’know, in this infernal heat (no letting up for now, guys! Summer is well and truly upon us) anything with “snow” in the name catches my eye. Snow ice desserts, snow capped mountains, Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion…

laneige snow bb cushion review

Yep! You see, the Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion promises that you will feel a cooling sensation on your skin when you pat it on and it promises to cool your skin down by up to 3°C as cooler skin means makeup stays on better. Now, you tell me you didn’t find that intriguing! 😀

Ok, to be perfectly honest, all I was really really intrigued by was the sponge cushion that holds the BB liquid. We’ve seen BB creams, BB powder pacts, BB mousse even. But how often have we seen BB cream/liquid in a sponge? Its my first time too. I was highly sceptical when I first held it. “Gimmick!” my brain screamed. And then, I looked at the sponge and “Oh drat! It looks so dark! How am I ever going to be able to use it?!”

You know what they say. Never judge a BB Cream by its colour… or something like that 😉

Sway to the Calypso beat in Acapulco: Or Colour Blocking on Nails to buck a bland corporate environment

July 1, 2012 Paris B 19 Comments

“Orange” you glad its Sunday today? How was your week and weekend?

I’ve had a really rough week at work, and haven’t had much of a weekend either. Suddenly, its getting sort of hard to balance things on this tightrope. Yeah boo, feels sorry for myself and all that 😛 But I am trying to get over this slump and find something to look forward to and one thing that did make me sort of pleased over this week, was surprisingly, my nails.

The primary colour I used was Calypso from the Dior Summer Mix collection and it is lovely and bright and cheery. Calypso is a lovely coral shade that pulls more red than orange, and unlike Acapulco, I found this one a breeze to apply. I’d actually sort of given up on these polishes after Acapulco but I’m glad I didn’t. It was easy to get a lovely smooth finish with thin layers of colour (very important for me as I’m TERRIBLE with controlling colour). But what I enjoyed most was rocking the bland corporate world with colour blocking accent nails! 😉
