Simple Blogging Tips: Tips by Top Bloggers for taking good photographs for your blog

July 27, 2012 Paris B 54 Comments

Aside from good prose and passion for subject matter, I must say that I’m 100% swayed by good photos in blogs. Humans are visual creatures and a good photograph speaks volumes. I may not be interested in the product or brand but a good photograph will draw me in hook line and sinker to read the post, if nothing else. I may never buy it, or even be remotely interested in it, but I’ll read the post – because the photos are gorgeous. I will even subscribe to a blog just because their photos win me over and if they write well, wow! 😀

If you have  a beauty blog, or a fashion blog or a lifestyle blog, aside from design and prose, good and interesting photographs are essential. Sometimes, readers aren’t visiting for what you have to say – they are visiting to see what you have to show them. Instead of preaching from my soapbox, I’ve decided to get some insights from other bloggers 🙂

Since I move around the beauty blogging circle more than other niches, I have contacted 4 of my favourite beauty bloggers (who are all top beauty bloggers in their own right! 😀 ) whose blogs showcase beautiful photos, to have them share their tips for taking good photographs, and the equipment they use 🙂

I think you would be quite familiar with them, won’t you? 😉 Their tips are invaluable too.

I can’t decide if the Laneige Water Bank Mineral Skin Mist is a Hit or a Mist for a hot day

July 26, 2012 Paris B 38 Comments

Mist = Miss = Me trying to be funny when I’m really not.

When the weather is hot or drying, like Summer time or when we encounter a heat wave here, I like to keep a little bottle of facial mist in my bag. It freshens me up and helps my skin not dry out. I also like to take it on holiday, because I tend to walk around a lot especially if I’m in a new place so a face mist helps me cool down or sometimes when water is scarce, allows me to wash my fingers too! Bet you didn’t think of that last one 😉

I’m not quite sure though if the Laneige Water Bank Mineral Skin Mist is a similar sort of product as the spray cans I’m used to. It comes in a translucent light blue plastic bottle with a spray mechanism that sprays out a fine mist. There are pros to this, because an aerosol can is compressed air and is liable to explode. Not kidding! Also, I’m not sure if some airlines allow them on board. A spray bottle however doesn’t have a danger of exploding if the pressure increases or if its too hot, and it isn’t filled with air, so perhaps it might even be a more economical item to use.

I took this mist with me on my recent beach break to see how it would fare in a hot, windy, drying environment. Dipping in and out of a pool dries out the skin and sea air is surprisingly very drying! Must be all that salt 😛 So what better time to test out a hydrating product 😀

Insta-Updates: Show me the Money!

July 25, 2012 Paris B 34 Comments

We, here in Malaysia, have in addition to the introduction of newly designed coins, now have newly designed currency notes! They were just released at the beginning of the week, and I’ve just gotten my hands on the whole set.

new malaysian notes money

Well ok, the photo only shows you 4 because I’d somehow forgotten to include the RM10 note. I’ve got the picture of the full set after the jump though 😀

The RM1 and RM5 notes are that new fangled polymer notes that are supposed to last longer, while the rest are still paper. Lovely and crisp and fresh from the mint!

Affordably priced gem! The Revlon Photoready Primer will leave you primed and photo ready

July 25, 2012 Paris B 37 Comments

Revlon launched a couple of new items a while ago that garnered some interest. The first was a mousse style foundation and the second was a primer. I was more interested in the primer than I was in the foundation, primarily because I wasn’t too taken in by the concept of the latter. Still, I will share my thoughts on it later.

revlon photoready primer

I thought I’d tell you first about the primer because a) I like it and b) I realised I’d previewed it about 2 months ago without follow up 😛 The Revlon Photoready Primers come in 2 types – 001 Photoready Perfecting Primer and 002 Photoready Color Correcting Primer. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Revlon Photoready Color Correcting Primer in 002 because its simple – its the one I have 😀 This one is a pale lilac pink in the bottle and is meant to act both as a primer, filling up lines and pores to give you a smooth finish for your foundation to go on; and to provide a tint of colour to correct and brighten uneven skintone.

Whilst I think this primer does an ace job at acting as a primer, I am a little less impressed by its colour correcting claims.
