Insta-Update: The heat is on!

June 12, 2012 Paris B 22 Comments

This bright blue sky is testament to the intense heat we have been subjected to for the past few weeks. I have no idea when this heatwave will end and for all my attempts at staying cool, in the shade and hydrated, I’m slowly but surely flagging.

How have you been coping?

I shared some tips on coping with a heatwave, a few years ago.

I just looked back at it, and it was in May 2009. We’re now in June 2012. I’ve just realized that I’ve been doing the exact same things now as I did back in 2009. I guess there’s a reason its my tips because I already practice it! 😀

I’m off to gulp down more water and later this evening, to slap on a cool sheet mask. Gotta keep this skin hydrated and happy! What are you doing to stay cool?

Paris B

the obvious thing will be staying in an air-conditioned space and gulp tonnes of water. i will be going for a walk later to get some jungle air 😉

Lol yeah that would be the best thing to do! Little wonder I prefer to work from the air conditioned office than from home!

Paris, I know you’re probably suffering, but you have no idea how jealous I am! We’re having what is even according to the locals a VERY bad year in terms of weather. It’s not warm and it rains and rains and rains… So I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to explore cooling down methods haha

Wow! Belgium too? I’d been reading about the rains in London but had no idea it was just as cold in the rest of Europe. It’s summer!!! I wish I could package you some sun!

Yup. Even the locals have confirmed this is like the worst spring/summer ever. I wonder if it’ll get better, but I won’t get my hopes up!

Golly! You know it’s extraordinary when locals complain! Just like it is here. Us locals are melting and trying to explain to visitors that no, we’re usually a lot hardier lol!

I can’t stand the weather that I try to avoid the sun whenever I can.

I drink sour plum juice. It helps with dispelling heat from the body. Of course remember to drink lots of water after it.

Nice clouds in the clear and bright blue sky! These days I feel like a thirsty hippo in the scorching heat that I finish about 3 litres of water in the office even though I stay indoors. My mum packs lemon slices for me to add in the water – more refreshing 🙂 The office central air-conditioning goes off around 6pm and it gets so stuffy almost immediately. I bake in my shirt and skirt until I leave work late night…not nice.

On the upside, having chilled coconut water or cucumber juice is good. And my hair also behaves better in the dry hot air until humidity sets in. Can’t have it all ya, but having Frozen Margarita or chilled Baileys in the evenings is heavenly 🙂

Aww yr mom is so sweet! I have been drinking a lot of water too even though I’m in the office most of the time too. Also, all I want to eat is chilled foods and light salads. Anything else feels like too much effort 😛 I can’t imagine working in an aircond-less office! Must be horrible! A frozen margarita sounds delish actually. When are you buying? 😛

I was paranoid when I started to feel thirsty all the time but I reckoned it is the weather. My friend’s sister kept seedless grapes in the freezer and served us frozen grapes just like how it’s part of the Cheese Platter. It’s yummy but not that good for teeth to bite into the icy grapes…

Lol, yeah sipping frozen margarita together will be great and when we do that, I will tell you a funny story I encountered once when ordering the cocktail 😀

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.

Happy 4 years boy ❤️

We just started retailing our dog treats @quandogtreats at our first offline outpost! We’re available exclusively at Lex’s Patio Pantry @lexpatiopantry, a brand new cosy spot in the heart of Bangsar.

Housed at the base of Kapas Condominium, (enter from Jalan Penaga), you’ll find the brand new Lex’s Patio Pantry, a curated grocer with pantry staples and a little cafe set up offering breakfast and lunch. It’s a lovely spot that is quiet and green, filled with all sorts of wonderful goodies, and is best of all, pet friendly! This explains my lack of updates generally. Been very busy preparing for this, and amazingly enough, moving operations again! It’s a long sucky story but it might have just turned out for the best for us so as they say about windows opening and closing, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and look for the open window when doors close.
