You don’t need a black tie event to wear the Dior Addict Extreme Black Tie lipstick, It works for all occasions

May 10, 2012 Paris B 72 Comments

Some days, when you are feeling contrary, whip out this black lipstick, and watch as the horrified fascination of watchers turn into wonder and then envy – that you have the prettiest, most sultry puckers in their midst. And it isn’t black as they might expect! This party trick is worth performing in company because really, this is one surprising and very lovely lipstick.

dior addict black tie

I love lipsticks that behave this way. Last Christmas, I picked up the Guerlain Nuit D’amour Rouge Automatique which is quite similar to this offering from Dior in the Addict Extreme range – Black Tie. The good thing is that the Dior one is permanent and feels more moisturising. Wanna see how this black lipstick swatches?

Black Tie swatches plum! 😀 Oy vey! Don’t you just love that?

swatch

There is no shimmer in this product. That’s just light bouncing off the swatch. And that’s just 1 layer too. Its a beautiful reddened plum when applied, which belies the black colour in the tube.

Although its pigmented, the texture sits very well on lips. It is light, it does not settle into lines and in fact, seems to plump up my lips. When I suffer from slightly chapped lips, I usually turn to either the Dior Addict or Serum de Rouge lipsticks because they will give me good colour, help moisturize my lips and give my lips a pretty plumped up look.

black tie on lips

And here’s how it swatches on my lips. Its a very lovely deep red-plum and I love it, because its actually not as dark as it seems. It feels almost balmy on, and for me, lasts at least 4 hours or till lunch. I never test my lipsticks past the 4 hour mark because that’s when I have my lunch, and I wipe everything off and start afresh after lunch. So I’d say you’re good for at least 4 hours without it rubbing off too much and even if it fades, you get a lovely stain.

If the colour scares you (and you shouldn’t be!) then sheer it out. Apply just 1 layer, and you can top up with some gloss. It becomes easier to wear that way and if you use a warm gloss over it, you could even change the colour and tone. Black Tie is gorgeous and I would urge anyone to give it a go, because it might just surprise you… and you don’t even need a black tie event to wear Black Tie 😉

In a nutshell

The Dior Addict Extreme lipstick in Black Tie looks black in the tube, but when swatched, applies a deep red-plum that is very lovely. The texture is balmy but it is quite glossy and pigmented and is quite moisturising too. The colour is one I can imagine will suit many and it works for both day and night. In the day, sheer it out a little if you aren’t used to the colour. For the night, layer it on – Black Tie is a gorgeous, sexy shade that is unlike the sea of reds out there. You will love it!

Pros: Lipstick is lightweight, pigmented, balmy and moisturizing, Colour is unexpected and lovely on lips

Cons: Some may find the colour too deep

Here is how I wore it in a look.

Also featuring: Diorskin Forever, Guerlain Blush G Noir and Terra Inca bronzer, Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit, Lunasol Smokey Ocean eyeshadow

Seems like I like doing this strong eye/lip combo a lot – did it for NARS Dogon and I’m doing it again here 😀 I’m back in my strong eye makeup phase where I go for deeper colours on the eyes. I was in my light eye phase just a couple of weeks back.

Would you give Dior Black Tie a try? Have you worn any other lipsticks that are surprising like this? I think I just like the fact that I could sit in company, whip out a black tube of lipstick to touch up, watch everyone go “Oooh! Is that black lipstick?” and then slick it on for a sultry pout. Mwaks! 😀

If you’d like to check Black Tie out, and can’t get to a Dior counter, let the Dior Addict Extreme bus come to you! The bus will be going around the country from May 9-26 so check out the schedule for a venue near you (click to enlarge). You can try all 12 Dior Addict Extreme lip colours and also get a free temporary tattoo 😉 All aboard!

I tried Black Tie on today, and oh, it was gorgeous. As the summer collection was out, I tested the Gold Lipgloss on Black Tie, and the SA couldn’t stop saying how pretty it looked!

I’d have to admit, it was so, so beautiful with the gold lipgloss over, on the center of my lips that I almost bought Black Tie!

If anyone else is reading, do try the summer glosses over this! I think the blackness of it makes those glosses really stand out and give a stronger third dimension to the lips. =D

Oh dear, I really shouldn’t… But then again, your review said it’s balmy & moisturizing so maybe that will justify the “buy” button.

The colour is surprisingly pretty. It’s really deceiving. I can’t wear plum. It makes me look old and tired. You look great in plum.

Thanks lavender 🙂 a straight purple plum is quite aging, but this one is a bit more forgiving since its more red. But yes, something light and brighter will help us look younger 🙂

HOT! I love Dior Addict Extreme… what a great lipstick. How is the staying power like?

I’ve wanted to try a vampy color like that too for a long time but I’m too scared.. but it looks too good not to! Haha. Soon, soon! 😛

Staying power is pretty good, Renee. I get at least 4 hours out of it by which time it’s lunch and I remove everything after lunch. Give it a shot, you might like it too 😉

I love lipsticks and glosses that are surprising like that! It looks amazing on you, it’s great how you can wear these colours without them overwhelming your features, although now I think that confidence must have something to do with it too.

Dior has another lipstick very similar to this in their regular addict line (white case), called Perfecto (991). I don’t go for as bold a look as you do, just lightly dab it on as a stain. The fun in these colours is that hey are so versatile! There’s the gloss version too – Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Black Tie Plum (982). Even the names and numbers are close!

Warm, coral/orange/gold glosses over this colour would be very pretty too. I tried it with a peachy coral gloss once and it was a nice variation.

    Anyway, your makeup rocks!

Thank you Leila! And thank you too for the suggestions to pair with this lipstick! Jyoan in a previous comment has suggested a gold gloss but I don’t have that one so I’m going to try your suggestion with an orange-gold gloss and see how it looks. How exciting! 😀
