The day lip balm takes on a limited edition flavour is the day you know that the cosmetics world has gone a little boinkers. Oh wait. There already is a limited edition lip balm out there! The world has gone boinkers! 😛 (not bonkers – that’s too normal)
The Maybelline Baby Lips lipbalms are quite highly raved among lip balm users. It promises to give you baby soft lips with regular use and many people agree with this claim. It helps of course that its affordable too.
Personally, I’m not much of a lip balm user but I do have a couple of these Baby Lips lipbalms and the few times I have used them, they do live up to their claims of keeping lips soft. The up side is that they don’t leave my lips feeling oily. You know how some supposedly moisturizing lip balms do that? Slick on a layer and you get this oily or waxy film on your lips. Eww!
Maybelline, being a sponsor of the New York Fashion Week that was in February 2012, released a limited edition flavour in Protecting Berry in limited edition packaging. Limited edition lip balm, yo!
This limited edition item, is a limited edition flavoured Baby Lips lip balm in limited edition pink, black and white packaging. The flavour is Protecting Berry and tastes, one would imagine, of berries.
Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm L-R: Protecting Berry (LE), Mango Pie, Cherry Velvet
There are also 2 other new flavours in the Baby Lips lip balm range released alongside the LE one – Mango Pie and Cherry Velvet.
I tried Mango Pie (because I’m a little afraid of trying anything flavoured with Cherry. I’m always reminded of cough mixture!) and although it tastes sweet, it does taste of fresh, ripe mangoes! It is quite nice, because I do like eating mangoes and this reminds me that I haven’t bought any fresh mangoes for a while 😀
Texture wise, its smooth, soothes my lips, and does not leave it feeling waxy and oily or sticky. Lips do feel softened and that mango scent and taste does linger. After a while, I got a bit sick of it. I don’t like these things to linger. It might explain why I don’t use lip balms a lot, and when I do, I go for something unscented.
Still, for fans of lip balms, you could do worse! Do tell me if you want to read something more than “My lips felt nicely moisturized without feeling oily and sticky but the smell and taste, albeit nice, gets on my nerves after a while” 😛
Have you seen these around? Do you own any of the 3 Baby Lips lip balms shown here, or any previous incarnations? Like them? Or maybe you are like me and just can’t get the hang of using lip balms at all 😛

i do use lip balms but not a fan of this maybelline baby lips, doesn’t last long on me 🙁
Paris B says
Really? I don’t use it very much coz I don’t like scented balms. I prefer unscented so I stick to my Lucas Papaw Ointment for nighttime.
Fiona Loh says
I’m using Protecting Berry. On weekday I top the lip balm with lipstick so there’s no scent. Wearing this alone is not that bad. The berry scent do went off after a while 🙂
Paris B says
Good to know it works for you. I never got the hang of using a lip balm under lipstick lol! Most of the time, if a lipstick is too dry or drying I just don’t use it. I find lip alms give too much slip. But I think I’m alone in this because many people do use lip alms under lipsticks!
Renee | Beauty Fool says
I don’t use Maybelline anymore because they test their products on animals, but I just had to comment on the cherry/cough mixture comment: this is the reason WHY I love cherry flavored comments, LOL! I used to love drinking cough medicine as a kid 😛
xx Renee
Paris B says
Lol!! Can’t believe you like cough mixture 😛 I’d actually prefer the thick black ones over the red ones any day, even now! 😀
Jyoan says
I have Pink and Mint Green one that is called Soothing Cherry, and it smells of grapes! I love this Baby Lips. Really makes me feel like I have baby lips. =P Only gripe is that these are not natural/organic, so I only use them when I am in front of the computer, and know I am not eating.
Paris B says
Great to know it works for you 😀 I am not a fan of lipbalm in general, so have no real feelings for them either way 🙂
beaty says
i’m using the anti-oxidant berry but not good on me..it make my lips dry some more..
Paris B says
That does suck! I’ve read so many people loving it. I find it a bit too strong smelling and too sweet myselfbut luckily, not drying. Although I probably don’t use it enough to notice 🙂
Sze Ling says
Hmm…never try these before. I’m a fan of Burt’s Bee lip balms. 😀
Paris B says
I was gifted with a Burt’s Bees tinted balm once. Didn’t really have an opinion on it either way. Guess the whole balm thing makes it fall into my blind spot 🙂
Jennifer says
I got the Protecting Berry and Mango Pie. Protecting Berry is surprisingly nice tasting and smelling for a berry flavoured lip blam. I agree with you, cherry flavoured one is a bit risky to try. Sometimes berry and cherry flavoured lip balms are just headed for horrifying taste and smell. I thought the Mango Pie one smelled very tropical and has a sharp hint of pineapple, anything and not mango. They both serve me well for day and night usage, quite happy with the products pricing and packaging, hehe.
Paris B says
Great to know they work for you 🙂 I think I’m just used to unscented balms or just the Lucas Papaw Ointment that I use before bed. He sweet scent and taste of these balms make it hard for me to wear just before bed because it makes me think I haven’t brushed my teeth!
Sunny says
I’ve heard great things about these, but for the moment I’ve found enough hydrating lipglosses/lipsticks so that I haven’t needed a lip balm during daytime for a LONG time now. That and I use my NUXE honey balm before bedtime, so my lips always wake up in great shape!
Paris B says
Honey balm sounds delicious! I have never gotten the hang of wearing a lpbalm under lipstick. I don’t wear lipbalm in the day at all, just because I don’t feel the need for it 😛 when I was in the UK during colder months, I did use lipbalm but not since coming back here. Guess weather plays a part too.
Wojis says
I love the colors and again what a great picture, so bright and fresh and it represents the products well. I haven’t seen it yet here btw, I’ll keep a look out.
Always great to find a great new balm.
Paris B says
Thank you Wojis 🙂 I take it you are a fan of lip balm?
Wojis says
Yep, lip- balm, gloss, stick. My first beauty product was lipstick, always take care of your lips, they make you look beautyl. I have lip balm in my bag, car, kitchen….. Can’t live without 🙂
Shuaddict says
I love the original Baby Lips, even if the Asian version is completely different from the US ones. Like you mentioned they do the job and are not like an oil slick. Will have to give these a try, thanks!
Paris B says
I have seen pictures of the US versions and have noticed the different packaging and their balms are tinted? How very strange, the marketing practices across the world 😛
milktea says
my tried n true is the Neutrogena norwegian formula lipbalm for years now 🙂 do u remember the maybelline babylips in ur MWS Awards goody bag last year? it left a waxy looking cast on my lips so i gifted it to my sis. i really wanted to like it but it wasnt so suitable for me. dont think i will get any le lipbalms for now.
Paris B says
Yikes! I don’t think you were the only one with that problem. Someone else told me the lip balm didn’t work for them either! I use the Lucas papaw ointment myself as a night lip treatment 🙂
Reena says
Two thumbs up for Maybelline Baby Lips! It soothes, moisturize and hydrates my lips at the same time. Can’t get enough of it, I’m using the mint flavor. I want to try on mango pie.
Paris B says
I think a mint flavoured lip balm maybe more to my liking. Sweet scents and flavours are a bit weird especially if I’m using it before bed. Makes me think I should be brushing my teeth again 😀
jenny says
this doesn’t work on me. Used it for about a week and chucked it out :))
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula is the best for me.
Paris B says
Another reader like the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula one too! I tried the hand cream once but wasn’t overly impressed with it then. I think its the scent in these balms that drive me nuts 😛
jenny says
yes, I also prefer unscented balm. Actually I also love Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream too, Paris. It the only one that seemed to works.. haha… I actually used it more for my feet. at night use it thickly and put on a sock. No more dry, cracked feet. Really amazing, better than all those expensive brands of foot cream that don’t do nothing. 🙂
Paris B says
Ooh thanks for the tip about using it on feet! I guess if it works for the Norwegians in their freakingly cold winters, it should work for us right?! 😀
Amanda says
Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is my only lip balm. I’ve tried Maybelline lip balm once and I remember how awful it tasted – ‘fake’ fruity flavour that tasted like plastic. Never again!
Paris B says
Same here re: Lucas! 😀 I know some people don’t like the petroleum element but I”m not overly fussed plus it works well (and is relatively affordable!)
ysk says
I’m about to review those too, however I like cherry velvet, you should try it.
Sharon says
I have chapped lips and everytime I applied lipstick, there will be lines on my lips right after a few mins and also the fact that it looks patchy (does that make sense?). Been having this prob forever and i’ve tried like so many types of lipbalms and what not.
My favourite lipbalm is Boots Original Lipsalve (it was reformulated by Boots maybe 2-3 years ago – CRAP!). Hated the new formula coz it smelled like Vanilla and i hate anything that smelled sweet & a little bit waxy. I’m on my last tupe of the lipsalve though. Although it did not helped with healing the skin on my lips, it did keep it moisturised though.
Anyway, was at Clinique Pavilion last Saturday – i was actually gonna get a Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm. Well, silly me, forgetting that my lips are very pigmented – i actually don’t need a coloured one but you know.. i just want one lol. I ended getting their Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment. Very expensive (RM115) but the nice SA gave me a free sample tube of their Superbalm (the full sized one was around RM57 maybe?? not too sure, but I guess it’s around that range). The night that i used it, the next day, the peeling skin was GONE (well i had to use the toothbrush to brush it away though). Instruction on the box was to use it once in the morning & once at night. So i’m gonna practice this until the tube runs out (it’s not waxy or have any oily taste or any frangrance – it taste like nothing and smell like nothing, coz i don’t like that waxy smell/taste, it just make me feel like i might have a sore throat).
Yay, nice lips for me but…. so expensive. I might get a small tube of Lucas Paw Paw just to try out though. 😛 Since it’s super cheap! Now I have to lug myself to a Vitacare Pharmacy….
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing, Sharon! Its great to know that the Clinique Superbalm works for you but ouch on the price! I hope if you do try the Lucas Papaw Ointment, that it will be just as good so your wallet will be happy! 🙂 I have also seen it at Caring pharmacies, if there’s one near you 🙂
Sharon says
Hey Paris,
I think you have probably read wrongly. LOL It’s the Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment that worked. 😛 The superbalm is just a free gift from the nice SA. 😛 Yes, there is a Caring Pharmacy at the mall below my office building. Shall check it out tomorrow at lunch.
Paris B says
Oops! Sorry! This is why I shouldn’t be replying comments after lunch! zzzz…. Hope you find the Lucas Papaw! 😀
Christina says
Been seeing the Baby Lips around. They look cute but I don’t really like lip products with a taste. ROC lip balms have served me well (despite the hefty cost in Singapore) so I guess I’ll continue using it!
nn says
I have this in Mango Pie. It works on me and I love it but the scent is kinda annoying. I don’t really like products that smells like food.
My favourite lip balm would be the Original Carmex. It reminds me of medicinal stuff. I have a thing for medicine and hospitals 😛
Berenice says
I love this! Well I have all the original flavors, but in my area I can never come across any of the new or limited edition flavors and I would love to have them all!
