As a tropical gal, I used to look forward to Summer as a student in the UK. It meant I was going home for 3 whole months and that I would finally feel some sun and heat on my skin again. Heck! It meant I would finally be able to peel off the layers of clothes I live in for the most part of the year and finally air my skin!

These days, Summer doesn’t mean as much to me mainly because I battle the heat day in and day out, and I actually crave the cold some times. My my! Fickle aren’t we? 😛 So when the Lipstick Bandits decided to do a post about a bright lipstick for Summer, I felt a little unsure about what to pick. I live in a hot summery country all year round, and I wear most colours all the time – deep, dark, bright, red, orange, blue… ok maybe just blue lipgloss 😉
But there’s this lovely lipstick I’ve been meaning to tell you about for a while, and it incidentally is a lovely shade of coral that is quite fitting for summer and gives off a warm vibe so my pick is the Guerlain Shine Automatique in Pamplelune (240).
Pamplelune is French for Grapefuit and to be sure, this lovely shade of coral brings to mind the colour of a plump, juicy ruby grapefruit, ripened by the sun.

Guerlain Shine Automatique Pamplelune (240)
Do excuse the slightly worn look of this lipstick. I’ve been using it so often (and I actually forgot to take pictures of it when it was new!) lately and it might also have something to do with the hot weather we’ve been having here.
The Shine Automatique is the lighter sheerer version of the Rouge Automatique lipsticks by Guerlain. You can read my review on the Rouge Automatique in Chamade and Nuit d’Amour and you will notice from those swatches that Rouge Automatique is a fully opaque lipstick that is creamy and quite long lasting.
In hot weather, when you just want to lock yourself indoors with an iced lemonade, and a spinning fan (or better still, air conditioning!) you don’t want an opaque lipstick. You want something light on lips with a sheer bright colour. This is where Shine Automatique comes in.
It doesn’t have the balmy texture of Chanel Rouge Coco Shine or Dior Addict however. It is sheer yet pigmented… but I bet that didn’t make sense 😛 So here’s a swatch of Shine Automatique in Pamplelune.

Guerlain Shine Automatique Pamplelune 240 swatch
Do you get my sheer yet pigmented reference? 😛 Oh and its got this lovely shine to it when applied. If you look at the lipstick up close, you will see golden shimmer in it. It is all very fine so you don’t get that gritty feel when you rub your lips together. Do you get that with some shimmer lipsticks or lipglosses? They feel a little rough and when you rub your lips together, it feels gritty like sand. Urghs! I hate that. I don’t get it with this one 😀
And the colour is just perfect. Its bright yet because its sheer, it doesn’t look too bright. See? Its quite sheer when applied on lips, yet you see the pretty coral pink color.

The shine plumps up lips and I like it. I am quite unashamedly a huge fan of Guerlain lipsticks and the introduction of Shine Automatique is great because now I have a lipstick I can wear on those days when I don’t feel like having something too opaque on. It makes things look more informal, more relaxed, more casual… more summery!

Oh what else… its not drying, it isn’t as long lasting as the Rouge Automatiques but I don’t mind, the colours are pretty and I want another 😛 The only problem I have with this is the packaging which, I’m sorry Guerlain, I still don’t like this whole slide up slide down thing and that it is so light (I’ve talked about the packaging with Rouge Automatique and the same applies here). I’ve smushed the lipstick slightly for holding it in the wrong direction while sliding and swiped lipstick all down my palm 🙁
In a nutshell
The Guerlain Shine Automatique lipstick is a lighter, sheerer, shiny, glossy lipstick from Guerlain. The packaging is similar to that of the Rouge Automatiques, being a slide up slide down mechanism. I don’t like it, but I know people who do. The texture however is truly sublime and I love that it is sheer yet pigmented enough with just enough shine to plump up lips. Pamplelune is a lovely coral pink colour that is pretty on lips, brightening to the overall skintone and a right treat. Love it!
Pros: Gorgeous colour, Texture is sheer and light on lips yet pigmented for colour to show up on lips, Fine shimmer adds shine and makes lips look plumped up, Not drying
Cons: Not a fan of the packaging, Pricey
Who will like this: Anyone who likes sheer, light lipsticks, Anyone who wants a brighter shade and lighter texture of lipstick in their collection
For completeness, here’s how I wore Pamplelune.

Also wearing: Dior Eye Gloss in Tan, Chanel Joues Contrast blush in Espiegle, Maybelline BB Mousse
I realize this isn’t quite as bright as all that but it would be something I’d wear in hot or warm weather. When its hot, I don’t want to put on too much makeup and I tend to keep my makeup light, both in texture and in colours. The upside is that with a bright lipstick like Pamplelune, I can keep everything else simple and just brighten the face with this pretty coral grapefruit pink shade. Perfect oui? 😀
I’m going to check out the rest of the Lipstick Bandits now. I wonder what they have chosen for their “Summer Brights” lipstick? 😀

Have you checked out the Guerlain Shine Automatique lipsticks? Do you have a colour you think I’d like? Or have you perhaps picked up a Rouge Automatique? 😀 They have been out for a while and are permanent – whew! I was told that many people preferred the Rouge Automatique formula because its creamier and lasts longer and colours are stronger and more opaque. I can’t choose between the two but I will say that Shine Automatique has its plus points too, and makes one look younger because the colour isn’t so heavy 😀

Very pretty shade! But I’ve just bought a rouge automatique in Bloom of Rose. I got it when Guerlain had a buy 1 lippy and get a Shine Automatique lippy free and I shared the deal with a friend. I paid SGD20.50 for it, now you make me regret not buying more then!!
hehe just an observation, you also featured a Guerlain lippy in your previous lipstick bandit look. 😉
Wow wow! Buy 1 get 1 free, how cool is that?! 😀 since this is permanent you could wait for the next promo too hehe… And I didn’t realize it but you’re right! I have featured a Guerlain Rouge Automatique last. Guess I’m that huge a fan, huh? 😉
I think you are the biggest Guerlain fan that I know of. 😉
