Bag lust: The Dior Diorissimo day bag almost makes me want to break my ban

May 20, 2012 Paris B 51 Comments

I have been very good with my bag ban this year. Its already May and I haven’t bought any and that is seriously something for me to be proud of LOL! Not to say that I haven’t been tempted of course. You know how it is. The minute you put yourself on a ban, suddenly things come into your radar that you may never have considered before.

A classic example is the Diorissimo bag. I was in blissful ignorance of it until a fellow bag fiend gently nudged me in that direction. Incidentally, just before she did all that nudging, I had come across a magazine featuring the Diorissimo from the Cruise 2012 collection, and my eye was immediately drawn to the picture. It was a small one and I could have missed it, but I didn’t. Tells you a lot about my roving bag eye 😉 Then in the latest Female magazine (I believe) I came across a whole page of it – Gorgeous indeed!

So anyway, bag friend and fiend and I went to the local Dior store at Starhill Gallery to check it out (Just looking!) and was floored when we were told that viewing and purchase was by appointment (Edit: For now until it’s officially launched then it’ll be available on shelves as per normal). Whoa! Still, the SA was kind enough to indulge us and I had my chance to paw at this gorgeous beauty.

I like what Dior has done with the Diorissimo bag. Instead of going with their signature cannage quilted leather, they instead went for a smooth calf leather exterior, with a mind bogglingly simple design that simply looked elegant and chic.  I’m a bit tired of all that signature touches and of quilted bags. Too overdone, as far as I’m concerned.

The Diorissimo is a hand held tote that you can sling on your forearm but that’s about as far as it will go. I personally prefer rolled handles to flat ones but the design is such that the handles sit flush against each other so there was a bit of thought in that. There is no zip but a hook to hold it close if memory serves me right. But it stays closed anyway due to the way it is made so there isn’t much worry there unless you are prone to leaving your bag lying around unattended. In which case, WHY??!! 😛

The beauty of the Diorissimo and what sets it apart is the contrast leather. The interior is lined with soft calf leather in a contrasting colour to the exterior. The colour combinations are beautifully matched and the feel of the leather is sublime. The bag is structured but not stiff, so it will slouch a little, and there is a complementing strap so you can sling it.

I love both these colours here, but my preference lies with the Caribbean Blue. Just look at the turquoise blue shade! I don’t have a bag in that colour. I have to remedy that once my ban is over LOL!

It can’t be a Diorissimo though. Locally, the Diorissimo retails at a cool, whopping RM14,000 but I can’t remember if its for the medium or large size (It comes in 3 sizes) *gulp* I need to start buying lottery tickets. Dior stores are apparently a bit tight fisted with this design so viewing and purchase is by appointment only. Wow. (for now prelaunch. Post launch its available on shelves as normal)

Do you like the look of the Diorissimo? I love it. I love how sleek it looks, yet how soft it is when it slouches as you can see in the 2nd picture. Who knows what happens if I ever end up in Paris where prices are usually a bit lower eh? 😉 Ahh… one can dream can’t one? 🙂

Am I supposed to tempt you here? Make you buy it (you know, you do that to us enough!), slowly cave in… should I? No, I’ll be nice, you’re doing too well to fall off now! At the end, you’ll find something you like better! Well, it is pretty and summery… and it matches the eyeliner and nail polish from the summer collection!

So anyway, bag friend and fiend and I… That made me laugh. It sounds like the fiend was an extra character that accompanied you (like a little devil tempting you ^-~). Kill the little devil! Kill temptation!

So, going to Paris anytime soon?

Hey Leila, you evil person you! 😀 The only way you could possibly tempt me is to tell me it costs half the price where you are, and erm… that you own it and love it hehe… I’m just lusting over it for now like a good little girl while saving my money for some bigger investments 😉 No plans to go to Paris for now although the temptation is always there!

I loveeeee Dior handbag. But the price will make me broke. I can take it if the price lies between RM5000-RM8000, but seriously RM14000 is just too much sobssss… But when it comes to Dior and Chanel, I like their quilted flap bag better because it looks sophisticated and elegant. Would loveeeee to have it for my hantaran kahwin. Well, one can dream. hahahaha…

Bag fiend and friend of yours sounds quite a character 😛

I still don’t get how pretentious it is that you need an appointment to VIEW the bag. It’ll be part of the regular collection and will be on display soon enough, what’s the big deal, honestly?

I do have to give them credit though for a really well-designed bag. So glad they’ve moved away from the cannage stitching that has been done to its death. I’ll be glad if they can leave the stitching alone for a bit. The clean and sleek lines of this bag is really to-die-for. But, you’re right, there’s no zip and only a metal button clasp. Also, having tested the bag, the charms cling-and-clang like a cow bell as you walk 😛 That bit sort of bothered me because I run a lot for public transport ><

Oh yes, that fiend is most certainly a character! 😉 I think Dior just wants to create that sort of artificial demand and prestige – that you can own it before everyone else does. Works for me though LOL!! I have one of the bags with the charms and you’re right, it clangs a lot. However, as I told you, I wasn’t happy with the leather on mine after a lot of use and abuse so I’m putting Dior bags on the backburner when it comes to purchases, but will still lust after them from afar 🙂

Ugh *trouble*… Look at that Carribean Blue one. Why oh why does it have to cost a vehicle??? Love that it’s gone slouchy rather than the old stiff and prim proper. You are right, the quilted leather (and Chanels 2.55 for that matter) is so done.

Haha… that is the tactic before the launch. Once its launched which should be soon, and available on shelves then its for sale just like everything else. I was very amused at how the SA was treating it like it was such a huge priceless secret, even taking us to the back room where it was more private, to view the bags. It was fun though 😀

You know what you should do? Walk into Dior, ask to see the bag, fondle it and then tell the SA you’ll think about it 😉 The experience is priceless! Once it goes on sale officially, it’ll be sold like every other bag on the shelves, so there’s no need for an appointment then 😀

Hi UB. I’m a huge fan of the Varina flats and I can’t imagine life without them. They really pull your outfit together. Be very wary of fakes on eBay though. I’ve seen quite a few. 🙁 They are very extravagant but if you can get someone to help you pick a pair up from Europe/HK or even the US, it’s a lot better. Hope you find your dream pair 🙂

Yes, it does looks a little casual (as it is slouchy too) if you sling over your shoulder. However, if you hand carry it, can be formal too 😀 Kill two birds with one stone 😛

The interior is more like microfibre lining though 😀

I thought the Stellar PM is the perfect size but when I try it in person, the GM suits me more than perfect 😀

i love the smoothness of the leather and i am glad that they didn’t do this in the cannage. I have the Dior Panarea and indeed the metal pieces does clink around alot. I think the leather would be prone to scratches though.

i have just placed myself on a ban too after getting a furla candy, hermes jypsiere and prada gauffre nappa leather wallet this year. =X

but i am soooo itching to go to europe. *slaps hands*

You’re right! The orange does have a bit of an Hermes vibe about it 🙂 The leather is so smooth and supple its crazy! Being calf leather, I think its much hardier so scratches will add to character instead of look scruffy like how lambskin will. It sounds like you have picked up some very very nice bags – Hermes Jypsiere! Jealous 😉 Thanks for the price in Europe. Tempting! 😛
