Your Say: Is there a popular cosmetics brand that you just can’t get into?

April 24, 2012 Paris B 108 Comments

popular cosmetics brands

Ladies, we get bombarded left and right everyday through advertising. Lately, whenever I watch TV (only terrestrial channels) I’ve noticed popular skincare brand SK-II stepping up their commercial game. I can’t watch TV without once seeing their ad for the Facial Treatment Essence of the Cellumination Pixel White essence.

I am however, quite immune to the brand, popular as it is. Nothing they say could even vaguely pique my interest or get me to use the products. I used to use the products so I can speak from experience. I just could not get into it at all which is why I wavered and looked elsewhere. Ditto MAC Cosmetics. Try as I might (and I have been trying especially hard in these past 2 years), it is not a brand that interests me at all. Sorry, lovers of MAC. I just can’t!

I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this so I’m curious if most of you have this sort of numbness towards some popular cosmetics brands too?

Playing at dolls with the Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara

April 23, 2012 Paris B 60 Comments

Lancome has just launched their Hypnose Doll Eyes mascara locally and you might have already seen lots and lots of reviews online that rave about how perfectly dolly looking your eyes can look with this mascara on your lashes. The conical brush reaches for all the smallest, shortest lashes, and the formula gives length and curls your lashes, fanning them out so you look like you have… erm… doll eyes.

Interestingly, I believe the Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara was available worldwide last year (2011) actually. I did wonder why we weren’t seeing it locally. But I digress. You know, I read up and down the internet about how lovely and wonderful a product is, and when I don’t experience that sort of skies lifting, angels singing, sunlight streaming, raise your arms in the air and say “Hallelujah!” moment, I feel a bit…. upset.

I guess you know how I feel about the mascara now.

I did not have that skies lifting, angels singing, sunlight streaming, raise your arms in the air and say “Hallelujah!” moment that everyone did.

Hate Ironing? You Need A Garment Steamer In Your Life!

April 22, 2012 Paris B 80 Comments

I don’t know about you ladies out there, but if there is one household chore I hate… and I mean HATE! … its ironing. I’d sooner mop the house and wash bathrooms than iron my clothes. I’d sooner dress in knits than cotton shirts and dresses.   I’d sooner hire someone just to iron my clothes, if I had the means to. You get the general idea. I hate ironing.

A few years back however, I purchased a contraption that hasn’t made me love ironing clothes any more, but it has made me tolerate ironing just a little bit better. Enter the clothes steamer, or garment steamer, however you want to call it.

You might have seen this contraption in boutiques or the fashion departments in departmental stores. I used to notice it but I never quite thought about buying one for myself. It was only when I was chatting to a friend who used to own a boutique, that she pushed me into buying one – the best investment you can ever make, she told me. Know what? She was absolutely right!

Scrumptious Saturday Vol. 9 : Something Uniquely Malaysian

April 21, 2012 Paris B 20 Comments

The focus of my Scrumptious Saturday posts thus far have been mostly on food of Chinese origin because that’s what I eat most of on a daily basis. However, living in Malaysia where we have cultural dan racial diversity, our food too is culturally diverse. I love my spicy food and I’m always on the look out for a good Malay food stall or an Indian restaurant. Today, I’d like to introduce you to the Mamak “Nasi Kandar”.

mamak food kudu bin abdul nasi kandar

Mamak are Malaysian people of Tamil-Muslim descent and the food is usually similar to the Indian style with liberal use of spices and curries in their cooking. “Nasi Kandar” lit. “Rice balanced on a pole” originates from the days when hawkers would carry their wares in large pots on a pole which they balance on their shoulders. What Nasi Kandar really is, is steamed white rice with a variety of foods and curries.
