Everything’s coming up roses with the REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Nourishing Body Oil

April 26, 2012 Paris B 29 Comments

A little while ago (ok ok a LONG while ago), I told you that I now almost exclusively use body oils instead of body creams, butters or lotions. I find that they absorb so much better and my skin feels so much better too but you can read all about my thoughts in my previous post. One of the body oils I have been using for a while now, is this one by REN Skincare.

ren moroccan rose body oil

You can see that I’m about halfway through this bottle of the REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Nourishing Body Oil which is such a mouthful I don’t know where to start. So I’ll call this the REN Moroccan Rose Body Oil. This one’s a pricey number but even with quite regular use, I’m not going through it like water so I think it a lovely splurge (or if you are preparing a gift wishlist y’know… 😉 )

The oil itself is a deep yellow and has a viscous quality to it. Its not thick or sticky or icky or anything and the viscous quality means that it spreads more easily on the skin.

ren moroccan rose oil glass bottle

Like all REN Skincare products, the primary ingredients and bio actives are listed right on the front of the label so you know what you’re getting. In this case, its Rose Otto Oil, Ceramides and Phospholipids. It comes housed in a lovely sturdy glass bottle (have I mentioned just how much I love my skincare in glass bottles/tubs?!) with a pump. The pump dispenses the right amount each time. The nozzle of the pump could do with a bit more design work though. The oil sometimes drips down it so I usually hold it horizontal and pump so I don’t waste the oil.

I use 1 pump for each limb which gives it a nice coating of thin layer of oil that absorbs very quickly. If you want to be really economical about it, pump 1 pump into the palm of your hand, spread it between your palms to warm it up and then apply to your skin – 1 hand for each opposing arm.

ren moroccan rose label description

Which brings me to the scent and ooh! This is one the nicest scents ever! The oil smells of fresh roses. If you have ever buried your nose in a bouquet of fresh cut roses, or stood in a rose garden filled with blooming flowers, you will know the sort of scent I mean. Its the scent of fresh roses after the rain. Its lovely and very relaxing just before bed.

I like my lavender body oils before bed, but sometimes, I go for this one instead and its lovely and luxurious in scent and feel. Its like sleeping on a bed of rose petals and waking up with lovely smooth skin all over. Ahhh… 🙂

In a nutshell

The REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra Nourishing Body Oil is a lovely body oil made with the essential oil or the Moroccan Rose. Rose essential oil is one of the most expensive to obtain due the number of flowers you need to get a decent quantity of essential oil, so this one is quite a pricey number. The oil feels viscous but it spreads easily on the skin and absorbs very well without leaving skin feeling oily or sticky at all. I will say that this makes a luxurious treat!

Pros: Lovely fresh scent of roses, Oil feels luxurious and lovely on the skin, Not oily or sticky, Absorbs quickly

Cons: Pricey, The oil sometimes drips down the nozzle of the pump

Here is the ingredient list for those who are interested.

ingredient list

The REN Moroccan Rose Otto series comes with complementing body lotion, body wash and bath oil. I’ve tried the body wash and although its much raved about by many beauty editors worldwide, I was not too impressed by it. This body oil however, isn’t much talked about, but I love it and I will happily replenish when I’m done. I might have to sell a kidney for it, but I’ll do it! Ok, that might be a bit drastic so I won’t. But I will get this again when I’m finished (which won’t be for a while yet). So put this on your wishlist for birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, self rewards… you get the idea 😉

Have you tried this REN Moroccan Rose body oil? Or have you tried anything from the REN Moroccan Rose Otto range of body products? I am always a little iffy about rose scents because they can get very cloying and powdery but this one’s very lovely so I think most of you will like it too! And erm… I’m not responsible for any rumpy pumpy that might ensue k? 😉

You’ve described it so vividly I can almost smell it from here! The price is really shocking though 🙁 does this get on the sheets? I used a body oil from body shop once and all it did was to make my bed greasy!

Ahhh the lovely scent of fresh roses 😀 Nope, this oil does not get on sheets at all. It absorbs into my skin quite quickly and doesn’t leave marks on my sheets. I hate it when oils, creams or lotions get on my sheets. Yuck!

You make it sound so appealing!! When you said you’d sell a kidney for it I was expecting it to cost around RM500-RM800. When I saw RM220 I breathed a sigh of relief. Can buy-lar, if one can spend RM250+ on make up or 15ml eye cream, RM220 for RM100ml isn’t too bad right?? But yeah, if you’re comparing it to the price of other body oils, it IS expensive! 😛

LOL Yes by comparison, its pricey but on its own, its not that bad. I think I’d buy this over similarly priced makeup… ooh did I just say that? 😉

haha enabling is what I do best 😛 Body oils are great – I find them so much better than lotions or creams and aren’t as heavy as you might think. Try it but not necessarily with one so pricey 😉

Ah ok, I really detest applying lotions so oils are great maybe because of the nice smell from essential oils too hehe

When you say Nourishing, is it synonymous to Moisturizing? And isn’t it difficult to use body oil in these heat of summer? Isn’t it sticky at all? As well as the other body oils that you tried?

Nope, the nourishing element is because the oils and ingredients in this oil helps cell turnover of skin so you get softer skin. Especially useful when I have rough elbows or knees. Its not hard to use these oils at all even in my tropical weather. I sleep in an air conditioned room so that might be why I don’t feel it. But I find that it is less oily, better for my skin and smells so much better than body lotions or creams 🙂

I sniffed this in a shop just a couple of days ago and loved it!!! I like natural rose scents. They are less powdery/grandmotherly that way. It’s definitely something I have on the wish list 🙂

Its lovely right? The smell just sucks me right in, and I’m not even that much of a fan of rose scents to start with! 😀 I hope your wish list gets satisfied soon 😉

I never use any body oils before. I usually use body lotion only. And body butter, I had a weird funny incident with that one, so I’m avoiding it since then. haha.. In your opinion, which one is better? I’m eager to try one too but the price really… *died* Do you know any good body oil that is cheaper than this? >.<

I never liked body butter because its so sticky and icky in our weather. Lotions are fine but I find that I only really like Nivea body lotion and no other. I find lotions and butters tend to have very strong heavy powdery scents. Body oils have lighter scents and for me, feel nicer on my skin. I’m still trying different brands of body oils now so I don’t quite know yet if there are good and cheap options. I will keep looking for sure. The other thing about body oils is that they use essential oils, and good essential oils are expensive which explains the price. The up side, you don’t need very much so it lasts. Once I find an affordable and good body oil available locally, I’ll be sure to share 🙂

The price really is a stumbling block but its a good oil so I will have to find ways to repurchase 🙂 Buying it online helps me sometimes, because of the extra discounts and loyalty discounts or sometimes, if there’s a special discount or something. That’s how I got this at under RM200 🙂
