I had a bit of craving during the week for paper wrapped chicken. It is quite literally as the name implies – marinated chicken, wrapped in paper and fried.
I’ve tried a few places, but the one I usually end up going to because I like the taste of theirs is at Soo Kee Mee, at their original stall in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, in a corner coffee shop, under a big tree 😀
I learnt once by mistake, that the paper wrapped chicken is only available for dinner so do take note if you decide to take a gander down one day to try these succulent goodies served unceremoniously still wrapped in the paper for you to delve into.
The other thing this shop is famous for is the beef kway teow noodles.
The flat rice noodles are covered with a lovely eggy sauce and lots of fresh beef cooked to perfection – soft yet cooked and generously portioned. I’m sorry if the picture looks terribly unappetizing. Some delicious foods don’t photograph well 😛
Prices are a bit high now so this is an indulgence instead of an everyday delight; but I’ve decided that its a place I’d happily bring visitors to should they visit me here in KL 😀 I suggested this place when Nikki was here and I think she enjoyed it even if she eats like a bird 😉
Its a no frills joint, and you can’t linger there but I’m happy to sacrifice comfort for good food, and I hope you are too! 😀
Does anyone know of other joints selling delicious paper wrapped chicken? Its surprisingly hard to find.
Now, who’s coming to visit me in KL then? There’s delicious beef noodles (ho fun) and paper wrapped chicken to be had! 😉
Happy scrumptious weekend!

There’s definitely better food in Malaysia, even though there is a lot of good food here too. I like paper-wrapped chicken. =D
Paris B says
Teehee Jyoan, I’m not getting into the comparison else I’d be terribly biased 😛 If you are ever in town, do try to check this place out. I promise you’d like it if you enjoy paper wrapped chicken 🙂

I’ve never tried paper wrapped chicken before coz there’s soooo much to eat in penang XD Plus I don’t really like to eat chicken,I’m a veggie girl =)
Paris B says
Paper wrapped vegetables wouldn’t be as nice 😛 I haven’t been up to Penang in a while but there’s loads of good Penang food down here already so I’m not missing very much anymore 🙂

I <3 eating out – I feel like I'm on a discovery trip, trying to find good local food (besides mama's cooking – the best food ever!). Since I haven't got the time to blog my foodie's finds, I post them all to Foodspotting. I must say the paper wrapped chicken looks incredibly delicious, as for the other dish…. I don't think I would eat it anytime soon.^^UU
Paris B says
I love exploring places with good food too! Can you believe I have no idea what Foodspotting is? 😛 I’m going to check it out 😉 The noodles look awful but much less so in real life and its incredibly delicious. If you are ever in my part of the world, holler! 😀
Mari Ohira says
Foodspotting is a food finder app (there is a web version too) – people upload their foodie photos there. Do check it out! 😉
Ahaha, maybe when I go there I’ll try some noodles! 😀
Paris B says
Thanks for the info on Foodspotting. I’ll take a look 😀

And dont forget their famous Sang Har Mee. 😀
Paris B says
oh yes, they are very famous for that too! But I don’t eat that because I’m not a fan of Sang Har Mee and I find it too exhorbitant 😛
Applegal says
Oh this place! I’ve had their sang har mee and beef noodles before. The first time I had it was good, some how the 2nd time wasn’t so fantastic 🙁 I remember the beef noodles was going for RM9 and the sang har mee was RM30+?? Didn’t know they have paper wrapped chicken!
Paris B says
The sang har mee is a bit of a rip off I feel so I never order it. Way too expensive for what is to me average tasting noodles. Next time you go, order the chi pau kai 🙂
beetrice says
oh I remember this place – the paper-wrapped chicken was delicious (and so was everything else we had!)…so err, when are we going again? 😛
Paris B says
Haha our eating list is getting epic!
