I enjoy eating Japanese food – who’s with me? 😀 I’m always on the look out for good Japanese restaurants but sometimes, I don’t feel like sitting down too long waiting for my food, or I just want a quick take away. Here’s one of the places I like to go to – Sen-Ya at Isetan KLCC.
I’ve been there a couple of times. It isn’t gourmet Japanese food, but its quick, not too pricey, and hits the spot. I was there just yesterday when I went to check out the reopening of the new Isetan KLCC beauty floor (its really impressive now!) and stopped for a quick lunch after *ahem* a spot of shopping 😀
Sen-Ya has ready packed dons and sushi as well as sashimi and I personally find prices quite affordable. You can opt to eat in or take away. This Salmon Sashimi Don was RM17. The salmon was reasonably fresh and portion size was, I thought reasonable enough.
Yesterday, the kitchen wasn’t ready so there was no hot food available to order. Otherwise, you can order bento sets off a set menu, again at relatively reasonable prices especially during the lunch hour.
Here’s a seaweed udon with chicken katsu I had for lunch on a previous visit. I can’t remember the prices now though.
Its Pork-free for those who might be wondering 🙂
Oh and for my pains (to my wallet that is) I received a cupcake from Isetan. It was a gift for Isetan Members above a certain amount purchased. Ahem 😛
Do you reckon that thing looks like a lipstick? Its what its supposed to be! 😛
Do you like eating Japanese food? Do you have any recs for affordable quick but good Japanese food around KL? I’m always up to discovering a new place. I have a few tried and true restaurants I go to but am naturally up to try something new 😀

Scrumptious Saturday : One day in a week where I dish out random scrumptiousness from my other love – food!
I love Japanese food! I used to eat at Sushi King a lot, but recently they use sake in some of their food, so I can’t eat there now because it’s not Halal anymore. I’ve eat some bento at KLCC foodcourt aft that. It was good but nothing beats the Sushi King because my taste buds are already used to Sushi King. Till now I didn’t find any good and Halal Japanese restaurant. Japanese food in Jusco or Tesco is just consumable. I won’t die eating but the taste, bleghhh.. <.<
I must say that to a large extent, I will have to agree that its hard to find a Halal Japanese restaurant mostly because most of them will serve Sake. I wasn’t aware that Sushi King puts Sake in their food – I wonder why? If you don’t mind that its not stated as Halal but Pork-free, there are a couple of Japanese restaurants in town one can eat at and for a quickie, Sen-ya is a good place to go 🙂
yup- it’s very hard to find halal japanese restaurant- (_ _”) but to define halal, it is should not only by just being pork free- the are also other matters that need to be taken into consideration such as the food preparation-
well- it is said that most of japanese cousine are using mirin (type of rice wine similar to sake) as ingredient/seasoning/flavouring or whatever it is called- 😛 so wine-based ingredient is also not halal according to islamic law-
and also, it is important that the meat used in a meal, should be slaughtered in proper ways and according to the islamic ways of slaughtering animal for food- else- the food will also falls under the category of non halal-
there are also some other thing to take note about- but this 2 points are one of the important things to look into to self-check the halal status of a food- and of course- having a halal food served on a plate or with a utensil that had been previously used with a pork-based meal is also something that must be avoided-
nwy- this is just as checklist on how to determine a restaurant is halal or not, incase you might want to invite your fellow muslim colleague to a japanese restaurant (or any other restaurant that is claimed to be pork free but havent got the halal jakim status, though some muslims depends almost 100% on the jakim halal status-) 🙂
friendly regards,

Japanese food is my achilles heel when it comes to food – salmon sashimi in particular. I can’t look at photos of that without getting a craving! Thank goodness I already have plans for Kampachi tonight then!
LOL!! How fortunate you already have plans for a Japanese dinner! 😀 I haven’t been to Kampachi in ages – are they still as good as they used to be back in the day? I used to go for their weekend buffets and stuff myself with sashimi 😛
Just got back from dinner and I’m devastated to report that it was a huge disappointment. Then again, I’m speaking of the Kampachi at Penang Equatorial and I have no idea how it’s counterpart down south is doing. It used to be one of the best places to go for Japanese in Penang but as it stands, I’m actually considering never going back there simply because the variety and food quality doesn’t justify the RM92++ price tag.
The only items that were up to par (or close to being) was the salmon sashimi and the fresh oysters. The worst section was the grilled seafood. They were all overdone resulting in the seafood being dry and rubbery. The red tuna sashimi was completely tasteless.
Sigh … I’m sad. I used to look forward to dinner at Kampachi 🙁
Ooh I hate it when you anticipate a good meal and are disappointed 🙁 I haven’t been to Kampachi in a very long time. Stopped going for buffets because I realised that the quality of fish is not the best and I don’t eat very much anymore so now I go for ala carte which us a little pricier but you get better quality 😉
Ooo did you buy the Lunasol set in the end? I gave it a pass in the end since I didn’t want the eyeshadow at all, and not so much the loose powder. I went yesterday for Isetan, but in the end only stepped into the supermarket for a short while 😛 Blew all my money in Sephora and Topshop hehe
Haha yes I did. I did want the brush anyway so I figured I might as well get the whole set because I do like Lunasol palettes. What did you end up getting at Sephora and Top Shop? 😀
UD Naked 1 & 2 (2’s for a friend though), UD 24/7 liquid liner (this is the best thing, EVER. The pencil version sucks for me, smudges within 30 minutes, but the liquid one is practically a tattoo!), Topshop’s cream and powder blush (no thank’s to beautycabby) and a highlighter 😛
My shoulder still hurts from carrying everything around! (I used public transportation)
But those aren’t that heavy what 😛 good buys all the same. The urban decay pencil smudges something awful on me too hence the reason I’m not into them no matter what anyone says.
It is when you include 2 huge boxes of Meiji plain crackers, one big box of Panda biscuit my sister loves plus my usual arsenal of wook+water+to-go baglet hahahahhaha. I always wonder how ppl can tahan bringing around only a tiny bag, I need a huge one at any time xD
LOL!! Ok now that would make my back ache too 😀 I don’t get small bags either. Bigger bags are bad for my back but at least I can fit most of my stuff in there, plus I’ve never found a small bag that could fit my wallet 😛
I’ve taken away a few things from them and they are pretty good. I love the food halls in Isetan KLCC now, definitely a huge improvement from that tiny cramped space they had on the top floor.
Just yesterday evening I had dinner at Tonkatsu (think that’s what it’s called) at Pavilion and it’s not bad too. They specialise in a few porky dishes and le hubby was a pretty happy boy after eating there 🙂
I love the new food hall too! At least now its a food hall. Before it was just a supermarket 😀 I do notice that for the most part prices went up as well. Boo! I haven’t tried Tonkatsu but I will give it a go next time I’m at Pavilion. I never know what to eat there though I enjoy going to Suki-ya 😀
Lol, I would have gone to Isetan Beauty Floor just to get a glimpse of you Paris! My office is at Twin Towers…which I am really grateful for because Isetan, Parkson, Braun Buffel, Kiehl’s, Starbucks and the list goes on…are just 60 floors away from me. The Japanese food in Isetan is quite good and value for money, especially when we’re going through crunch time at work, packing the Japanese goodies as express lunch at my cubicle is not so bad after all.
How was your Isetan haul yesterday? I saw the beauty treats leaflet and was mighty impressed with the new counters and the rest revamped into full fledged service counters. Jolly good 🙂
LOL Jennifer, that would have been fun! Maybe if I’m there next time I’ll tweet it 😉 I think if my office was in KLCC or the Twin Towers, I’d die. Or rather, my wallet will die. The temptations are endless! 😛 Although I’m sort of jealous that you work on the 60th floor. Can I just say O.M.G?! What a view! I picked up just 2 items actually – the Kanebo Lunasol set and the Chanel eyeshadow palette. Am very impressed with how Isetan Beauty Hall looks now. At least it actually looks like a Beauty Hall and not a cramped department store 😀
Yep, please tweet about it the next time you’re in KLCC. 🙂 Yes, you’re right about the temptations part! Last Friday Anya Hindmarch had a private event and since French Soles was part of them, they offered 20% discount on top of the RM100 vouchers some people received via mail. I was there with a girlfriend, but I didn’t succumb. I didn’t quite fancy paying RM400-500 for a pair of full leather ballerina flats. But those were cute and comfortable though. You know what, seeing how my girlfriend bought a pair of French Soles so quickly as opposed to me still considering whether to buy the Luciana Rockport – it makes me feel like I am wasting time thinking lol.
Aww, though you’re jealous of me working from level 60 (admittedly with a good and useful panaromic view on clear or rainy days to check on traffic condition) but when it comes to fire drill exercise, it’s totally not cool or fun anymore 🙁
Whee, can’t wait to see your FOTD with Lunasol and I am quite smitten by the Chanel palette too! 🙂
Can I just say that the chanel palette is gorgeous? I’m wearing it today and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised 🙂 I’ll bring a review soon. I was told its only officially available at counters in April. As for working on the 60th floor, let me guess. you’re too busy to enjoy the view or you only peer out when it rains to see how bad traffic is? Hee hee…
I’d heard of french sole before but I didn’t know it was so expensive! Pity about that 🙁
I was there yesterday lunch time too! Beauty hall I meant. I got myself the Lunasol set and the an eyeshadow from Burberry called Pale Barley and then hopped off to Sephora. KLCC is evil haha. Stila is available in Sephora now. What did you buy?
Yay! With you, me and Gin getting that Lunasol set, we just need to see if there are 17 more readers who did hehe… I didn’t go to Sephora (I never seem to be able to gel with that store) but thank you so much for news of Stila coming back here. Did you pick up anything from them? I used to like their eyeshadow singles 🙂
Yes I did. A couple of their eyeshadow singles. Could have done more damage but I kept repeating to myself “you have only one face” :p
Ooh I used to like their singles! I think I shall go dig mine back out.its been a while since I looked at Stila but its nice to know we have access to it now 🙂
I just ate at sen ya just now!!! Salmon shushi yum yum!
And thx to your fb thread ytd Paris!
I got my hands on the Kanebo set!!!! YAY! I chose the pink purple palate… Thinking of trying some sweet looks hehehe~~~ you bought the set?? Please share on which palate u have!!!! fOTD please~~~~~~
I added on until 400 with a makeup remover and cotton and I got a FREE full size gel foundation!!!! And lipstick whoowooo!!!!!
Totally worth it!!!!!
Ps: I got the exact same cupcake as u do! Lol. Didn’t know it’s a lipstick!!!!!
Oh snap, Gin! 😀 Isn’t Sen-Ya great for that quick bite of lunch? 😀 Glad you managed to get your hands on the Lunasol set too! Another reader LSY did too so now I’m wondering if more of us did hehe… Just 17 more to track down 😛 I got 01 the blue palette, because I knew I could never do anything with the purple and pink one but I’m sure it’ll look sweet on you! I didn’t top up to RM400 – wasn’t sure else to buy and the SA wasn’t very helpful. Kept pushing me expensive stuff and I didn’t want more skincare. If I’d known they had cotton etc I might have topped up! Boo!
Hi FIVe Paris!!!!
Well the service was actually surprisingly good! To be frank, it surprised me haha…. I guessed that was why I topped up.. maybe a different batch of sa were at the counter last night… Also maybe because there weren’t many customer in the morning…
.Ahh that blue palate!!! I ALMOST CHOSE THAT!!! Was A superdifficult choose since the blue is so nice… Plus I dont have a light blue palate.. Do share with us about it Paris! I wanna see u in those lovely blue <3
However.. the gel foundation is somehow the best product today! lol… Very light but has moderate coverage! But it may be a little drying…gonna give it a test run soon =)
I’ve heard the water gel foundation is quite good.I actually might have bought it prior to this. Got to go check my cupboard again 🙂 I’ll try to remember to take pics and use the Lunasol palette. I have a couple but keep forgetting to review them 😛
Ok, I want EVERYTHING from the photos!!!
Yay! 😀 Time to plan a Japanese dinner outing perhaps? 😀
It looks beautiful! 🙂 The sushi & bento sets picture at the top. ;9
Just as yummy as it looks too! 😉
