My Small but Perfectly Formed Shopping Haul: I’m getting better at not going overboard!

March 11, 2012 Paris B 75 Comments

The first trip I made to Hong Kong, I came home with half a Sasa store. I’m kidding. Almost. 😛

With each subsequent trip I make, my shopping hauls get smaller and smaller but comprise products I already use, need or that I actually want. *gasp* I must be growing up! 😛

shopping haul
  • Save

This time, I just picked up a couple of essentials in the Kose Softymo Cleansing Oil (I can’t believe my “essentials” come from Hong Kong 😛 ) and a couple more items I’d been wanting to have a go at. I know everyone loves snooping into others’ holiday shopping hauls but this is so small, its almost embarrassing.

There was my Sofymo Cleansing Oil which I’d read was being discontinued or getting hard to find even in Hong Kong. But happily, I found that it was still plentiful on the shelves of Bonjour (although I couldn’t find it in Sasa) so rejoice if you love this one too! I also bought a foaming variation too because it looked interesting. I love my Japanese cleansers 😀 I picked up a bottle of Bioderma Micellar cleanser because I’d read so many raves about it. Can’t quite make head or tail of it yet.

camper mamba
  • Save

I walked past a store that had Camper shoes on 50% off and picked up this bootie type shoe. I think its called the Mamba which is also a deadly snake – just in case anyone’s wondering 🙂 I loved how it looked and how balanced it was, plus the rubber sole had great friction which was quite perfect. Oh it was also very comfy and I’m thinking of taking this out for a longish walk to see how it fares. Its always useful to have a pair of good and nice walking shoes. I also learnt that for me, Camper shoes run small so I had to size up 1 size. Very useful information to file away for future online shopping exploits 😉

And finally, 3 items I’d set out with the intention of buying – L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows and more Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadows.

giorgio armani etk loreal infallible eyeshadow
  • Save

*Midnight Blue should read All Night Blue #06

I already own a few of both and you can expect some reviews to be coming up soon. Both the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill shadows (HKD250) and the L’Oreal Infallible shadows (HKD89)  have the same concept and formula – compacted loose powder eyeshadows that looks and feel like cream but apply like a powder. Its hard to describe but they are really good stuff.

And that, as they say, is it! Quite a perfect little haul for me, but quite a pathetic showcase next to some mind boggling hauls I’ve seen 🙂

Do you enjoy reading shopping haul posts? I realise its a bit of a filler at the best of times, but it is quite nice sometimes. Its that voyeuristic pleasure we get, rather like peeping into someone’s closet or room 😉 If you have used any of the above items, please share your thoughts with me? In particular the Bioderma Micellar cleanser thingybob. How would you use it?

the Bioderma Micellar cleanser is really amazing! the most gentle and skin friendly make up remover I’ve ever came across. I got mine from BOBODAVE online because it’s not available locally

LOL We are all guilty of that bit of voyeurism Tine! I like the occasional haul post but not if every post on the blog is a haul post. Seen that? Quite mind boggling 😛 And maybe we could organize a round robin whats in my bag post eh? Would be fun 😀

Yes! I do enjoy reading shopping posts! You probably already guessed, didn’t you? :p

Some sort of filler? Hmm… my blog posts are mostly of this type these days, as I still have so little time on my hands. 🙁

But I promise, my blog will ‘rise from the death’! Lol…

Oh, I hear so many good things about the Bioderma Cleansing Water. Comfortable walking shoes are absolute life savers, aren’t they?

Don’t beat yourself up Jess! At least your photos are very good and I’d rather someone post a haul post than nothing at all 😀 I”m sure you’ll come back to the world of the living but I’m glad to see your posts in between anyways 😀 I have to agree with you about comfy shoes. I have been looking for a good pair – I hope this is it although the heel is a bit too high for prolonged walks.

I try to be more selective but it’s hard, ya know. I have the Bioderma too and it’s pretty good (especially on lazy days). I should have stocked up in my last trip. Your shoes look very nice and comfy. When I travel, I have usually wear flat boots or if going somewhere colder, flat fleece-lined boots.

Gotta agree with you Lyn. Its near impossible to cull down all the wants and just focus 😛 The lucky thing is that this time, I had no temptations. Didn’t walk into any cosmetics stores till the last evening. I think I must have been ill… Do you just wet a piece of cotton pad and use the Bioderma as a makeup remover? I’m not sure if its that or a cleanser. I don’t plan to travel in these shoes to be honest. I prefer going with flat boots too!

I love my Softymo Cleansing Oils, and it’s all thanks to you Paris! The last time I went to Hong Kong, all of the Sasa’s I went to didn’t have any at all. I found a bottle at a smaller pharmacy. I remember telling you about that before; I was really sad. Now, I’m glad to know that Bonjour still carries Softymo, plus the heat protectant spray I get for my hair! 🙂

I spotted something I am interested – Bioderma – it was raved by Lisa Eldridge, the celeb makeup guru. I would wait for your review. How much is it?
and also would be interested to know how Loreal Infallible fares?

I find it very interesting if they have items in their hauls which I can’t get locally 🙂 I’ve been using cleansing oils for years and if you use makeup, its actually a very fuss free way to remove makeup. Do give it a try – there are lots of different brands available in the market!

I don’t mind if there’s a little bit of review inside a haul/ recommendation/ insight from another person about what is good, but only if I can get it too. hahaha.

I would skip those from the UK side, since it is unlikely that whatever cult brand they are raving about is sold here. US is better, because if I were really convinced that the other person’s Holy Grail product will suit me, I could get it online easily. And a good number of US brands come to Singapore.

I have been wanting to get Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill for ages… but can’t seem to find it. haha.

Oh oops! No review in this haul post hehe… I like seeing the various items people pick up from their travels. Doesn’t have to be beauty related, because some things are so unique. The GA Eyes to Kill shadows are really really nice but regionally I think its just Hong Kong that has the brand. You can try Strawberrynet but their colours are very limited and tend to be the less attractive ones.

HAHA! Its when you are on a ban that temptation rears its head the most. I’m on a bag ban and everywhere I turn there’s a bag out for my wallet. I’ve been good so far though *fingers crossed* That said, if you do get the change to get the GA or L’Oreal ones, I think they are worth breaking the ban for 😉

The Bioderma works well for cleaning off foundation, concealer, blush and brow products in a few wipes. I still prefer to use a separate eye makeup remover for the eyes though as the Bioderma can’t remove waterproof mascara well. It’s great also for cleaning up minor makeup mistakes, say if you put on foundation and discover it’s the wrong shade but don’t want to remove all the makeup you’ve already done, like eye makeup. I still use a facial cleanser after using Bioderma, out of habit to make sure my skin is really clean. It works pretty much like the Bifesta Cleansing Express cleansers that you can find in Watsons.

Ooh thanks for the tips Haru! 🙂 I was experimenting with using it as a makeup remover but although my skin felt lovely and soft, it didn’t feel all too clean and you’re right. It did nothing for waterproof eye makeup! Will try it out a while more and see how I like it 🙂

Am very happy with the Campers shoes – always wanted a pair but would never pay full price for them! 😀
