Scrumptious Saturday: The Start of Some Scrumptious Randomness and Random Scrumptiousness

February 25, 2012 Paris B 34 Comments

Alright, fact is, I sort of miss posting on Saturdays 😀 But I decided it will not be all about beauty all the time because a whole week of it is more than enough for you to go through at your leisure 🙂 Instead, I’ll TRY to do a weekly post on something good or interesting that I ate in the week. If food isn’t your thing, sorry but its mine 😛 Or I might just post something random but scrumptious. Basically, Saturday is for me 🙂

Simple Blogging Tips: So you want to be a beauty blogger? Here’s 10 + 2 Tips to get you started

February 24, 2012 Paris B 96 Comments

10 starter tips for beauty blogs

In what seems to be a bit of a coincidence, I recently received a slew of emails with questions relating to blogging. The predominant theme that stood out was “How do you get a successful and popular blog?” and I must confess that I was stumped.

You see, when I started out back in 2007 it was not with the intention of becoming a successful or popular beauty blog. Back in the day, there was no such thing. People laughed at you for wasting your time blogging, and they would say “You write about beauty products? Why? Who would want to read it when there are magazines with prettier pictures?” But I stuck with it anyway because I was having fun and enjoying writing for fun instead of for work and well, as we are all now aware, things have moved on. About 2 years after I started blogging, it exploded with a cosmic bang and here we are.

But I know there are some of you who may be wondering the same thing as those who have written in, and I thought I’d share some tips to get you started. I hope they are helpful and if you blog, I’d love for you to share anything that I might have missed out on 🙂 If you’re an avid blog reader, do share too what you enjoy seeing in the blogs you read and we can all aim to improve 🙂 (please settle in for a read – its long 😛 )

Wear flowers in your hair and spritz Melvita Floral Water on your skin for a refreshing soothing treat

February 23, 2012 Paris B 37 Comments

I used to read a lot about floral waters in cosmetics, in particular rosewater and lavender water. It has been used in cosmetics for a very long time to freshen and soothe the skin and is quite possibly the origins of what we now know as toner 🙂 I’d never really tried them until I came across the ones from the French organic brand Melvita.

Can I just say up front that I absolutely love the impractical heavy deep blue glass bottle packaging? I love it! Its heavy and if you are the klutzy sort, you could quite easily let it slip through your fingers and have it smash on the floor. But I love it nonetheless because it lends an old world charm to my skincare routine.

Plus, the waters are a really very nice treat for the skin 🙂

I’m A Malibu Barbie Girl in a Barbie World with Hot Pink Lips by Face of Australia Lip Quench Lipstick

February 22, 2012 Paris B 42 Comments

Here’s an interesting fact. If you try to look up pictures of Malibu Barbie you will realise that Malibu Barbie actually wears a baby blue swimsuit/playsuit/ whatever they make Barbie wear. Not a slick of pink on her. Not even her lips. Don’t believe me? Fire up Google and see 😉

So I found it very fascinating that Face of Australia named a bright pink lipstick Malibu Barbie. It most certainly is barbie pink and is most certainly one of those bright lip colours that make you go “Er… I’m not sure I can pull it off. Its so PINK!” <- Its this sort of pink!

But Tina (Chasing Elixir) tells me I have to try it because its surprisingly lovely on so after a spell, I did. Was she right? I hate to admit it but yes she was. The Face of Australia Lip Quench in Malibu Barbie looks really quite scary in the tube. Its a hot pink that I thought pulled cool and that is quite scary because these sort of colours can really wash you out and make you look like the walking dead. Add to the fact that I’m not much of a pink lipstick wearer, preferring my roses, berries and reds. But there are times when you want to branch out of your comfort zone, and pink is a pretty girly colour with which to do so.
