New: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters Are In Town – Are you going to pick them up?

February 3, 2012 Paris B 100 Comments

I had been reading so much about the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters on overseas blogs. The raves have been outstanding! These have been hailed from everything from the best lipsticks ever to the best tinted lip balms. Quite a large contrast there don’t you think?

Well ladies, the Revlon Lip Butters are finally here in Malaysia so we can work out for ourselves if they are really all that! 😀 I spotted these only at Watson’s pharmacies for now retailing at a pocket friendly RM25 each (I found out they are S$15.90 in Singapore – quite a bit more pricey after conversion!). I looked in a couple more pharmacies but didn’t see them – I’m told they are only officially due here in March 2012, so I guess Watson’s got a special preview or something 🙂

I have here 3 colours in different ends of the colour spectrum to try out. Barring the red one, the other 2 are quite a challenge but I intentionally picked up Strawberry Shortcake (pale pink) because I wanted to challenge myself to wear something out of my comfort zone! 😀

This post just serves as notification and a preview for now. I didn’t have time to try them out properly yet so I can’t bring you a proper review.

Left to Right: 070 Cherry Tart, 080 Strawberry Shortcake, 030 Fig Jam

These Lip Butters from Revlon are a balm-lipstick hybrid. Moisturizing lipsticks with medium pigmented colour and a light balmy feel on the lips. They have even been compared to the Dior Addict Iconic Lipsticks which is really saying something. I’ll try to bring a comparison post some time 🙂

Here in Malaysia, we will get 8 shades and I quickly tested them at the counter to see which ones appealed to me, and what the colours actually looked like on the skin as opposed to a computer colour swatch. You will just have to rely on my linguistic observations and descriptions, since I don’t have swatch photos 🙂

020 Brown Sugar – A nude brown tone that swatched on my skin very light (I wasn’t attracted to this because it just looked like glossy lipbalm on)

025 Peach Parfait – A shimmery sheer peach (I wasn’t attracted to this because the shimmer was chunky, the colour was sheer and the texture did not feel as smooth as the other colours)

030 Fig Jam – A deep brown that applies sheer and on lips turns into a sheer berry. A surprise colour choice and one I have been liking!

070 Cherry Tart – A bright cherry red that applies more pigmented than the others with a balmy texture and noticeable shimmer

075 Lollipop – A grape shade that like Cherry Tart applies more pigmented than the others and has no noticeable shimmer. Texture is balmy.

080 Strawberry Shortcake – A sheer pale pink that applies semi pigmented and is a very fresh girly shade on the lips. Texture is balmy with no noticeable shimmer

085 Sugar Plum – A deep plum shade that applies semi pigmented and has no noticeable shimmer, with similar balmy texture.

096 Macaroon – A deep red with balmy texture and semi pigmented colour. The colour is quite close to Cherry Tart but a little deeper.

Based on early observations, I noticed that some colours have noticeable shimmer in them which come off a little chunky and the texture of the lipstick feels a bit gritty. Peach Parfait gets a lot of raves and I was interested in it but it looked washed out against my skin and the gritty shimmer put me off it so I’d likely never get it.

I also noticed that some colours are more sheer than others – Brown Sugar, Fig Jam and Peach Parfait apply like a tinted lipbalm. The rest apply like a balmy moisturizing lipstick so take your pick accordingly.

I will bring a proper review soon but with the long weekend ahead here in Malaysia, I thought you’d better have a heads up so you can all descend on Watson’s and clean them off their Lip Butters, like a cloud of locusts 😉

Are you planning to pick up a Revlon Lip Butter? Which colour are you eyeing? Have you too been swayed by all the raves about the Revlon Lip Butters from overseas? 😀

Update: Review on Strawberry Shortcake and Fig Jam and what I think of the Lip Butters here.

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters come in 8 shades in Malaysia Price: RM25  Availability: Watson’s Personal Stores now and all leading pharmacies and Revlon counters from March 2012

Ah I was at Watsons KLCC but couldn’t find them today. I’ll try my luck in other big Watsons and see what I can get. I’m interested in Fig and Sugar Plum but I already have Clinique Black Honey which sounds similar. Macaroon is a great one provided it’s got a bit more of a blue base (couldn’t really tell from the promo pictures) – don’t want no yellow teeth!

I got mine in Watson’s Pavilion KL. How strange that KLCC didn’t get them in yet! Fig is very nice much to my surprise. I don’t have Black Honey and I never quite fell into that hype LOL! I think both reds are pretty neutral bordering on cool so you should be safe.

Argh I wrote a whole long comment and it didn’t register. Long story short – I’d love to try Cherry and Macaroon. Was interested in Fig and Plum but the color description sounds like what I can get with my Clinique Black Honey. Also was in Watsons KLCC but couldn’t find them today. Might try my luck again next week!

OMG they’re finally here! I dont know why but I kind of expected that they won’t be marketed here in Malaysia cause we hardly get the good stuff *cough Benefit Big 10* but now they’re here I can’t wait to try them out! I imagine I would wanna try out Fig Jam. Got SPF right this balms?

Its not just you Biianca – I felt the same way too! So when I knew that they were coming in, I was quite pleased. I just expected them to come in March, not this early 😀 I’m afraid there’s nothing to say that these contain SPF so I’m going to say no.

I think Revlon makes some good products 🙂 They could work on their eye colour ranges, but they are pretty good in other departments 😀 Can’t wait to see what you think of these when you pick them up 😀

Oh wow. I didn’t realize it could be an irritant! Thanks for letting me know – its interesting because so many things have Tocopheryl Acetate in them.

At least I think it is an irritant to ME personally – it could be something else that usually goes with Vitamin E in lip products, but I don’t know for sure.

It’s crazy how many things have Tocopheryl Acetate in them – on one hand, it’s annoying that there are a lot of lip products I can’t use and how I only have a few things I can use without problems; on the other hand, I save myself a pretty penny not buying these products. 😛

The good thing is, you know its an irritant so you can safely stay away from products containing Tocopheryl Acetate. The down side is of course, your choices are severely limited 🙁

RM25? Really?? I got ’em for RM28.90 each at Guardian Midvalley yesterday. I knew I should have waited for Watsons to bring the Revlon Lip Butters out! But nvm, I managed to score a lip brush, an eyeliner and a bag organizer for free from the Revlon lady at the counter as I was like constantly asking her for the testers of the different colours as she was still unpacking the items from the box and haven’t even started on the display. Yes, I am that shameless. lol

Yes I got them for RM25 each at Watson’s (regular non-promo price). I was told the RRP is RM25 too but I’ll check it up just in case there’s a mistake? Which colours did you pick up in the end? And I laughed at the image of you harassing the Revlon SA!

I managed to pick up Macaroon, Cherry Tart, Peach Parfait (HATE IT!!) and Sugar Plum. I pretty much like all the colours with no glitter particles in them so buying peach parfait was a total blonde moment for me. It must be the name, I was totally hungry at the time (lunch hour and I was busy scourging all the pharmacies in MV trying to find the lip butters), and the image of layers peaches, yogurt, whipped cream floating in front of my eyes pretty much sold me. I really should have picked up fig jam. I didn’t even swatch the shade but based on your raves, it must be good.. 🙂

Hahaha Never shop on an empty stomach! 😀 But yes, the minute I saw Peach Parfait, I swooped on it to test and immediately chucked the tested back because it was awful! I don’t know how its so popular… maybe its because it looks so pretty on Emma Stone in the promo pic 😀

Hmm, have seen certain people say these aren’t worth the hype. So I really don’t know.

Plus, the colours are not exactly special. haha, I think I already have so many similar ones.

I don’t really like the old black Revlon in the same casing design.

But being a faithful Watsons patron, I’ll definitely check it out!

Yup! Its about 90% rave with 10% dissenters 🙂 I’m reserving judgment for now but I have some thoughts already. The colours aren’t special, that’s true but its a nice way to ease into lipsticks for those who don’t like using lipsticks regularly.
