The Lipstick Bandits Wish You A Happy Sparkly New Year!

December 28, 2011 Paris B 42 Comments

Ladies, we are just a few days to the end of 2011! Sqeee!! 😀

The Lipstick Bandits have come up with some ideas for creating a festive lip this year end so if you have a New Year do to attend and haven’t planned your look, we have ideas for you! 🙂 I decided to take things down to the drugstore (or pharmacy as we call it 😉 ) and source you an affordable Holiday combination. I realize not many people dare wear the red lipstick outside of special occasions and less so a sparkly lip so finding something affordable is a good thing 🙂

sparkly lipstick for the holiday season

We were tasked by the Lipstick Bandit Head Honcho to wear a red or berry red (to be honest, I only read red hence my choice :P) and a sparkly overlay, the more sparkly or glittery the better. Unfortunately, sparkly and glittery aren’t quite in my lip vocabulary and I did want something affordable so I trawled the pharmacy until I came on this by ZA which I’m afraid has to do.

The choices I picked were the Revlon Colour Burst lipstick in True Red and the ZA Plumper Lip Gloss in 06 Whitelights. Here we go 🙂First off, here are the swatches so you have an idea what they should look like 😛

revlon true red and sparkly za lipgloss

Left to Right : Revlon ColorBurst lipstick in True Red, ZA Cosmetics Plumper Lip Gloss in 06 Whitelights, ZA Whitelights layered over Revlon True Red

I’m afraid it did not come out as sparkly as I hoped it would. The ZA Plumper Lip Gloss in Whitelights is quite pretty actually. It has these fine glitter sparkles in it that add a pretty silver-gold shine and it is clear so it sits well over any lip colour. It will lighten your lip colour a little, but that adds to the shine bit. Its quite tacky but isn’t sticky if anyone knows what I mean 😛 It doesn’t glue my lips together and the pretty glitter sparkles last so I’d say that for something I picked up on a whim from the pharmacy for just RM27+ its quite a find! 😀 I’ve reviewed the Revlon True Red previously so you can read the review on it 🙂

And here’s a side by side comparison so you have an idea how it looks.

holiday red sparkly lipstick

On its own, the Revlon True Red is a smooth TRUE red lipstick with a bit of shine (it isn’t matte) but it isn’t glossy either. One layer of ZA Whitelights gloss over and ooh boy! See that shine? 😀

holiday red sparkly lipstick on lips

See it? 😛 This close up is just to prove that yes, there ARE sparkles and glitter… its just not too sparkly or glittery from afar 😛 True Red is truly a red for the holidays – a bit too much in the day but under warm lights it really comes into its own.

Finally because I’m a narcissist that way (wouldn’t be a blogger if I wasn’t 😛 ), here’s the complete look I did.

Also featuring: Clarins Everlasting Foundation – Almond, Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit, Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette, Diorblush Vintage Pink, Shu Uemura Hard 9 eyebrow pencil

And here’s Revlon True Red topped up with the ZA Cosmetics gloss.

Care to give this a go? You can easily find Revlon and ZA Cosmetics at our local pharmacies and there could be discounts going on right now 😉

If this isn’t something you’d fancy, do check out what the other Lipstick Bandits have for you 😉

I’ve loved my time with the Lipstick Bandits and learning about their blogs and getting to know these awesome ladies and I can’t wait to see what more sneaky bandity things we’d get up to in 2012… involving lipsticks of course 🙂 Happy sparkly New Year everyone! 😀

psst: Let me know if you decide to give this kick-@$$ lip combo a go! 😀

What a pretty and classic look! I’d love to rock that look for New Year’s Eve, but the makeup police in my family (erm, the parents) are there. So gotta stay a bit quiet heh heh ^.^

Omigosh! This combo is divine! The lipstick is gorgeous on it’s own, but the lipgloss just takes it up a fun notch or two! Gorgeous as always, dear! 🙂

Perhaps if a Brit red doesn’t do it, go for a brick red. It’s deeper and less attention grabbing and usually very flattering to most. There’s a red for everyone! 😉
