Ladies, we are just a few days to the end of 2011! Sqeee!! 😀
The Lipstick Bandits have come up with some ideas for creating a festive lip this year end so if you have a New Year do to attend and haven’t planned your look, we have ideas for you! 🙂 I decided to take things down to the drugstore (or pharmacy as we call it 😉 ) and source you an affordable Holiday combination. I realize not many people dare wear the red lipstick outside of special occasions and less so a sparkly lip so finding something affordable is a good thing 🙂

We were tasked by the Lipstick Bandit Head Honcho to wear a red or berry red (to be honest, I only read red hence my choice :P) and a sparkly overlay, the more sparkly or glittery the better. Unfortunately, sparkly and glittery aren’t quite in my lip vocabulary and I did want something affordable so I trawled the pharmacy until I came on this by ZA which I’m afraid has to do.
The choices I picked were the Revlon Colour Burst lipstick in True Red and the ZA Plumper Lip Gloss in 06 Whitelights. Here we go 🙂First off, here are the swatches so you have an idea what they should look like 😛

Left to Right : Revlon ColorBurst lipstick in True Red, ZA Cosmetics Plumper Lip Gloss in 06 Whitelights, ZA Whitelights layered over Revlon True Red
I’m afraid it did not come out as sparkly as I hoped it would. The ZA Plumper Lip Gloss in Whitelights is quite pretty actually. It has these fine glitter sparkles in it that add a pretty silver-gold shine and it is clear so it sits well over any lip colour. It will lighten your lip colour a little, but that adds to the shine bit. Its quite tacky but isn’t sticky if anyone knows what I mean 😛 It doesn’t glue my lips together and the pretty glitter sparkles last so I’d say that for something I picked up on a whim from the pharmacy for just RM27+ its quite a find! 😀 I’ve reviewed the Revlon True Red previously so you can read the review on it 🙂
And here’s a side by side comparison so you have an idea how it looks.

On its own, the Revlon True Red is a smooth TRUE red lipstick with a bit of shine (it isn’t matte) but it isn’t glossy either. One layer of ZA Whitelights gloss over and ooh boy! See that shine? 😀

See it? 😛 This close up is just to prove that yes, there ARE sparkles and glitter… its just not too sparkly or glittery from afar 😛 True Red is truly a red for the holidays – a bit too much in the day but under warm lights it really comes into its own.
Finally because I’m a narcissist that way (wouldn’t be a blogger if I wasn’t 😛 ), here’s the complete look I did.

Also featuring: Clarins Everlasting Foundation – Almond, Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit, Urban Decay 15th Anniversary Palette, Diorblush Vintage Pink, Shu Uemura Hard 9 eyebrow pencil
And here’s Revlon True Red topped up with the ZA Cosmetics gloss.

Care to give this a go? You can easily find Revlon and ZA Cosmetics at our local pharmacies and there could be discounts going on right now 😉

What a pretty and classic look! I’d love to rock that look for New Year’s Eve, but the makeup police in my family (erm, the parents) are there. So gotta stay a bit quiet heh heh ^.^
Thank you Hanny! So, what sort of colours did you wear for NYE in the end? I stayed in so, no red lips anyway lol!
I -might- be wearing Smashbox Sangria lip stain with MAC Pleasure Principle 😛 Might.
I’m sure you keep hearing this but you can really pull off a red lip very well! Gorgeous! 🙂
BTW Happy New Year 2012 Paris! 😀 Have a sparkly one! 😛
Thank you Stephanie 🙂 did you sport your Sangria combination after all? sangria is a gorgeous shade and will fade prettily under a gloss 🙂
Omigosh! This combo is divine! The lipstick is gorgeous on it’s own, but the lipgloss just takes it up a fun notch or two! Gorgeous as always, dear! 🙂
Thank you Danielle! True Red is such a beautiful colour but I’d forgotten about it till this challenge so I’m very pleased to rediscover it 🙂
Wow u look gorgeous with the lipstick, this is definitely a wise buy for New Year parties 😉
Thank you Rane 🙂 this is a beautiful colour but I can imagine, a bit bold. May work for CNY too 😉
Beautiful! I might just go for a sparkly red lip on new year’s eve too. Thanks for the inspiration Lipstick Bandits!
Thank you Denise and I’m pleased we help make up your mind about the NYE red lip! 😀
You sure do rock the reds my dear! But like Hanny I doubt my parents will let me wear such a colour 🙁 sigh the woes of being seen as a child in your parents’ eyes!
Thank you Sukie 🙂 my parents had to get me to put on makeup once. I think they’re regretting that now lol!
Luv tat last pic of yours, absolutely ravishing! Happy New Year all!
Thank you Ching 🙂 happy new year!
Eeek Paris how gorgeous are you? I love the red lipstick you chose, and the gloss, too. But more the red lipstick. It’s perfect on your skin tone. Just stunning, really. 🙂
Thank you Arianne 😀 I’d totally forgotten I had this shade and only rediscovered it while organizing my stuff. Thanks to all of you for giving my the opportunity to use it 😀
Pretty pretty! I love the red of this Revlon against your skintone! It’s perfect! The gloss makes it all shiny and awesome. 😀 I love your eye makeup, too!
Thank you so much Larie 😀 I can imagine this shade would look pretty awesome against your skin tone too 🙂

Thank you Tracy 🙂 and yes I wanted to pick a colour that was affordable and easy to get for most. I hope you pick it up at a sale or another because I think you’d rock it! 😀
Good choice on True Red! I was actually gonna go with that as well :).
Great minds and all that jazz :p. Haha! It looks gorgeous on you, lovely!
Yay for great minds 😀 you should have and we could have been lipstick twins 🙂 thanks Dani
Happy sparkly New Year to you too! I absolutely love the look, the sparkles are so floaty and delicate and the red *kasdjfdskla oh my goodness*
I actually bought that lipstick last week, so now I definitely need to pull it out and play!
Thank you! I was very pleasantly surprised by the lipgloss and how delicate it all is 😀 can’t wait to see your look with True Red 😀
You look like a classic 40’s movie star!
Wow, that surely is a compliment 🙂 thank you Jamilla!
Oh my, that is so pretty! I never really thought of mixing sparkles with red and am now tempted to try 😉
Wouldn’t have thought about it either, of not for this challenge 🙂 give it a go Lyn!
Red like POW!!! You are rocking that combination. I’m inspired by you to try red lips at least once in the coming year.
Thank you Peach!! Yes, do a red lip this year. You may never look back 😀
The red looks so shiny ~ and good on you :D! All ready for a red CNY :P?
Thank you and yes! Will sport this for CNY too 😀
True Red is truly a classic red and and the touch of sparkles are winking at me. What a playful combo!
The sparkles just turns things up a notch doesn’t it 😉 I was pleasantly surprised
*squee*! True Red looks great on you, but I LOVE it with that gloss overtop. It just looks so chic & plush! /flails
Thank you Rae! Yours was the plush lip. It looked like pillows 😀
I am one of those who find myself odd with red lips. LOL. I love sparkly though. Was fun checking out all the other bandits, I must say!!
Perhaps if a Brit red doesn’t do it, go for a brick red. It’s deeper and less attention grabbing and usually very flattering to most. There’s a red for everyone! 😉
What a beautiful combo, you are rocking it! Red lips look gorgeous on you!
Thank you Gio!
