The Lancome Golden Hat L’Absolu Rouge Rose Absolu (No. 365) can be worn 365 days a year

December 23, 2011 Paris B 40 Comments

When I told you about the Lancome Golden Hat collection for Christmas this year, I also told you that we weren’t getting Caprice lipstick, which is a bright, bright red that I was eyeing. With that, I lost my interest, I have to admit. Then one day, the L’Absolu Rouge lipstick in Rose Absolu (No. 365) landed on my desk.

lancome golden hat lipstick

The limited edition packaging of the L’Absolu Rouge lisptick features a golden imprint of a hat and Kate Winslet’s signature. However, the rest of the packaging is the same – magnetic cap and all. It got me curious to see if the formula of the lipstick would be the same. You might recall that I actually like the Lancome L’Absolu Rouge lipsticks 🙂

Here’s a comparison picture to show the packaging of the Kate Winslet lipstick and and the regular L’Absolu Rouge lipstick.

lancome golden hat compared to rouge l'absolu

The colour I received is No. 365 Rose Absolu which is quite a deep looking red in the tube. I mean, look at it. It looks very very gorgeous! I couldn’t wait to swipe it on.

And then I did and suddenly, meh.

Well ok, not meh as such. Its a very lovely emollient formula that applies quite sheerly. Layer it on and it will deepen, but it isn’t lovely right off the bat. The good thing however, is that its that sort of colour you can wear all year round, to the office, to a party, anywhere!

swatch

It almost feels like a balm. Not exactly moisturizing, but not drying either and lips feel very comfortable with it on. I will have to admit that I rather like this, despite it not being quite the deep sort of red I’d normally go for, if I were wearing a red lip. However, I’d happily wear this as a daily lip and it will satisfy that. It will even serve as an introduction to red lips, if you’re still on the fence about whether or not you should go down that route and are wondering just how much wear you can get out of your lipstick. My answer would be – all 365 days 🙂

In a nutshell

The packaging is limited edition but I’m not sure if the colour is (Note: The colour is available in the permanent line without the special packaging). No. 365 Rose Absolu is a lovely shade of sheer red that slicks on your lips like a balm and keeps them from drying out. It brightens up the complexion and is a good introductory red lip. It can also be layered for more intensity. Even if you don’t manage to get your hands on No. 365, there are lots of other colours in the L’Absolu Rouge range to check out. The texture is sublime and definitely worth having a tube or two in your stash.

Pros: Light texture, Sheer colour isn’t scary for those easing into a red lip, Feels like a balm, Not drying

Cons: This colour is limited edition, Colour is a bit sheer but can be layered

Here’s a shot showing how I wore and would wear Rose Absolu – with a neutral eye and just slicked on once for a day look.

Also featuring Dior Couture Golds eyeshadow palette, Dior Blush Vintage Pink

Not scary red at all right? 🙂

Would you wear a sheer red like Rose Absolu? Do you own any Lancome L’Absolu Rouge lispticks? I like them for having a lovely balm texture but some might just say its expensive lip balm LOL But then, they say that too of Dior Addict and yet, I’m addicted 😛

I thought about it when I was walking around and I really don’t really need another lipstick. The compact, though, that’s tempting but I don’t really need another blush. Also, the offer stands, happy to pick some items up for you if you want to from this end of the world 🙂

My heart went: “Ooooo!!!” when I saw how pretty the red was in the tube. The fact that it was sheer was a bit anticlimatic, but I would wear it every day 🙂

I know right? It looks AMAZING in the tube but when swatched, its a bit disappointing. Well, unless you already know that its going to be sheer, then you won’t be disappointed 😀

I think it’s a permanent color? Otherwise, there’s number duplication – cos I know there’s a No. 365 in Lancome’s regular range of lippies (I’ve been eyeing it). But the tester I saw in Sephora has more pink tone, not a red as your pix. #konpius

Thanks for the heads up. I looked around and apparently, it is a permanent colour so I’ve edited to reflect that 🙂 Seems like just special packaging for this one. I don’t see pink in this though, just a straight red with blue tones (good for teeth whitening 😉 )

Though sheer, it looks good on you! That’s the sort of red that I’d wear! For an SE product, the price isn’t obscene 🙂

Thanks Connie and yes, I could see you wearing this one now that you’re getting braver 😉 Its the regular price of the Lancome lipsticks which I’m thankful for. I dislike it when brands jack up prices just because its limited ed. or special packaging.

Its not quite as red as some other colours I’ve worn 😉 But if you’re looking to break into the red lipstick category, I think this is a good one to start with because it applies sheer so its not scary at all!

Great effortless red on you! This is why swatches and reviews are so helpful…I wouldn’t have guessed it’s sheer, either.

Thank you Peach_ and yes, swatches and real life experiences are very helpful (thank goodness for bloggers!) I was wondering from your comment if you’d been reading the whole debacle surrounding bloggers, magazine editors and commentaries over in the UK! LOL 😀

LOL There was some hoohah over a blogpost by a makeup artist turned blogger who slammed some beauty bloggers for being unprofessional and commented on “hairy armed swatches” that serve no purpose. The post got the thumbs up from some beauty editors of magazines including Cosmo UK so bloggers got upset online. I’m actually wondering how our local beauty eds feel about it (although we don’t have a large enough blogger pool to threaten, I’m guessing) 🙂 That was it, in a nutshell.

Cute! I actually like sheer lipsticks to wear at the office. These days I’ve taken to a berry lipstick that I use very sparingly so to make it sheerer and people always compliment me when I use it (L102 by Ellis Faas).

I love the colour and the look, they remind me of Labello’s Cherry lipbalm, that had been my favourite for years…
But that’s also a con – if I can find a lipbalm that gives me the same look for 2 euros (and gives me 14% more product + works like a balm), why would I want to spend 7 times more money?

I’d love to have seen a bit more pigmentation.

With so many non-luxury brands stepping up their game, I look to the luxury ones for something special.

Thank you. The colour is substantially more pigmented than a lipbalm but yes, if a lipbalm will serve your needs, it would make more sense to look to the stronger, more pigmented lipsticks. Most brands have ranges with sheer and opaque lip colours and in Lancome I believe the Colour Fever line is much more pigmented.

I love this color! I have Shiseido Tender Sheer in Natural Red, which is similar. (I LOVE Shiseido lippies and don’t think they get enough love. I had one when I was younger and remembered how amazing it was…once I remembered the brand I couldn’t wait to get my hands on another.)

I absolutely love it. It’s great for everyday, doesn’t just scream “hey look at me!” and I have no fear of it wearing off in odd ways (it wears off but doesn’t look at all atrocious when it does) so I can eat and drink with confidence. 🙂 Plus really smooth and comfortable to wear.
