Styling Romantic – what a pretty name for the Laneige Christmas collection. Granted, Christmas was yesterday, but the items in this collection are quite easily wearable all year round.
The upside to this collection is that it is affordable. A lot more affordable than many brands out there which would have made this a good gift (if I’d gotten round to telling you about it BEFORE Christmas 😛 ) or for yourself really if you heave yourself down to a Laneige counter. I actually like 1 item in this collection that I think some of you will too.
The Styling Romantic collection consists of an eyeshadow palette in very wearable neutral browns, a blush palette in 2 tones and a lip duo in 2 shades.
The blush I have is the pink-purple shade (Styling Romantic Blusher 1) which, when mixed applies a cool pink on the cheeks. Its actually quite sheer and I found it a little bit too sheer and needs layering. There is a brush included under the blush pan, which is a nice touch. There is another warmer orange toned blush in the collection for warmer skintones. The shimmer is in the lower 2 colours and very minimal so if you like something that isn’t too overwhelming nor too shimmery then this is one to consider. You can adjust the shade and shimmer, depending on how much colour you pick up from each quadrant.
The eyeshadow palette is a trio of shimmer tones of beige, tan and brown.
The colours are very light and sheer (what you may expect from Korean brands) and although I’d like to tell you that the sponge applicators are useful, they aren’t. I’d rather they used brush applicators because the sponge just couldn’t deposit colours properly. If I had to depend on these applicators, and disliked shimmer, I wouldn’t like this palette because the applicators deposit shimmer and little colour. If you use a proper eyeshadow brush, you will be happier with the result. The colours may be used for the day (works very well for a day look) but for the night, you will need the help of a dark eyeliner for emphasis. The dark brown isn’t dark enough to use as an emphasis colour.
The surprise for me was the Styling Lip Duo in SYR34 Coral Beige. Surprise win!
The Styling Lip Duo is a pen style, with a coral toned lipgloss at one end, and a crayon style lipstick in the other. The colour is described as coral beige, which isn’t too far from the truth and I am quite happy to say that this is one to get for a very pretty everyday sort of lip. The texture is nice and smooth, not sticky and not drying and good value overall.
The swatches are pretty self-explanatory I reckon 🙂
In a nutshell
An affordable range of products provided you are happy with the texture and colours. The packaging looks quite pretty but feels a bit brittle and plasticky. For the price point however, I will not complain. The colours are for the most part sheer and tend to the shimmery as is quite common in Korean brands. The texture of the powder products aren’t as fine as what I’d get from other Japanese brands but again, at the low price point, I cannot complain. The winner for me however, is the Styling Lip Duo which is smooth when applied and the lip gloss isn’t too shiny nor is it sticky. They can easily be worn alone or together and I think is the best item in the Styling Romantic collection.
Pros: Styling Lip Duo is surprisingly nice in terms of both colour and texture, Affordable and pretty makeup if it suits your taste
Cons: Limited Edition, Eyeshadow palette is a bit too shimmery and colors are rather warm, Blush colour is a bit sheer but buildable
And here’s how I’d wear the items in this collection. Is it styled romantic? 😛
As you can see, the colours for the eyes and cheeks are relatively sheer but will work for a day/work look. Personally, I do think you can do better unless of course, you like the colours and really, at that sort of price point, you could do worse! However, the lip duo is very nice – it gives a lovely smooth lip and the colour Coral Beige is one of those colours you just cannot go wrong with. If you plan to try one item, get the Lip Duo. I don’t think you’d regret it 🙂
Did you check out the Laneige Styling Romantic collection? There is another pink shade in the Lip Duo (bestselling colour in Korea yo!) and you can see it on Xin here.

It’s a shame that the eyeshadow colors are so sheer. The packaging’s pretty! I’m still worried about the bubblegum pink lip color. Wonder how I can make the color work
Paris B says
The shadows didn’t wow me and the blush too. I think its the texture in general but the lip colours are nice in texture. In the case of the pink, I’d suggest dabbing it on, and then applying a nude lipgloss over.

Oooh nice! Can’t wait to check out this range in a few days in HK. I’ve actually never tried Laneige cosmetics…but I do like their skincare stuff.
