Scrub-a-dub! L’Oreal Perfect Clean Refreshing Foaming Gel Wash with Scrublet

October 13, 2011 Paris B 42 Comments

I was clearing out my shower caddy when I remembered I’d not blogged about this L’Oreal Perfect Clean face wash. I don’t think its available here in Malaysia but I have seen it in Singapore so that’s the nearest place to go to if you want to get this. Mine was from Superdrug in the UK.

I picked this one up because I’d remembered reading some good reviews about it, and in particular, about the Scrublet. I think I really just wanted it for the scrublet 🙂 What’s the Scrublet you ask? Its that white piece of silicone that you see in the middle of the bottle. Its not so clear from the picture above though.

See it now? 🙂 This is a round piece of soft silicone, with little “spikes” all over it. Its not hard at all and isn’t abrasive on my skin. I like to call it my “manual Clarisonic” because it actually operates quite like one!

The face wash I purchased was the Refreshing Foaming Gel Wash which come in the blue bottle. It is very refreshing and leaves a tingling feeling on my skin after use. However, to be perfectly honest, I don’t think much of the face wash at all. Its just a regular face wash to me, and other than the fresh cool feel, I don’t think the face wash special at all.

But the Scrublet however, is really nice!

Its not too big, and not too small and it fits nicely in my hand. There’s a sticky out bit at the back, which this silly billy didn’t take a picture of, which allows you to hold it between your index and third fingers. You can also stick it on a tile or mirror. It actually feels really soft against my skin which was quite unexpected. It wasn’t abrasive or anything. Just had a nice “scrubby” feel.

The instructions say you are to squeeze the gel cleanser on the scrublet, and then use it to massage or scrub your face. I tried it a few times, but this Perfect Clean gel cleanser is really runny so it wouldn’t stay on the scrublet long enough without dripping down my face. I solved this problem by applying the cleanser to my skin and then using the scrublet. Works much better!

I mentioned above that this is like a manual Clarisonic and to a large extent, it is. The scrubby motion exfoliates dead skin, and dislodges blackheads so my skin feels a little bit smoother. Its not as efficient as the Clarisonic for sure, but it does the job pretty well! I’ve given my Clarisonic Mia to my sister for now (for whom it seems to work very well) and am using this Scrublet a couple of times a week in its place.

In a nutshell

The gel cleanser is light and leaves a cool refreshing feel on the skin. Its nothing special though. The silicone scrublet manually exfoliates dead skin and dislodges blackheads and works quite well to leave the skin feeling smooth. I use it these days 1-2 times a week with any regular face wash.

Pros: Silicone scrublet is soft and not scratchy or overly abrasive on the skin, Scrublet helps skin feel smoother and helps dislodge blackheads, Can be used separately from this cleanser

Cons: Other than the fresh feel of the face wash, there was nothing special about it

Interestingly, the reason I was tossing this out is not because I’d finished it up, but because unbeknownst to me, the flap closure had broken and had dislodged itself so this cleanser had been slowly dripping it away out of the bottle to its doom. By the time I noticed, it was empty save for the Scrublet.

So I’ve since tossed the bottle, but am still keeping the Scrublet because there is lots of use left in this one yet!

Have you by any chance used this one before? Do you use a manual exfoliator like the scrublet? I believe you can get similar silicone face brushes from places like Daiso. I haven’t tried those so I can’t say how they fare, but I really like this Scrublet 🙂

L’Oreal Perfect Clean Refreshing Face Wash retails at £4.99. It is also available in Singapore but unavailable in Malaysia at time of writing.

I bought a scrublet almost like the one you have (except it’s pink) from Watsons about 3 weeks back as I wanted to use it to remove any residual cleansing oil and leftover makeup off my face at the end of the day before I use my Clarisonic. For something around RM25, the scrublet is quite good. It manages to take of all traces of makeup as when I use my Clarisonic after it, the brush head won’t turn brown (from my foundation) like it usually does before I introduced the scrublet into my makeup removing routine. Overall, if the scrublet ever does go kaput, I would definitely repurchase.

Woa RM25! That’s a bit too pricey. You can get them at Sasa or Wellness at a fraction of that price.

I like the feel of it too. Only problem is, not sure when we are suppose to replace them. I’ve been using mine for quite some time now.

Dang it! When I bought the scrublet I was like, Wow! So cheap! *grabs one and rushes to pay* But now, after reading all the comments on here, RM5 for the scrublet at Daiso (!!) and I got it for 5 times the price???!!! I feel like such a doofus now 🙁 But I can’t really kick myself to bad for it as I have never even been in a Daiso store and as for SaSa, I only go in there under the threat of death (LOL), so yeah… The lesson of this story is to always check other Malaysian Beauty Blogs before you buy a beauty item in hopes of avoiding getting conned. 🙂

Aww you weren’t conned, just over eager perhaps? 😉 I find that sometimes, when it comes to these cutesy things, try checking out Daiso first. The Japanese are at the forefront of cute technology!

I think if they don’t break or get lost, and are kept clean you can use them as long as you want 🙂

I do think these scrublet thingys are quite good for manual exfoliation although as others have pointed out, RM25 was a little pricey 😉 Still, I’m one to talk, having purchased a whole face wash on top of that! LOL

this clogged my pores and broke me out quite badly so i stopped. i have the strange combi of oily skin under the epidermis and drier skin on the surface so anything that massages will encourage more oil secretion from the inner layer of my skin and result in clog pores cos i have drier skin on the surface…

Scrublet is such a cute name! 😀 Just in case you want to know, you can get this easily in Australia as well. Priceline, Coles, Woolies all carry ’em.

BTW, I might not have mentioned this before but I’m terrified of overexfolliating and I hardly do it. 😛 Afraid of fine lines la.

I know!! I wanted this stupid face wash just for the Scrublet! 😛 I think I remember Tine talking about this once. Don’t bother with the face wash – waste of time IMO. I use this only once or twice a week. Learnt my lesson from the Clarisonic!

you can buy the scrublet from daiso too, but i bought mine in singapore for $2 so it’s cheaper.

i really like this, but i must remind myself not to use too much pressure while i scrub coz the clean feeling you get after rinse is kinda addicting. i sort of use it day and night the first two days and had to stop myself from continuing coz i don’t want to cause damage. now i use it every alternate day.

what movement do you use when using the scrublet? i use circular motion first and ended with few long downward strokes.

Actually I think its the same price at current exchange between the Daiso prices here in Malaysia and in Singapore 😀 But you are right. One shouldn’t apply too much pressure when scrubbing – it can lead to formation of lines too! I usually use a light circular motion and sometimes I concentrate on areas with blackheads or clogged pores. I only use it about once or twice a week 🙂

My lid broke off on the first day of using it! Ha! The packaging is pretty cheap and flimsy! But I do like the scrublet! Its not available here in the Philippines which is a shame cause the scrublet can be an alternative to the clarisonic which is not available here as well… I agree there’s nothing great about the cleanser the one I bought is one with salicylic acid now I think of it I dont like the cleanser.. It’s pretty drying and a bit harsh.. Everytime I use it, my skin looks dull and weirdly it looks darker! But it reduces the appearance of my pores though after use..

Posting for posterity because I like this photo 😆 Also hello! 😜

It’s interesting that when I meet people they always ask me “Are you still blogging?” which tells me they don’t read my blog anymore (cos if they did they’d know I am lol! Weekly generally, but still writing) Yet I don’t blame them because a lot of social credit is placed on one’s Instagram presence. This I fear, is an area I am lacking. I pop in every now and then, share stories that are totally unrelated to what people follow me for, then wonder why they unfollow lol! Other times, spider webs gather in the corners of my unused account. I don’t blame them. Not everyone wants to know what my dogs are up to 😜

Anyway I make no apologies. It’s ok if you follow. It’s ok if you don’t. It’s ok if you’re interested in stuff I do. It’s ok if you’re not. Life goes on for both you and I and ultimately, we just both want it to be happy. So do what makes you happy 😊 I’ll still share my beauty finds and I still blog once a week. I may share what I’m up to from time to time, or I may not. I can tell you that I’m keeping busy and that I have a lot on my plate, none of it glamorous unlike that of most content creators/influencers. It’s too boring for most for me to share here so I’ll just share the good bits - as Instagram intended 😂

But if you want to find me, you’ll know how 😊
