Daiso stores are like Aladdin’s cave of treasures. Amongst the strange things you find in there, you sometimes find gems. I’m terribly pleased to see the Daiso store in Pavilion KL because that means I can now visit more often! I don’t go down to The Curve much so I’d been out of the Daiso scene for a while. Ah, but I’m back! 😀
Daiso, for the uninitiated, is a Japanese 100 Yen store. Or in this case, a RM5 store. Everything in store is RM5 whether you like it or not and everything comes from Japan. I love going in there to look at the storage because next to Ikea, they have the best (and cheapest) storage options – baskets, drawer dividers, boxes… Do not be like my friend who came up to me, held up a pack of pens and said “How much do you think this is?” The look I gave was pure incredulity 😛
I’ve got here some interesting, cute, fun and quite useful stuff you could pick up just for a fiver, and some of them are even beauty related 😛 Yeah, I know. Wow 😛
This one isn’t beauty related though – a Milk Tooth Box.
Its a little box that comes in a few different designs even flat round boxes, for you to keep your child’s milk teeth after they drop out or are extracted. Perhaps this is something cultural in Japan? I have only heard of the Tooth Fairy but she didn’t expect the tooth to be placed in a box I’m sure. However, as the label suggests you can also use it as a trinket box for very small items e.g. earrings or a ring.
Oh here’s another strange item – Adhesive Ear Clean Stick.
This is something for, well, cleaning your ears! There is actually a whole selection of ear picks in Daiso from some really cute ones topped with dollies to fancy ones that look like hair chopsticks to well, this. At least its hygienic? *shrug*
Oh and yet another strange but potentially practical item – ear caps.
These disposable plastic caps look like shower caps that you get in hotels, and are meant to just cover your ears. As the bag suggests, its useful for when you are dyeing your hair so your dye doesn’t stain your skin. But what about your neck and forehead then? (speaking from personal experience)
Ok the following 3 more items are more conventional and are beauty related 🙂
A Foldable Stand Mirror for just RM5. Perfect for travelling or if you have very limited space to live in and do your makeup. You can fold it so it stands up, and then open it up so you can store it flat. Practical stuff.
This one’s actually a display box. When you stand it on its side, you can keep little toys in each of the 4 compartments for display – you can see the little toy cars in the background. However, I had a brainwave and turned it so it lay flat and tada! Lipstick storage! Its bigger than the lipstick storage cases in the makeup aisle so I think this is actually better. Or it could be used for holding your trinkets or if you have just a small selection of cosmetics, your cosmetics. Just RM5 <- I sound like an ad 😛
And finally, a huge magnetic sheet for just RM5! I told you before you could look in DIY or hardware stores for magnetic strips. In Daiso they sell them in largish sheets that you can cut to size and its only a fiver for the whole sheet. Perfect if you depot your stuff. You can even write on them so you can label your colours and avoid duplicates.
The first item right at the top is a little metal mesh stand that you can use to hold your earrings. Just stick the earring hooks through the holes and it makes a pretty little stand for your dresser. I thought it very cute. It can’t hold a lot, but you can rotate your earrings as you go and not have them jumbled or kept away in drawers.
Do excuse the grainy spy shot photos – cameras aren’t allowed… but mobile phones are 😛
Do you enjoy going to Daiso as much as I do? Do you have a star Daiso find to share? Even if I buy nothing I enjoy traipsing down each aisle to see what is new, and what might come in useful for the home. I don’t quite do the cosmetics – I’m a little leery of it but I do look because sometimes, there are some really strange things available like the Nose Shaping powder for one 😀

Hello! Any idea where’s the best Daiso store in Malaysia? Best in terms of stock variety. 😉
Paris B says
Not sure abut that Jo. I only go to the one in pavilion because it’s easiest for me to get to it.
