Your Say: Do You Wash Your Hair Everyday?

wash hair everyday
  • Save

There are 2 schools of thought about hair washing.

The first school of thought says you should wash your hair everyday, especially if you are like me and live in a hot and humid climate. The scalp gets oily and if you live in a polluted area e.g. cities, then it could feel worse. So washing your hair at the end of the day gets rid of the oil and dirt on your scalp and therefore results in a healthier scalp.

The second school of thought says you shouldn’t wash your hair everyday, because that can lead to your scalp drying out, a flaky scalp, excessive oiliness and hair loss.

Which school of thought do you belong to?

I belong to the third school of thought – My own 😀 The third school of thought says do whatever makes you feel more comfortable in.

So in my case, I wash my hair everyday because it makes me feel comfortable. Also, I live in the tropics where even on the balmiest days, unless you are perpetually ensconced in an air-conditioned environment, you will still sweat and even when it dries, it can make your hair feel heavy, oily and awful.

But that’s how I feel. So I wash my hair everyday, because I figure. If I shower everyday to clean my body, why not my scalp? 🙂 In fact, I wash my hair everyday regardless of where I am, spring, summer, autumn or winter. Praise the Heavens for the inventor of the hairdryer 😛

Your Say: Do you wash your hair everyday? If not, why?

Hmm… that’s odd. I get that too sometimes at certain sites I visit. I’m never quite sure why – my plugin is up to date though. Wanna try resyncing your feed? (feedburner) it helped me 🙂

I don’t get very oily hair, but I guess I’m like the majority here – used to it so I feel uncomfortable when I don’t 🙂

When I’m in Muscat or a country that it hot and humid, I wash every day. When I’m in the UK, I wash it when it needs it.

I have to wash my hair everyday… My scalp is super oily… During my shorter hair days… If it’s a boy cut during school days… I wash everytime I bathe. So it’s a must! And yes hairdryer is a must~! 😛

I have oily hair that gets greasy so quickly so I wash it every other day. If it gets really greasy, I’ll just either use dry shampoo or wear my hair in a messy bun.

Gio, you might wanna give Sukin Purifying Shampoo a try. It’s for oily scalp. I’ve been using it for 2 yrs now and it’s great. I have oily scalp and it gets greasy til my hair gets so greasy as well. But with Sukin’s shampoo… only my scalp is only and it doesn’t spread to the hair. I guess other shampoos just dries out the hair too much. Get a small bottle and try. 🙂 Hope it’s good news for you

I used to wash my hair every other day, sometimes only twice a week thinking that since I wore a hijab I’m not exposed to all the dirt and dust. But I was wrong forgetting about the oily scalp bit. Then a trip to Svensons and after a few thousand bucks flown to them, I now wash my hair daily. My trichologist actually advised the best is twice a day, but since I have long hair, I only stick to washing my hair at night, less the hassle in the morning because I have to make sure my hair is completely dry before I put on my scarf. A hairdryer is a MUST for me too!! 😉

Its great you eventually realised the problem with the scalp even if it did cost money to find out. If I wear a hat I do find that sweat gets trapped on my head and I look and feel awful!

I’ve got very thick, curly hair that’s prone to dryness and frizz, so washing daily would be follicular suicide. I wash every 3 days, or when I’ve had a workout. It’s kind of unfortunate, because by the third day, it’s got enough natural oil in it that the curls are defined and soft, then I ruin the effect by washing it. Then the next two days, I sport a gentle halo of frizz. Rambut menggerbang? That’s me!
If we had access to better curly hair products, I might be tempted to try the no-‘poo method Iza talked about, but not with our present selection of products. I’d LOVE to check out an African-American/ethnic hair store, I can’t imagine what curl-defining lovelies they have. Sigh.

The perils of living a country where everyone has and wants straight hair if rebonding is anything to go by 🙂 its a pity there aren’t more options for those who’d like to enhance their curls

I used to NEED to wash my hair every day. Even if I showered my body, if I didn’t suds up my head, I felt dirty. Now that my skin is less oily (and I live in a temperate climate), I like my hair better the day after I wash it. So now I wash it 3-4 times a week, and I don’t use soap–I use WEN.

My hair is cut in a bob, and it definitely needs shaping, but I no longer use a blow dryer. Instead, I throw bamboo velcro curlers in dry hair for about a half hour, and that does the trick. My hair holds the volume all day and no heat damage.

It took a little while, but after a few weeks of not shampoing every day, my hair stayed clean longer. If I work out (or anything that makes me sweat), all bets are off. I must clean my hair.

I wash my hair everyday too! You’ll get pimple-free days in the long run proven by me! If you regularly wash your hair, the dust and oil that stuck to your hair will be transferred to your pillow and in the end, to your face. So, its better to wash it everyday. 😀

Haha yes that’s a fear of mine too! Plus if one uses products in hair in the day I’m not sure if its good to leave it in

I wash my hair every evening, blow it dry and I feel extremely clean 😉 I’ve a bob cut so it’s easy and fast for the hair to dry.

That’s what I do too! A bob dries quite quickly so I don’t do intensive hair drying. Considering where you live, I’m surprised that you still wash your hair everyday! I used to hate washing hair in winter when the bathroom would be so cold 😛

I do wash my hair everyday. For kids it is advisable to wash hair everyday. But for adults, I think constant washing isn’t good as it takes away the oils which our hair is acting as protector. Constant shampooing takes our natural oil, it makes our hair dry.
