Day 27 of 30: YSL Rouge Pur Couture 04 Rouge Vermillion and a Reader’s Request

August 3, 2011 Paris B 25 Comments

When I last talked about the Coffret D’or Beauty Sharp blush, reader Dorami asked if the bronzer bit of the blush kit could work as eyeshadow and if the whole blush palette might then be used for an all over face look. I thought that was a brilliant idea, so I put it to work.

I ran into problems right away. The bronzer part doesn’t show up pigmented enough on the lids as an eyeshadow. To get around that, I lined the lid liberally with a black pencil, blended it up and then layered the brown colour on it. All it did was serve to give a tiny bit of definition to the eye area. I ended up blending in some coral, pink and most of the brown. It applies very very sheerly, so I think it makes a good blush and bronzer because its not too strongly coloured but as an eyeshadow, its not worth trying 🙂

Still, with such a plain look for the face, it was a good opportunity to wear a nice bright lippie! I picked mine out in the YSL Rouge Pur Couture 04 Rouge Vermillion. It has been described as Raspberry Red but I say pish! Its anything but that!

I picked this colour up at Heathrow last year (gosh! Time flies!) because YSL is no longer available here in Malaysia (except KLIA I believe) and I wanted to check out their (then) new Rouge Pur Couture. It is a very pigmented range of lipsticks, with a lovely smooth creamy texture and a satin finish. Perfect if you like strong lip colours, not so if you prefer the sheer balm textures brands have been shoving at us lately.Continue Reading

Soap up with the Ah Yuan Organic Handmade Flower Soap Series

August 2, 2011 Paris B 22 Comments

Some of you might remember my foray into Ah Yuan Organic Handmade Soaps from a couple of years ago. One of my complaints was how quickly it melted, although I really liked the soaps.

Recently, during the visit by Mr. Ah Yuan or to give him his actual name Mr. Chiang Jung Yuan to Kuala Lumpur, he was asked just how long a bar of his soaps can last. His answer was about a month. A MONTH! I was shocked because my soap slips away quite quickly – 2 weeks at best.

Note: Do not store your handmade soaps like this. Store it on its side so it lasts longer.

Ah Yuan’s advise is to store your soaps away from water and on its side. This allows the air to circulate properly around a larger surface area of the soap thereby allowing it to dry out and last longer. So, now you know! 😀

Ah Yuan was in town to tell us about his new handmade flower soaps – soaps made with flower extracts for different needs.

confession time: Share a secret?

Hello Ladies!

I have a confession – don’t we all? 😉

I almost never comb my hair in the mornings. It helps that I have obedient hair that falls into place quite easily so I run my fingers through it and I’m done.

There we are. A random confession from yours truly.

Have a confession you want to get off your chest? Please feel free to drop a note below (anonymously if you prefer). I will not judge and neither should anyone else. Its a free for all in here! 😉

Dior dons their Blue-Tie for Fall 2011 with a Smoking Blue palette (and a bunch of other stuff too)

August 1, 2011 Paris B 29 Comments

You know what? I don’t recall seeing so much hate for one palette online before this. Perhaps “hate” is too harsh a word, so perhaps “dislike” might fit better. A bit upsetting, when its from a brand I adore, and a product I’d been keeping an eye out for a while.

Its the Dior Blue Tie Smoking Blue 001 palette that’s the limited edition item in the Dior Blue Tie collection, along with a white shadow version Smoking White. I love navy blue colours on the eyes. Its a lovely alternative to black and more interesting IMO. So the Dior Blue Tie collection caught my eyes in many ways than one.

Having messed around with the Smoking Blue palette, I must admit though. Dior did sorta bomb with this one. Its not one of their best efforts in terms of product quality, although they still win hands down in terms of product packaging. Still, its not exactly a write off totally. If you like navy blue shadows, its still a very servicable makeup palette and perfect for a really excellent smokey eye look. Its a bit debatable however if I’d tell you to go out and get it due to the price but I’m not about to tell you to stay away either. It pretty much depends on you 🙂
