Folks on my Twitter and Facebook page timelines will know this, but I wanted to see what else others might have to say.
I’ve been fighting a breakout on my chin area for about a month or perhaps more. I initially attributed it to hormones – that dreaded time of the month does it to me. I might get a spot sometimes, but it usually goes away fairly quickly with the flow… as it were.
This time, I’m not just getting a spot. I’m getting spotS <- plural. A couple of them of the painful variety.
And its just on my chin. Nowhere else. I’ve scaled back my skincare (nothing new), hydrated the chin area till I swear its flooded, slapped on tea tree oil on the spot, tried various combinations of creams for acne skin just for the chin… and am turning up at a loss. The spots aren’t going away and have in fact multiplied.
For someone who thought that age has finally taken care of that darned spotty problem, its a big deal. So come on, help me out here.
Do you have a sure fire remedy to kill spots and pimples? Specifically on the chin area. Or perhaps you have a secret weapon for bazookaing away these large painful spots? Please share!
I could pledge you my first born if your remedy works, but as there’s no hope of that happening any time soon, you will have my undying gratitude instead.
Help!

Note: I wanted to thank everyone of you for you helpful tips but its swelling! I didn’t want to bloat the comment box further so thank you each and every one of you for taking the time to share your tips. I will be implementing some of it and hopefully will see some improvements soon. Thank you! xx

i think its the stress 😛 or the dirty stinky bolster/pillow if u have 😛
i had the same (or similar) condition before where the original spot decided to spread and infected the good cells. I ended up with chains of pimples. can’t remember what i used, but i remember Sothys Clarifying Correcting Serum saved my skin. Pricey but heck, I was willing to pay for it 🙂

paris, i recall when i went through the same pain as you. i tried retin a, differin, antibiotics, OCM, etc and nothing worked. in the end it turned out that it was caused by a gynecological condition. so it may be worthwhile getting checked out on that front.
prior to being diagnosed though, i somehow managed to clear it up with the help of the following regime:
– cleansing: in the mornings, use dr bronner’s tea tree liquid soap to cleanse. in the evenings use cleansing oil followed by dr bronner’s with a clarisonic.
– moisturising: cut down on moisturisers and only use in areas which feel tight or dry.
– sunscreen: continue using sunscreen as always.
– treatment: apply cellnique’s pro sebum gel day and night.
within a week, the breakout subsided and within a few months, the hyperpigmentation left by the previous cysts went away. i have stopped using cellnique regularly since the congestion cleared up. however when i feel the onset of a huge “underground” cyst (it’s always the ominous sudden tenderness before the monster starts to form), i would attack it with a clarisonic loaded with dr bronner’s followed by the cellnique pro sebum gel and most of the time, the next day, the pain and tenderness will have subsided and the zit will never have a chance to form.
i hope this helps you.

Try topical clindamycin from the pharmacy, I think they are quite effective for cystic acne, I find it more effective when use with salicylic acid based acne medication, as salicylic acid exfoliates dead skin cells, it helps the clindamycin to penetrate better… salicylic acid based acne medications are also good to combined with other topical acne medication. Hopes this helps! 😉

This sounds like the time I give you my super duper secret acne buster formula.
1. Use a sensitive skin, soap free facial cleanser. Eg physio gel. Stop clarisonic.
2. Vichy normaderm alchohol free toner for sensitive skin
3. After cleanse, tone, dry, put Vichy normaderm spot treatment for sudden localized breakout on the area.
4. Hydrating serum. (if you want)
5. Moisturize.
5. Light

Since breakout is certain area only, once a wk, use origins clear improvement mask over the area. Alternate days, use it as spot treatment on the zits overnight. Sleep only when mask dried.
If head appears, I will (not sure if you keen) pop zit, apply 3M nexcare patch to suck out the buggers.
Shay says
I’m use you think that is finished. But ho ho noooo, if not, how can it be super duper right?
Go to the pharmacy and get zinc supplements. Take dosage as written.
To further enhance, take vitamin e and/or primrose oil supplements too.
Yup. That’s it.
Until I develop this formula further.

Oops. Typos occurs due to fat finger errors on phone.
Last thing. Sleep early. Between 11pm to 2am every night, you must be asleep.
Mei Ling says
I agree that with Shay. Don’t stay up late. Keep your skincare routine simple.

Run to your nearest pharmacy pick up a tube of benzoyl peroxide either in 5% or 10% depending on how hard you want to go. Apply a thick layer over cleansed skin (only on the spots) and leave it overnight. This baby guarantees spot to go away overnight.

I heard that pimple in chin area has something to do with constipation. When i have difficulty doing the “big business”, there will be one or 2 pimple there.
Sometimes, not doing anything maybe best. Let the skin get rid of the dirt, our body has its own healing and natural process, just let it be and you are doing right thing by drinking lots of water.

Oh, just crossed my mind, a friend has the same problem, in late 30s, breakout in chin area. And the skin doc said is hormonal problem. She did recover after few visits. Doc gave her some cream and oral medication. If you need, can email the doc details.

Try Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion, it always works for me 🙂 hope yours will get beaten in NO TIME ! hugsss..

How about that apple cider vinegar toner u recommended a while ago?
I heard that breakouts at chin area means you are having constipation. Are you? If yes, maybe u can add in prunes into your diet and also try some forlax….
If it is most likely hormonal, I would recommend u to sleep by 10pm 🙂
Hope this helps!

I gotten bad case of acne last year in may and this year’s may. Also on the chin and for my case, cheeks too. I used stevia-a too, which i got it from my family doctor. It helps to dry up existing light to moderate acne and reduce sebum production. However my skin peeled badly in the initial stage of usage, and i had to layer clinique moisture surge over the peeling parts.
For big, painful pimples i use lavender essential oil, neat, on it. I cut a small corner of cotton pad, soak it with witch hazel and put a drop of lavender essential oil and lightly press the cotton square on the pimple. I leave the cotton square overnight and repeat for 3 nights. By fourth night the pimple will subside. Tea tree oil doesnt work for me to dry up pimples.
Lavender EO might burn the skin surrounding the pimple. So i treat the “burnt” skin with cotton square soaked in witch hazel and a drop of kiehl’s midnight recovery concentrate.
Also i wash my face with oatmeals to reduce oil production on face.

Hi girl!,
Have u forgotten your old goody apple cider vinegar toner? I learnt this fom you since your first post and it works for me until this very day!
Yea, I recall your recent post on the own home remedies are toublesome, but I think mixing apple cider with some boiled water should not be that tedious! Just try it out again without burning a hole in your pocket and who knows it just work like old time! 😉
But if you could just spend extra seconds on mixing with green tea, it is more effective from my opinion.. good luck and hope to hear great improvement on your skin!

I have this problem too couple of years back and the only product I was able to use to cleanse, calm and hydrate my skin is Sophyto Natural Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and Sophyto’s toner. Took about three months of persistent continous use to see stabilized results. Changing diet helps too. Had mainly greens, fruits, oats and fish. Cut out dairy, sweets, breads, red meat. Tip to drinking water is not to drink alot in one shot but to take small moderate amount slowly throughout the day. And sleeping before 11pm helps too. Basically lifestyle overhaul.
Kay says
Oh, and cut off dairy products especially milk.
Probably it’s caused by your clarisonic too. Some people moght experience purging when using the clarisonic for the first time.

I say avoid coffee ! It’s a major culprit for me !!

Just sharing my experience.. I’m having the same problem since late last year. Nothing seemed to work until I decided to cut out seafood and peanuts a week ago. So far, I’m seeing some improvement. I’ve started mini detox a few days ago to help accelerate the ‘clearing process’. My skin was looking it’s best when I was on semi raw food diet so I believe food is the culprit for me

I have just recovered from a spell of horrible acne too…
Here is what I do:
1) Wash with mild soap…
2) Use a toner meant for sensitive skin…
3) Use Aloe Vera Gel to moisturize the skin
4) Slap on a HUGE amount of Aloe Vera Gel on top of the pimple. Really huge amount, like a mini mountain piling on top on it… I use Jorubi Aloe Vera Gel btw…
4) Do not add anything else to the skin…
Oh and for those pimples which have popped due to itchy hands =P, use 3M Nexcare Acne Patch to suck out all the oil, then apply Aloe Vera Gel on it…
Hope it helps!!
Love ya blog!! =)

One night, when i was looking at my chin, my eye catch a bottle of medicated powder (AIKEN) sitting on my vanity table and i was
” hmm..why not i try this, its medicated and good for skin” so that night i went to sleep with my powdery face. I use the powder every day and night when i’m at home and GUESS what…. in 2,3days my spotS GONE!! not all gone, but 70% gone! so i just continue use the powder and its completely gone in just +-1 week.. i’m sooooo happy about the result.
i’m not sure about your skin, but you can give it a try..and its SUPER CHEAP! 😀

Hydrate like crazy (which I’m sure you’re probably doing anyway) and try apply Assata Spot-on acne cream on the spot. I find that it worked for me when I had acne spots near my chin area.
Foong Jin says
This is probably not really recommended for long term, all over the face use, but when I was suffering from my hormonal breakout (on my cheeks!!), my bf suggested for me to use hydrogen peroxide, seeing as acne = bacteria. I wet a cotton ball with it and gently dab on the area with acne. If the pimple can be popped, all the better. Pop it and quickly sterilise it with hydrogen peroxide. The pimple will be so flat the next day, as if it never existed. Now my skin has cleared up (only the occasional spot during time of the month), so I’ve scaled back my use of hydrogen peroxide only onto the active pimples (sometimes not even, depending on whether it can be popped).
A lot of people rave about using hydrogen peroxide as an acne-buster, but it will kill the good cells as well as the bad ones, so I use a regenerative cream as my night cream (Vitacreme B12). So far so good *cross fingers*.
I tried so many acne-busting products before using hydrogen peroxide, and this is the only one which managed to make my acne go away for real. The others just brought it under control slightly.
Hope this helps!

Hi Paris!
I never comment and I told you that in an email (thanks for changing the posting format! i actually frequent the site 2-3 times a week now!). I just have to tell you what I’ve discovered to work for me.
In the past year whenever I get a pimple or a cystic pimple, I’ve been layering this product on it: http://www.amazon.com/Neaclear-Liquid-Oxygen-1-Ounce-Package/dp/B000VKX056
Please ignore the review and also the disclaimer on the box saying NOT to put it on fresh pimples (This is because it stings like a B*TCH!). This is meant to be used on acne scars. It works ok for that too but it has worked WONDERS for newly forming pimples! I’ve tested this at least 6 times so far on cystic pimples and they decrease in size/disappear within 2 days of use. Sure it stings in some degree no matter what but it doesnt last (just fight through the pain!). What I do is, after I wash my face with the clarisonic, I apply a huge patch of this to cover the entire area. After it dries I leave it on for about 30 mins then I peel it off. I then reapply and let it stay on til morning before peeling it off. By the 2nd day the bumps will have decreased in size/redness/swelling. This works best in conjunction with the clarisonic and if applied in the early stages. But it still works regardless.
I dont know how readily available this is but if youre able to try it please do! Good luck!!
