Would this Shiseido Shimmering Rouge RD406 Desire light your fire?

July 21, 2011 Paris B 23 Comments

I didn’t want to include this into my 30 day lip colour project because I’d already featured another Shiseido Shimmering Rouge lipstick in RS308 Iron Maiden earlier. But I did want to show you this colour because I love it a lot, and I think many of you would too 🙂

shiseido shimmering rouge rd406 desire

Its RD406 Desire which belongs in the red colour family but wait! Don’t run away because I said red 😛 It might just surprise you yet!

In the tube, RD406 is a soft red that actually looks quite bright. Just at a glance, many people might look away thinking “Oh it’s too red/bright for me” but really, I suggest you take a second glance because the colour is gorgeous!

The colour swatches and applies a little more pink than it looks in the tube which surprised me, just like Iron Maiden did. I might have expected a colour with a name like “Desire” to be a brighter red on the lips. Something that might ignite a burning desire. But instead what I get is a very wearable, face brightening pink-red lip shade.

Shiseido shimmering rouge rd406

Its a colour you can easily wear every single day without being bored of it, because it goes with a myriad of looks. I had been feeling a little blah lately, and today, I pulled this out, swiped it on and instantly looked and felt a little better. I don’t think I’d have called this colour Desire. I might have called it Blush instead 🙂

Like all Shiseido Shimmering Rouge lipsticks, the texture is at once smooth with good colour pay off, yet lightweight on the lips. There is no scent and it lasts long enough for me. Despite the name of the line however, I find that RD406 has no shimmer in it. It imparts a slight glossy finish – very slight – but it makes a lovely work lipstick because its subtle yet adds colour, bright yet muted and glossy yet not highly shiny. No one can say you aren’t professional with this on 🙂

In a nutshell

A lovely lightweight lipstick that applies very smoothly with good colour pay off, yet feels lightweight and non drying on the lips. RD406 Desire is a lovely colour that applies a pink-red on me, and which I think will suit many.

Pros: Lightweight texture, Pigmented colour, Can be sheered out, No scent, Lip plumping effect

Cons: Pricey

You know, this is a colour I’d associate more with Rose (RS in Japanese lipstick code) instead of Red (RD). Sometimes, I do wonder what goes in the head of those who name and code these lipstick colours. I’ve found that I can actually wear most Japanese brand lipstick in all shades even those that look orange or brown, because they never quite apply the same on the skin as they look in the tube. Its both a good and bad thing but from experience, its always been good for me 🙂 I’m a huge huge fan of Japanese lipsticks from most brands 😀

Have you tried any colour from the Shiseido Shimmering Rouge range of lipsticks? Might RD406 be your first? 😉

That’s a beautiful colour 🙂 It really does brighten up the face immensely, and it wears gorgeously on you, Paris! Pity about the price tag though 🙁

Thank you Ksuan 🙂 And yes the pricetag is a bit… no, a LOT of an ouch. But quality is good!

I find that Shiseido’s prices are always quite steep. I guess you do pay for quality, but I will always wish that elegant Japanese brands like Shiseido and Kose were a little more affordable!

I do find that too – Japanese brands belong in a whole different category. They come with luxury price tags but don’t even look very luxurious! But quality is usually awesome so I’ve learnt to close one eye 😉

It’s rosy indeed. I expected it to lean more on the redder/coral side considering how it looks in the tube, but it does look lovely applied. Very brightening and yet office-compatible! I bought a lipstick with similar colouring by Sisley. I was meaning to buy the rosy Dior Addict one when my eyes fell on a Sisley ad (ads are to blame for most of women’s purchases!). Long story short, Sisley is now my staple for everyday office wear.^^

I too expected it to look redder 🙂 But Sisley! I’ve been a little curious about it because its such a quiet little brand yet so pricey. Since you say its a staple, and we use similar colours/textures, I’d love to see how this brand fares 😀

It’s pricey alright, but it’s also outstanding. I should do a review about it some day – my blog is quite dead, you know.^^ Gotta shake the sloth out of my bones and try my hand at writing once again.

What a pretty colour! I’m glad it doesn’t have any shimmer. I just might have to go to a local Shiseido counter to give it a swatch, thanks Paris!
