Day 23 of 30: Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayon Scarlet (absolutely decadent!)

July 1, 2011 Paris B 45 Comments

Its been a while since we’ve featured a red red lip. Never a better time than now, and never a better time than a Fri-i-day! 😀 Will you join me in pulling out a red lip colour to celebrate the onset of the weekend?

Ooh did I see you reach for your sunnies? Isn’t that just such a bright red? Yes, I can just see you back there cringing and going “Nooo! I can’t wear this!” And yeah I thought so too.

I picked this one up from Superdrug in the UK last year and I wasn’t too sure about it initially. But it was late autumn and it was dark early and I was feeling morose so an inexpensive red lip seemed like a good idea. But you know what? I’m really glad I got it because its one of the brightest longest lasting reds I own!

The Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayon comes in a fat pencil form. Bit of a bummer because I now have to go and find a sharpener that can fit a fat pencil. I wish Barry M had made them the twisty pen sort like the Clinique Chubby Sticks or the RMK Lip Crayon or even the Eyeko Liptastick Glossy Lip Pens.

Its quite a goodly size though and the texture of the crayon is soft and its crazy pigmented. I mean CRAZY pigmented. I just need 1 layer on my lips to last me practically all day long. Yes, I do and can wear red lips to the office – lucky me! 🙂

Also featuring: Dior Rosy Tan eyeshadow, Givenchy Le Prisme Blush in Blooming Fuchsias, Dior First Light Summer Glow Powder

Yep, with this on, the lips are practically all that you see 🙂 The swatch on the right is just swiped once. There is some shimmer in this but it isn’t sparkly and overwhelming and I like how it keeps things interesting. For such a pigmented colour, it does not travel very much nor bleed. I think it might be because this is a crayon as opposed to a creamy lipstick so it holds better.

I can wear this all day long (if I’m not too greedy about my lunch and wipe it off after that) by letting it fade down into a lip stain and topping it up with gloss for the evening, or just reapplying if I feel like it. I usually go the gloss route because it does fade into a very pretty decadent looking stain.

Pros: Affordable, Longlasting, Not Drying, Does not bleed nor feather, Fades into a nice stain

Cons: Unavailable in Malaysia for now, Hard to find a sharpener for this fat pencil

So ladies, has anyone gotten onto the red lip wagon yet? Or are you still feeling your way around it? I should perhaps keep this one for the evening. Its a bit strong for the day… but no one’s told me to keep it away yet, so it stays 🙂 I wish we get Barry M here so you can try this too!

Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayons retail at £4.99 each and are available at Barry M counters in the UK and online.

Wow, it’s such an intense, pigmented red! I’m not brave enough to try such a bold red lip. I don’t wear my Maybelline Summer Sunset because I’m too chicken.

Nice color! But I’m not adventurous enough to wear it ^_____^ Anyway, I like your idea of topping a lipcolor with gloss. Why I never thought of that?!

Hehe… glad you picked up a new tip! 😉 Its a useful one to add shine or gloss to a lipstick or to rejuvenate a lip colour or change a lip colour. Its fun!

Thank you SH. Much depends on the tones and shades – once you know the ones that go with your skin, you can also pull off any shade! 🙂 But wait till I try a nude – you’d probably agree its not quite me 😀

I envy those of you gals who can wear such a bloody red color! I’m not a bold girl, and I simply dare not wear something like this on the street.

I guess it comes with familiarity with the colour and confidence. Give it a go, if not with something this bright (not many people would go down this route) but with something a little brighter than your usual shade and build it up from there 🙂 you can do it too!
