One sniff of the limited edition Annick Goutal Petite Cherie fragrance and I was immediately transported out of the mall the launch was held in, into a peach and pear orchard, sitting on the grass and basking in the sun in a pretty pale pink polka dot dress, biting into a juicy ripe pear, with its sweet juices running down my fingers. It is summer in a pear orchard distilled into a pretty cut glass bottle.
It is a fragrance I could TASTE! And every time I spritz it on, all I can ever think about is ripe pears and the wonderful taste in my mouth. Annick Goutal says its a scent that makes you want to cover the wearer with kisses. Hmm… since I’m the wearer… that would be nice 😛
Unlike many other Annick Goutal scents which tend towards being heavy (and to my not very sensitive nose) rather musky scents, the new limited edition Petite Cherie is sweetness and light. The sweetness is further enhanced by the pink polka dotted ribbon tied around the classic Annick Goutal bottle. Annick Goutal created Petite Cherie (Little Darling) for her daughter Camille hence the lighter more girly scent.
I’m not terribly good with scents and although I do like this one very much (because I’m a foodie and a fruitie) all that sweet light scent also means shorter lifespan of scent. When I spritz it on in the morning, it takes me to about half the day before I no longer smell it. Its a right pity 🙁
That said, when it is still discernible to the nose, I have had one or two people ask me what scent I was wearing, because its quite different from the perfumes you get out there. Its not strong, its delicate. Its not heavy, its light and fresh. And its a scent that’s quite noticable, that most people would like. Due to the price, you won’t get many people wearing the same scent out there.
You might also be interested to know that Annick Goutal scents can be layered for more complexity and for diversity. So if you feel like wearing something stronger yet want a light top note, you can layer Petite Cherie with heavier scents for something a little more complex. I might have to take a look at some other Annick Goutal scents – I personally go for something a little heavier.
Pros: Lovely light delicate scent that smells quite unique, Not too musky
Cons: Annick Goutal fragrances are very pricey (ouch!), Petite Cherie does not last very long on me
But whilst I like the smell of ripened pears, what I plan to do is pick up the Petite Cherie Perfumed Body Milk. I took a sniff and it smells a little more concentrated than the fragrance (which is absolutely lovely!) and would be lovely to use for layering purposes. If you layer fragrance over a similarly fragranced body lotion, it helps the scent last longer. And if you are on a budget, the body lotion will get you the scent without breaking the bank… too much! 😀

My Mum loves the original Goutal range, but I never could get my skin to “jive” with them somehow. This, however, sounds young, refreshing and gorgeous!
But RM699 for a 100ml bottle?! Oh Annick. Why do you do this to our poor wallets 🙁
ParisB says
I personally found the regular Annick Goutal fragrances a little strong for me. But now that I’m *ahem* getting on in years, I might go take a look anyway and see if there’s anything I might like. This one’s fresh – very different from the regular scents. And yes very pricey but they are that way everywhere 🙁 Maybe get the 25ml bottle if you really like it? I do realize that more specialized perfume houses use better ingredients and their blends are usually much more unique than the more chemical but affordable perfumes out there. Jo Malone is lovely but super pricey too.

25ml is so small 🙁 But I guess for a really unique scent, all you need is a tiny little bit 🙂
Bought a Jo Malone scent for my Mum recently, and she loves it too. There’s something special about these smaller perfume houses, their scents really set them apart from the generics! I found myself wanting the scent that I’d bought her *guilty* – but I resisted!
ParisB says
Sadly yes 25ml is tiny. I usually just use 2 spritzes behind the ear and its pretty good 🙂 Someone has to tell me if you get Jo Malone in Singapore 😛

I can’t get my wallet to jive with the prices! 😉

I’ve not whiffed any of the Annick Goutal perfumes before, but I like the bow/butterfly perfume bottles!
ParisB says
Yeah their bottles are lovely and very classic.

I was not a fan of perfumes/colognes/etc even several years ago so I haven’t tried Annick Goutal but I am slowly trying out some brands and learning more about the world of perfumes 🙂
ParisB says
Oh don’t get into Annick Goutal unless you want your wallet burnt 😛 On the other hand, you really could do worse 🙂

I love Annick Goutal. Her scents are just that few that do not run a headache for me. Jo Malone is indeed lovely too. Recently acquired their Earl grey and cucumber scent. I am amazed how these perfume house manage to capture these lovely scents in a bottle.
ParisB says
I’m curious to try Jo Malone! Is there a store in Singapore?
Lisa says
Yes, there is a boutique. It’s at Ngee Ann City in Orchard. Near the escalator going up to Kinokuniya. They are great for layering according to your moods. Bad thing is they are not exactly that affordable and you will or might be tempted to buy a few to mix and match.
ParisB says
Thanks for the location deets! I might go and take a sniff when I’m next down 😀

if you like pear scents, you might want to ‘sniff’ out english pear and freesia. I adore their “nectarine blossom and honey” and “orange blossom”. Nutmeg and ginger is unique too though not something i will usually wear. The citrus range is not too bad either.
ParisB says
I will do that! 😀 Looking forward to it 🙂

Petite Cherie is my absolute favourite from Annick Goutal, it’s sweet, playful and cheerful… just lovely! It is pretty long-lasting on me. My other favourites are Eau de Charlotte and Ce Soir ou Jamais. Both very feminine scents. I used to have Grand Amour too but it got really heavy and cloying so I sold it off on ebay.
lyn says
Forgot to add… the sweeter scents from Annick Goutal can get cloying after a while especially in our weather. Some of these perfumes do smell better in cooler climates. However, I haven’t had problems with Petite Cherie or Eau de Charlotte in our weather. Ce Soir is a bit fickle and it can sometimes give me a headache on a sweltering, hot day.
If you like PC, you may like EdC.

I’m not very good with sweet scents myself but I must agree that many sweet scents are just too heavy in warm weather. We need something lighter in our oppressive heat. Thanks for all the recs. I’ll be taking a look at some of them 😉

Thanks for the recommendation! I love the smell of pear as well!!! If you are interested, I believe my esthetician sells facial creams and masks that are pear scented as well! She put one on me before and I was in heaven!! If you love the hint of pear in a perfume you will love having a light moisturizer with it as well. If you want to look her up, she is on linked in at http://www.linkedin.com/pub/judy-zeman /22/aa5/619. She swears by Pevonia products, so you might be able to find them online as well.
Can’t wait to try this perfume! Thanks again!!

Afraid your therapist is based in the US but it might help someone.

This is my “signature” scent now actually.
And I find I can still detect it at the end of the work day. It’s faint, but it’s there.
ParisB says
Oh good on ya. If on my wrist, I can sniff it a little. Or maybe I just think its gone and if I overdo it, it might just kill someone with too strong scent 😛
Cas says
I have the Petite Cherie (non LE version) and I LOVE it to bits. It’s not too over-powering and smells absolutely heavenly! My only gripe is the price, lol. My bottle is almost finishing and I’m finding it hard to replace it coz of the $.
ParisB says
Sadly I’m going to have to agree with you. This is a fragrance to buy on a very very special “I’m feeling flush” occasion. The capital outlay is hard on the pocket 🙂
