Dare you try something called a “Snail Cream” if only for the sake of experimentation or beauty?
I kid you not. Snail cream is a very valid range of skincare that has been gripping Korea by storm. Almost every Korean brand of skincare – Etude House, Tony Moly, Baviphat, It’s Skin etc – has a line dedicated to snails. The first time I saw it, I shuddered.
Snail mucus on your skin?! Eww!
But really, its not all that gross as it sounds. It actually looks and smells just like any other moisturizer out there. Nothing slimy or gross about it at all. And it isn’t as new an “invention” either. There have been snail creams around for a while, and when I did a quick online search, one that popped up over and over was Elicina Snail Cream from Chile. I’d never heard of it before this so I forgive you if you haven’t come across it either 😀
What these snail creams do is use extract of Snail Mucin in their products – apparently yes, that’s the mucus bit. According to the brochure of the Tony Moly Intensive Repair Live Snail Cream, the skincare benefits of snail mucin was discovered by Chilean snail farmers who discovered that from handling the snails kept for food, the mucus helps heal cuts and abrasions and kept their hands looking smooth. And research showed that snail mucin had regenerative effects on the skin. Apparently, even Japanese cosmetics companies are looking into this due to the popularity of snail creams in the region.
Tony Moly Intensive Repair Live Snail Cream and Intensive Repair Live Snail Eye Cream
The Koreans, being presently at the forefront of skincare technology, have embraced the technology of snail mucin and incorporated it into their skincare. It is touted as a cure all, from having anti-aging benefits to whitening to hydration. In fact, it seems to be an all in one sort of cream! Boxes of snail creams were being snapped up even as I stood deliberating over my purchase so yes, if you are wondering, it is very popular.
So, would you dare put this cream on your face knowing what it contains? 😀

Yes, for the sake of beauty. After all, it’s not like I’m eating a raw snail! There’s a Malaysian company hawking its snail cream on facebook ads. Not checked it out yet but I see it’s not an original or weird idea. 🙂
ParisB says
Is there a Malaysian company at it too? I didn’t know that!

Hi, I’ve been using the Tony Moly Snail cream and eye gel for about 2 weeks and it’s great so far. It looks, smells and feels just like a normal moisturiser and isn’t too oily for my skin.
So far very pleased with this product.

When they first started coming out last year, I got samples with my purchase at Missha and it really worked well on my face. I felt a difference immediately. My face became much smoother and it wasn’t as oily with other creams I’ve tried.

I’m using a snail extract cream from my country (Romania) since last year. Compared to the ones i’ve seen on websites selling Asian skincare, mine has a more affordable price (around 12 American dollars for 100 ml). It’s a very gentle, rather fluid cream, smells nicely and doesn’t feel sticky or odd in any way. It comes in a plastic recipient with pump so it’s use is very hygienic too. As for results, not sure about the healing properties because i didn’t apply it on the acne scars – i use it mostly around the eyes to prevent wrinkles and on the cheeks whenever i feel my skin tight or dry. But i must say that compared to all the other face creams i used so far this was the least irritating and delivered the best results on my sensitive, prone to allergies skin.
Just in case anyone cares, the brand is called Herbagen.

I recently tried the Tony Moly Live Snail Essence and I have to say, IT’S BEEN WONDERFUL!! I’ve only put it on a few times (usually right after a cotton-sheet mask, with nothing else put on top of the Essence) and in the morning when I’ve woken up, my skin has looked so clear and radiant and felt so soft and smooth! I’m really impressed and will buy some more of this product, especially to take home! :p

I prefer to put something natural on my skin rather than synthetics and chemicals which speed ages skin. Some cmpanies add parabens etc. Into snails creams but i buy the ones with natural preservatives or none. They are good, happy with the snail cream in its most natural form.

I’m currently using the Missha Super Aqua Cell Renew Snail Essential Moisturizer. Been using it for about 4 months and I have to say it is my HG moisturizer. It’s light and doesn’t clog my pores. My acne scars are much less prevalent and I don’t wake up with a grease-ball face (I only use this at night). A couple of weeks ago, I was experimenting with a new primer that completely gave me a horrendous acne attack on my forehead. I stopped using it immediately and just slathered on the snail cream 2x a day instead of the previous 1x a day, followed by a little benzoyl peroxide treatment. Just overnight it deactivated the pain and inflammation and 2 days later my breakout is gone! Just a mild dry spot from one zit but that’s it! Benzoyl peroxide alone can never do that for me so I believe it is also the partnership of the snail cream. I highly recommend snail cream to people experiencing acne or oily skin.
