Day 4 of 30 : Mentholatum LipIce Water Colour Lip Moisturizer 03 Kissy Pink

May 7, 2011 Paris B 32 Comments

I like my lovely high end lip goodies, but here’s one I got recently that surprised me for application, texture and price. Those of you on a budget will love this one 🙂 Its the Mentholatum LipIce Water Colour Lip Moisturizer in the Think Pink series.

Not unfamiliar with LipIce, I initially thought that this product was a tinted lipbalm. In fact, I thought it was those what look clear but turn pink on your lips – you know those? Instead I was surprised to find that what the LipIce Water Colour Lip Moisturizer is, is a sheer, moisturizing lipstick.

It comes in 4 shades of pink which Mentholatum describes as healthy looking lips, and Kissy Pink is No. 03. Truth be told, this is probably one of the nicest introduction to coral lipsticks as you can ever get! Check out the swatch below 🙂

There, see. Here’s what it looks like in the tube.

LipIce Water Colour Kissy Pink is more coral than pink!

Incidentally, although in the packaging the tube looks prismatic, its not. Its just a very simple straightforward plastic tube of lipstick. Feels a little cheap, but then so is the price so I’m not complaining! 🙂

Here’s a swatch on my arm. Its actually quite pigmented for what it is and it layers well.

In fact, I think it comparable to many of the more expensive sheer lipbalm-lipstick hybrids we have been seeing this year! The only drawback is the colour selection which at 4 is really small, but which for a quick drugstore fix, is perfect 🙂

And for some strange reason, on my lips, it turns… you guessed it. Rosy. Everything seems to take on a rose tint on my lips. It might be because I have quite pigmented lips to start with. That said, 03 Kissy Pink is not a pink, but a very pretty rosy-coral that brightens up the face, does not slip and slide, lasts a couple of hours at least, and isn’t drying at all.

Pros: Inexpensive, Not drying, Nice colour

Cons: None

Here is the ingredient list for those interested.

I don’t quite agree with the statement on the packaging, that Kissy Pink is a “Natural Pink Shade”. It is a very pretty colour that applies like a lipbalm yet looks like a lipstick, but it is by no stretch of imagination, pink. That said however, I think its an excellent sheer moisturizing lipbalm-lipstick and can easily stave off the lemmings for the higher end Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and Dior Addict. Just about.

Have you spotted these in the pharmacies yet? Do keep an eye out for them. I do think they are a good buy 🙂

If shade no. 3 can turn rosy…what will no.2 become? 🙂

Wow. Nice. I hate the idea of colourless lipbalms that turn pink upon application. Colour is too neon pinkish. Havent seen it yet. Oooo. Must check it out.

Same here! I absolutely detest those that promise to change colour on your lips, and then you look in the mirror and see neon pink on your lips… and that you’ve coloured out of line -_-

I actually view it more like a lipstick with moisture rather than a lipbalm with colour because its quite pigmented but they sure do look pretty!

Adding this to my ‘to-buy-list’ when I’m in Malaysia end of the month 🙂 By the way, do you know when is Sephora going to open there? I saw you mentioned seeing UD counter on your FB 😀

Paris, on something totally unrelated to your post, the Frisomom ad is really annoying. It doesn’t shift down smoothly when scrolling, and the close button doesn’t work >:(

hey i just bought this! i was hoping it would turn out sweet like urs but then mine turned out bright orangy pink!

It’s still quite nice but i wish to look for one that would give me a sweet pink..wonder if the three other colours would. Maybe my natural lips too red…

    But it feels really good..:)

I saw them in Watsons a while ago and was tempted to buy them, but I already have a bunch of lipgloss. =( Maybe I should get one in #2 or #4 after reading your review here! (Okay, just an excuse to go shopping, haha!)

    Hi,
i bought the same range but in Shade Number 4. And was quite disappointed as it had glitter. Cheap lipstick glitter isn’t the most flattering. So i wouldn’t use mine for a day to day lip moisturizer for the office.
However the one you are reviewing doesn’t seem to have any glitter! And the coral colour looks a lot better than no. 4.
I might go down to watsons and check it out!
