Day 12 of 30 : Clarins Joli Rouge No. 729 Red Terra

May 23, 2011 Paris B 29 Comments

I’ve had this one for quite a while now. Took the photos and then forgot about it 😛 Never a better time than now to remedy that! 🙂

This was my first Clarins lipstick and I really like the formula of this one. Its very creamy but isn’t heavy on the lips and best of all, has no scent!

With a name like Red Terra, I was naturally already taken by it. But what really got me was how different it looks on the lips  compared to the colour in the tube. In the tube, the colour is a browned red. I’d even go so far as to say its dull. However, I personally think this is a colour many women of most skin tones can pull off, because its quite a “neutral” sort of red, if that makes sense.

The brand name is engraved on the lipstick… so you don’t forget 😛 The lipstick tube is slightly oval, which is in keeping with the rest of Clarins’ product packaging and if you notice, the slant on this lipstick is a bit shallower than normal lippies.

On my skin, this is the sort of colour you get. A red, but not super striking bright in-your-face red. Its really very wearable!

Also featuring Guerlain Lingerie de peau liquid foundation and Guerlain Blush G Serie Noir Blush

See what I mean? Its a red, but its not a siren red. If you are looking to dip your toes in the pool of red lipsticks, I will suggest that you take a look at Red Terra. The brown tones help to tone things down so you can wear this practically everyday, day or night 🙂

Pros: No scent, Creamy texture, Not drying, Pigmented colour

Cons: None

I’m glad I started this 30 day lip swatch project. Its helping me rediscover lipsticks and lipglosses I’d forgotten about, and colours that I might never have worn previously 🙂

Have you tried any Clarins Joli Rouge lipsticks? Do you have a favourite colour you think I should try? I might be keen to pick up another now that I’ve rediscovered these (which I actually prefer over Rouge Prodige!)

Thank you and yes the colour is a lot more wearable than the name suggests. Perhaps give this one a go if you are in the market for a red lipstick.

The Clarins Rouge 729 red looks great on you, you are right! flattering and classic. 🙂

by the way, your face base makeup makes your red lippy shines out too thus everything just pull off so perfectly together without overdoing or underdoing the counterpart. can i know what’s the base makeup, powder are you using in this post? very very nice!! 🙂 *clap hands***

U look so good in red. I’m no red person though. But I do like how red gives the wearer a quick wake up look. The only red in my stash is the mac wonder woman Lipgloss gifted to me. It’s a really bold red but very pretty.

Red is not a colour for everyone I’ll be the first to admit and it also doesn’t go with all looks. When I go for something light or Japanese style makeup, red can look quite garish!
