Fresh Modernist outlook with the Laneige Snow Crystal Modernist Pink lipstick

April 6, 2011 Paris B 35 Comments

I’d never tried Laneige makeup, have you? For some reason, they always flew under my radar. Well, let’s remedy that with a look at one of Laneige’s offerings for Spring 2011 – Snow Crystal lipstick in Modernist Pink.

There are 2 lipstick shades available in the Fresh Modernist collection. My luck of the draw was Modernist Pink which would not have been my personal choice. Its a shade that’s at once too cool and too pale for my liking. If I’m to wear pink, I want a pink with a punch! Modernist Peach, the other shade would have fared better. So that’s it for colour. Not to say that I won’t have swatches for you 🙂

Here they are! And it swatches nothing like how it looks in the tube.

  • Save

Clearly baby pink or barbie pink is not a colour I can pull off but I think it’ll look quite pretty if you have a sweet personality to go with it 😛 I’m of the strong lip colour variety 😛

Texture wise, it applies smooth with just a touch of shimmer. Its not too strong going on the lips, which is fine by me. The swatches on the lips are of 2 layers while the one on my arm is just swiped once. I actually rather like the texture of the Laneige Snow Crystal lipsticks. They are  a little drier than I’m used to from an Asian brand, but they do still apply nicely. I’d probably have to find a colour I like before I can say if I really love it because this shade of pink isn’t quite doing it for me 🙁

Pros: Light texture, Applies smoothly, Can be layered for intensity

Cons: Colour didn’t suit me, Packaging is a bit blah

The reason I say the packaging is a bit blah is because I don’t like lipsticks with clear plastic covers. Shu Uemura, I’m looking at you too!

  • Save

There is just no way you can make clear plastic look luxurious so I’d rather a simple opaque case than the ease of having a transparent plastic case. That’s just my view so please feel free to disagree LOL!

Here’s a picture of the Laneige Fresh Modernist collection for Spring 2011. I’ve got the eyeshadow palette to tell you about which I will, at some point in time. Now that one’s not too shabby at all! 🙂

The palette on the top left is the Fresh Modernist blush. Purple on the cheeks. Most intriguing! 😛 When you layer the purple over the orange, it cools down the tone so you don’t look like the Great Halloween Pumpkin. Its surprisingly fresh and pretty so don’t knock it till you try it 🙂 The palette at the bottom is the Fresh Modernist eyeshadow palette which applies shimmery and fairly pigmented, if you like those sorts of colours. Let me get some photos and I’ll come back to you on that one 🙂

Have you taken a look at this collection? Have you tried anything form Laneige? Well other than their skincare which I’m sure many of you would have tried at some point. Share if you have, and what you like from it.

Paris B

Laneige Snow Crystal lipstick retails at RM65 at Laneige counters. Modernist Pink is from the Fresh Modernist collection from Spring 2011 and is limited edition.

I love the pink on you!! You look so young! ^.^

But yeah, I’m really interested in Laniege cosmetics. Japanese makeup just isn’t my thing I guess.

I’m not a fan of the packaging too 🙁 I love Shu’s glosses though. Packaging is not too bad. 🙂

I can’t remember Shu’s glosses packaging but although I might like their lipstick formula, I’m not into their clear plastic packaging. I stopped buying Shu lip products because of that. I can tolerate it in the eyeshadow/blush but not in the lipstick. I picked up Antigone! Still haven’t tried it.

I actually used to have an Estee Lauder lisptick in that same colour. I dunno what possessed me then, but I thought it was the best colour eva. 😀 Looking back, wow, what was I thinking?? Though I have to say this looks quite cute on you. Not your usual style, but very youthful and cute indeed!

I think the colour looks pretty on you. Shouts spring 🙂 That sorta pink’s my cup of tea but never been a fan of Laneige. Don’t think I actually bought any products from them because I alway left unimpressed after the visit at the counters. I’d much rather buy Dior Addict’s new lippie, I think it’s called Diorkiss? The one you blogged about earlier 😀

I’ve always liked the make-up line from Laneige so as soon as this collection came out, I got myself the blusher, lipstick and lipgloss. The lipstick was drying and having naturally dry lips made it even worst. I used it a couple of times and then gave up. I got the lipgloss since I was curious with the three-layer colors. It was described as ‘coral colors and non-sticky texture’ but I thought it was more of a nude color and too sticky for my liking. Another disappointment since I love their snow crystal shimmer lipglosses. Fortunately, the blusher turned out great so maybe 1 out of 3 isn’t such a disaster. I mix all three colors for my cheeks and lightly dust the purple all over the face. It really brightens up the face for that fresh look. =D The tiny brush that comes with it was useless though, I had to use a proper blush makeup brush.

Hi Liz did you try applying a layer of lipbalm before the lipstick? I find it helps with this one. Apply a thin layer, let it sink in and then apply the lipstick. 😉

Nice to know you’re liking the blush. It certainly looked fun 🙂

Looks gorgeous on you! I saw somewhere that had only the top of the cover in clear plastic, and regular opaque for the rest of the tube. Let’s you peek, but you don’t have to hate the clear plastic!

Hmmm, the blush seems a bit tricky. I guess I’m not that skilled to use it – I’d end up like an incredibly tanned Barney after layering too much blush just to get it right. As for pink lipsticks, I’d rather try the Dior one.^^ Bubblegum pink makes me look zombie-pale! But the colour does suit you! It makes you look sassy. 😀 The good thing about pink is that it is youth in a bottle! I mean, in a lipstick.^^

I have an old one from Laniege and the packaging is lovely! metallic white with some light bluish pinkish shimmer… and it’s METAL! or something, not plastic… hahaha… prb was, the colour in the tube is dark and nice but when u wear it on, it’s only shimmer… wait not shimmer, DISCO BALL!! too glittery for my liking and there isn’t any colour… my mom uses it as a gloss… hahaha… thank goodness it was free 🙂

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.
