Cheerful and Bright LeSportsac Nylon Bags

April 10, 2011 Paris B 32 Comments

It is most fascinating to have people ask me about bags. My one true love and extravagance haha… But I was surprised to receive some emails a while ago and then again, recently about LeSportsac bags and what I thought of them. Not that what I think is going to matter really. As with everything fashion related, its what YOU think that matters 🙂

lesportsac bags

But I’m always happy to chat about bags 😀 I actually adore LeSportsac bags. I’ve owned quite a few over the years in various designs as you can see, and they always make an appearance when I travel because they are lightweight, sturdy and cute! My personal faves are the messenger bags which are perfect for travel because you can sling them cross body and don’t kill your shoulders. You can also adjust them so you can carry them like a shoulder bag.

The material is sturdy padded nylon and is water resistant. What this means is that if you are caught in a raging thunderstorm and allow it to get soaked, then your stuff inside will get wet. However, if its just a light drizzle it’ll be alright.

What may or may not do it for you would be the design.

Most of the designs are very colourful with bright prints. Personally, I like it and every piece is unique because the placements of the designs will be quite different. Some will hate it for being loud, garish, childish etc. Personal preference 🙂 There are also some plain designs but we don’t see them as often. I scored the purple one above at an amazing price a few years ago. I think it was a limited edition design and its cute, because the metallic trim makes it look different from the norm.

lesportsac weekender

My latest acquisition is the weekender which I’d been wanting to get for ages. Its a good size for a weekend as the name implies and it even functions as an extra carry on bag if you are travelling on holiday. Because its a soft nylon without a firm base, it folds up, if not into a small package at least into a small enough size to fit into a suitcase. The other one I have (Top Left) also functions as a spare bag or weekend bag but is less roomy and has no lock or sling so is less practical. I do still use it as a spare bag or overnighter though. It fits quite a lot in there and you can carry it on board your flight.

And here’s another thing I like about LeSportsac bags – they all come with a pouch in a matching design!

lesportsac pouch

LeSportsac does pouches as part of their regular line, but these useful pouches come as standard together with most of the bags. Bigger bags have bigger pouches and vice versa. I use one of the smaller pouches as my makeup pouch in my everyday handbag. Perhaps I should say my lipstick pouch, because that’s all it carries 🙂 The bright print makes it easy to find and its light… so its actually all those lipsticks adding to the weight 😛 I use one of the bigger pouches to hold my travel documents when I travel.

A word of warning. When I recently bought my weekender, the girl at the counter told me it did not come with a pouch. I told her to perish that thought. Almost every LeSportsac bag I know of comes with a pouch and I know for a fact the weekender does. She went to check and true enough it did, except that this pouch had been kept in a drawer, separate from the bag instead of in the inner pocket as its usually found. I’m not sure if it was in the hope someone might overlook it but it was sneaky and so you should take note. If you plan to make a purchase, please remember to check the inner pocket for the included pouch and if its not there, ask for it.

Cleaning them is easy as far as I’m concerned. I just put them in a net bag and toss them into the washing machine on delicate cycle, cold wash, no spin. Gets them clean in a jiffy!

Now aren’t LeSportsac bags expensive for what they are? Nylon bags? Well yes…. if you buy them full price 😀 I never do because I’m not into collecting their latest designs. What I usually do is wait for Isetan or Metrojaya to go on sale, flash my loyalty card for the extra discount and look through the sale racks. The best deal I got is nearly 80% off and the least, 50% so the bags I own range from under RM100-250 max. I never pay retail 🙂 If you aren’t fussy over the design, you can get them quite cheaply during sales too.

I do realize fakes are abundant and you can easily get those very cheaply. But I don’t do fakes so that’s that 😉

How are you for LeSportsac? Like them? Hate them? 😉

I love their bags and pouches too. Like you, I usually get them on sale. They are one of the best bags to shop in as they are sturdy yet lightweight. Quite expandable too because I seem to be able to chuck quite a bit in them 🙂

Just tossed mine into machine n planning to bringit to my trip. Bit too small for everything but good enough to hold the essentials. 😀 I have another smaller shoulder bag but really to small for even essentials

Its great just for a carry on handbag for a guidebook, passports, tickets, bookings, cardigan, water, wallet, souvenirs… 😉 I have a little sling bag too but realized it can barely hold my wallet 😛

I love these too. When I bought my first bag, the SA told me that she first bought hers 10 years ago and it was still going strong. Talk about quality! 🙂

I love Le Sportsac for it’s durability and prints. I have about five right now and i’ve got them at sales too. Usually at 30% off. However, need to air them and rotate the use of these bags on and off. I had one which i stored away for too long and it gave off a very musty smell which er…smell like vomit. Tried ways to clean to remove that smell but doesn’t work. Hence, despite loving the print very much, i had to discard it.

Yikes! That sounds (smells) awful! 🙁 I haven’t had any problems with any of mine even though I don’t use them that often. That said, I do air them out or wash them before storing just in case.

They are expensive if you want to get them at full price. But really, if you aren’t too fussy, take a look the next time they go on sale. It can be more affordable then 🙂

i have not bought any lesportsac bags at retail price because i am not into whimsical prints.. but I have one lesportsac sling and i got it free by buying lesportsac anniversary mook from japan. it was only SGD 20+ it has several cards slot, space for handphone and slim wallet and coin compartment. i got it because its black with small silver glitter. haha..the most non-whimsical design of all!

its really handy for travel as it can fit in a passport, ids and other travel documents. plus i can sling it across my body so i use it when i am running errands or buying groceries. so i can go handsfree. 🙂

I have heard of the LeSportSac mook, but I haven’t seen it for myself. Great to know you picked up a nice bag at a bargain price! 🙂

Hi Hanny! The bags with the gorilla (or is it orangutan?) are Kipling bags! But most of them are also made of nylon, so… 🙂

The Kipling one? I unfortunately am not into Kipling. I just don’t like the texture or design for some reason.

Are they hard to get there? I didn’t realize that. Probably pricier too huh? It was a little harder to find locally, but I think they’re getting a little more aggressive in marketing so there are actual stores and more designs available now which is, of course, great! 😉

my second one is and Everygirl Tote! 😀 comes with a pouch too!

I’m looking for the tokidoki ones though 🙁

I love Le Sport Sac bags! I don’t have any for some reason, but I always look at them when I see them in a department store or pass a Le Sport Sac store. I have a few little pouches but that’s it.

I do like them because they are lightweight bags and have colourful designs – but yeah, the price isnt that great and I am always tempted to buy a cheaper alternative (read : fake!!!) – but then again, I haven’t bought one yet. I love shopping in Asia – so much cheaper than australia. Costs an arm and a leg.

Is your weekender the larger sized one or a medium? I have a medium and it is great for traveling.

I use it as spare cabin luggage. I am not sure if you aware but the bag could be folded into its own pouch. So, I just need to throw a slightly puffy pouch in my check in for my outgoing trip and use it to hold all those fragile souvenirs when coming back. =P

Its the Medium one (I think) Not too big and perfect for the cabin. I didn’t know it could be folded into the pouch! I’m going to try that when I go home today and if it does, that’s going to be so perfect for travel 😀 Thanks for the tip!
