MWS Weekend Poll No. 5 : Lights out for Earth Hour

March 26, 2011 Paris B 26 Comments

Happy Saturday Ladies!

What are you doing this weekend? I have such a packed Saturday, I don’t know if I’ll have time to breathe! Oh yes I will – I’m headed for a facial I purchased using a group deal. Let’s see if its going to be as awful as the other group deal spa I went to 😀 I’ll be sure to update after I’ve been 🙂

specs without lenses? why?

Spectacle frames without lenses? Yay? Nay?

I’ve been seeing this emerging fashion trend here, where both guys and girls are sporting spectacle frames without lenses in them. Clearly therefore, they don’t need corrective lenses but what’s with the trend? I don’t get it. I had Lasik so I’d never have to wear spectacles again! So you’d never catch me wearing this trend 😛

Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour?

Earth Hour’s today at 8.30-9.30pm if anyone’s keen on observing it. I’m having dinner with my family so maybe we might not notice if its by candlelight LOL

Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?

Personally I think not. The principle behind it is sound but practically, I don’t think an hour in a whole year makes a difference. Now if we all practice it for an hour a day, that might make more of a difference 🙂 I do know that turning off non-essential electrical points and lights everyday can be a huge saving on the electricity bill. Oh and I’m not for companies using this as another method to boost sales, by having special deals during this hour.

Vibrating mascaras! Yay or nay?

I tried the first 2 that came out – Lancome and Estee Lauder and didn’t think them all that to be honest. I’ve got another 2 to tell you about – Dior and Maybelline Pulse. The latter is going on shelves in May 2011 🙂 To be honest, the Dior one is a revolving mascara, less so vibrating but the principle is the same.

Your favourite afternoon snack?

For me, its something deepfried and unhealthy 😛 I love goreng pisang (deepfried bananas) especially if you dip them in a cili padi soy sauce mix! Its a Johor thing 🙂

mws poll

  1. Spectacle frames without lenses? Yay? Nay?
  2. Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour?
  3. Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?
  4. Vibrating Mascaras? Yay or Nay?
  5. Your favourite afternoon snack?

And if you’re not up to doing the poll, hop along to see what some other blogs have been on about in March 2011 🙂

    1. Spectacle frames without lenses? What on earth ……NAY!!!!!!
    2. Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour? Not on purpose.
    3. Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?
No. It has become a marketing gimmick for businesses to make more money. I’ve lost count of the number of leaflets I’ve seen promoting some set meal deal coinciding with Earth Hour.
    4. Vibrating Mascaras? Nay! What a way to promote slothfulness. Also, I do quite enjoy wiggling the mascara wand myself, thank you very much.
    5. Your favourite afternoon snack? Chocolates (and at the moment, it is Dajm that is the chocolate of choice). Heck! Chocolates are my favourite anytime snack!

Set meals for Earth Hour? Did they promote it as a “romantic candlelight dinner”?

1.Spectacle frames without lenses? Yay? Nay?
Nay!!! I don’t understand this fashion statement.

2.Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour?
No. Because I practice saving the energy throughout the year, 1 hour does not make a difference to me.

3.Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?
No, but it’s a great marketing campaign! I have to applaud that :), it sort of makes people who are never really green to at least do something, like something as simple as switching off the lights for an hour:P

    4.Vibrating Mascaras? Yay or Nay?
Nay!, Unless you have a glowing reviews on them 🙂

    5.Your favourite afternoon snack?
    apple pie ala mode!

I think Earth Hour would be more effective if it was marketed as an “Electricity saving” or “money saving” campaign. Turning off non essential electrical points (and removing the plug) has saved me lots of money!

    1. Spectacle frames without lenses? Yay? Nay?
Nay! My friend use that quite often and I always feel thats weird. Im struggling to get rid of spectacle that i wear for more than 10 years.

    2. Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour?
The last 2 years yes, but this year maybe not. Coz the last 2 year I always went to earth hour event in KL. But this year not.

    3. Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?
Nope, only on that particular hour, after that…. forgot already… hahaha

    4. Vibrating Mascaras? Yay or Nay?
Err…. wanna give it a shot maybe if the price is not killing my pocket. Havent try it before.

    Your favourite afternoon snack?
Pisang bakar coklat keju susu (grilled banana with chocolate, cheese, and condensed milk). This is indonesian snack :D. Haven’t eat it for a year… miss it so much… hahaha.

Have a good weekend, PB! 😀

Us spectacle wearers (or ex-spectacle wearers) will never understand the trend. The only time I put on glasses is when I wear sunglasses! The pisang bakar thing sounds absolutely decadent!

    1. No – just another douche thing. People should wear glasses for the usual reasons – deteriorating eyesight 😛
    2. No, but thinking of hitting the second home tonight as I’ve never been out when it happens.
    3. Nope – it’s just an annual publicity stunt and I’m not a believer.
    4. I already don’t do mascara, so to pay more for vibrating one… no.
    5. Banana fritters FTW!

Even if they want to make a fashion statement, I think the glasses should at least have lenses, just plain glass/plastic maybe? It just looks so weird to not see lenses but just a frame!

though this is the first time i hear about earth hour but the idea is kinda lame. one hour is not going to make a huge change. i prefer rather save more energy or that sort everyday. and you did lasik? how do you think of it?

Ah I’m guessing its not heavily promoted where you are? It might have begun last year or 2 years ago (I could be entirely mistaken) and its a worldwide initiative, but I think the whole thing is over done 🙁 You can read my experience with lasik by following the link in the post above 🙂

    I actually wasn’t home… but if I was!
    3. Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment?
Yes it does – but the effect is temporary.
    4. Vibrating Mascaras? Yay or Nay?
It’s way too weird, and I have this fear I might stab myself in the eye with it.
    5. Your favourite afternoon snack?
An apple on a good day and basically anything deepfried and/or chocolatey on a bad day.

    1. Spectacle frames without lenses? – definitely a Nay. what on earth??!

    2. Are you turning off your lights for Earth Hour? – No. because I think I already practise good habits to conserve energy and resources every single day by encouraging recycle paper at work, printing in draft mode when we need to print drafts, turning off the lights when not in use, not using air condition when I don’t feel hot, turning off the shower when i shampoo and wash my body, and the list goes on and on. I agree with you that just an hour in a year doesn’t make much difference except for those huge buildings like KLCC where they are usually lighted up at all hours?

    3. Do you think that Earth Hour helps you be more aware of the pressures we place on the environment? – I’ve been involved in environment conservation projects since my school years. Therefore, I am aware of the issues. But being aware and not doing anything much may not make any difference *wink*

    4. Vibrating Mascaras? – Nay! mascaras are expensive enough for something that needs to be thrown out every 3 months. But have something battery-operated and thrown in 3 months do not agree with one who agrees with earth hour *double wink*

    5. Your favourite afternoon snack? – hardly snack. but if i do, it’d be jacob’s plain biscuits with hot tea 🙂

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
