Just Swatching : Smashbox Cosmetics Burlesque Makeup Kit

March 2, 2011 Paris B 13 Comments

Did you watch Burlesque? The movie with Cher and Christina Aguilera in it. I didn’t, but I read that the makeup in the movie was quite something. I actually thought it had come and gone and only just realized that it’s only just opened in the local cinemas 😛

Still, movies aside, I bet you also knew that Smashbox Cosmetics had a  Smashbox Burlesque collection of colours inspired by the movie. It was released internationally as part of the a Holiday 2010 collection and I initially thought we weren’t getting it. Well, we are! 😀 Just the Burlesque box set though. The traincase set is way too pricey.

The kit comes in a box set, comprising an eyeshadow quad, a dual ended lipgloss, a shimmer powder and my favourite, the Smashbox liquid eyeliner pen that is sooo amazing, it will be dedicated a post to its very own soon 🙂

The eyeshadow quad contains 3 powder shadows and 1 cream shadow, which can double up as an eyeshadow base or  liner. The cream shade is that green-black shade that I was coveting from afar for a long long while. The rest of the colours are the usual Smashbox eyeshadow quality – smooth and buildable without excessive shimmer. Here are the swatches I took of the palette.

If you layer the colours over the cream shadow, it turns into a darker very pretty shade. I don’t have this set though, hence no testing for wear or for blendability 🙂 If you have this set or have tried it, please let us know what you think of it! 😀

The dual ended lipgloss is a gorgeous red on one end and a pale pink on the other. The red is a deep bright very sexy red while the other end is a pale pink that hardly shows up on me. Based on my previous experiences with Smashbox lipglosses, I must say I was impressed with the red. Its the most pigmented I’ve ever seen in Smashbox Cosmetics.

The shimmer powder is a tub of light champagne-pink coloured shimmer.

It swatches a shimmery highlight though, so if you are into shimmer, this would be great but for the everyday woman, we’d likely just stick to using it in the corners of our eyes to perk it up quite prettily 🙂 The liquid liner is the same one from the Spring 2010 Heartbreaker collection and is now permanent. Hurrah!

Have you checked out this collection and do you have any thoughts on it? I think its a pretty kit. I might have preferred the shadow quad to be just powder shadows and I think the pink shadow could even double up as blush. I like the red end of the lipgloss but not the pale pink. If it was separate, I could have given the pink one away. The liquid eyeliner is wonderful stuff! So, if you don’t have similar colours, its quite a worthwhile set to have. If you have similar eyeshadow shades, perhaps you can pass along and wait for another 🙂

The eyeshadows are great! But I wonder why this movie generated so much makeup hype eh? 🙂

I loved the show!! ^.^ and yes, Burlesque is being capitalized upon. OPI has a collection on the movie too, I believe. ^.^

But as for the collection, it seems a little… Meh.

Oh I loved the collection (except for that light pink gloss) and yeah, OPI has a collection too. I’m wondering why this movie generated so much hype though.

I saw Burlesque and thought it was ok. And I agree that everyone is capitalizing on it at the moment!

I love the look of the eyeshadow quad but nothing else has caught my eye.
