Investigating the very versatile Bric’s X Bag

March 27, 2011 Paris B 18 Comments

A while ago, when I was seeking views on Longchamp Le Pliage bags, a couple of readers drew my attention to Bric’s. Bric’s? What on earth… Naturally, being a bag fiend, I was intrigued 😀

You can’t imagine my excitement at seeing Bric’s at Rome airport when I was leaving the country. I hmmed and hawed over it, debating if I really wanted to get one (I did) and if I really needed one (I didn’t) hehe… In the end, I didn’t get the Bric’s bag and ended up something quite a little more extravagant 😛

Never mind all that, I was reminded of Bric’s again recently when I saw their store at Bangsar Village 2 🙂 Its probably elsewhere too. Some readers reported spotting it in Isetan KLCC (??). I learnt that Bric’s is more than the popular Bric’s X Bag, they have travel luggage and leather bags too.

I was drawn to all the other styles, yes (of course!) but I was also terribly drawn to the Bric’s X Bags. These X Bag totes are foldable bags made of strong nylon with leather straps and what makes them a little more versatile and perhaps special, is that the leather strap can be converted from 2 shoulder straps, into 1 long strap so you can wear your bag messenger style.

The bags also come with an additional pouch inside, that you can carry separately. Just attach the straps to it, and you get an additional bag. Quite useful and quite eye catching 😛 I was very close to walking out of the store with the red X Bag Medium Tote, but I was good and resisted 😛 Sealth camera shots explain the poor photo quality.

Personally, I don’t think them similar to the Longchamp Le Pliage, if that’s your comparison point. Even if the material is similar (Bric’s is thicker), the Le Pliage is a touch more elegant to me, even if detractors say its over done. The Bric’s X Bag is however, more serviceable and casual. I like that the X Bag allows you to convert and sling the bag cross body. Its very useful for travel and looks smart too. Also, the compartments are easier to get to and it does not seem to be as much of a black hole as the Le Pliage which can be a right pain. There are internal compartments and external zips and that extra pouch is certainly useful. I don’t know if it can be folded up much – it looks like it might be a bit bulky once folded but it is definitely an excellent travel handbag you can tote around cities while maintaining a bit of chic 😉

I don’t see myself carrying it for a formal business trip the way I did the Le Pliage, though, but that’s just my view 🙂 I do still sorta want one though 😛 Do you have a Bric’s X Bag or any Bric’s bag and do you have thoughts on it? Please tell me if I “need” it hehe… 😀

The retail prices for the Brics X Bag Medium Tote is about RM480 and the Large Tote is about RM680 and small tote about RM350+ – rough prices only and there was 10% off in store. Or check it out on www.brics.it which ships internationally.

I always do like a structured tote. Saw them hanging off the rack like the 2nd pic of your post at KLCC Isetan but didn’t go browse. They are quite pricey but dare I say, they don’t quite look it?

I think them roughly the same price range as Longchamp Les Pliages. They do look more casual but I personally feel they are hardier and are worth it as an alternative for those who might be thinking of paying for a Longchamp or Kipling. They do look very well made and feel very sturdy too 🙂

this is just too weird. i have been looking at bags on line for days now. but nope i am not looking at these ladies’ bag but a bag for my son for school. it’s a long story and i tell you that i finally purchased one. (yay!)

however, i want to drop in to tell you thank you so much about all the posts about bangsar village. i never really look at the shops there but only run in and out of that Cold Storage. (SAD). now I will for sure!

    but my wallet will cry.

PS: how do you like your LM palette? i wanted to buy it from the US as it’s cheaper but not sure how the eye shadows work. the purple indeed is cool but the 4 colours look lovely together.

could you please please please review that palette ASAP? Or at least let me know if I should order it? THANKS

Bangsar Village is one of my fave neighbourhood malls 🙂 It doesn’t have a lot, nor a big department store, but I like it – do explore it next time you’re there 😉 As for the Laura Mercier palette, I like it but the violet shade is a bit of a let down. The blushes are very pretty. I reviewed it a few days ago here 🙂

Read about this brand before they landed in KL. Many western celebrities are using Brics’ luggage bags. Mainly due to it’s kind of a branded label but at a “more affordable” (much cheaper in Europe, I think) price range. And ofcourse, since the celebrities will be traveling so often, they will not feel that much “ache” if the bags got scratched unlike if it were on LVs or Pradas 🙂

Main point I like on Brics is their simple designs and colours.

Oh I hadn’t heard of the celebrities getting into it (thought it might be too plain for them LOL!) But it is certainly very useful and I like the simple designs on offer 🙂 Like everything from Europe, its cheaper there 🙂

bric’s was brought in by the people from house of leather. so depending on the HOL outlet, u might be able to get bric’s bags there. i checked out the x bag at the HOL in mid valley. but like u, i didnt succumb – yet!

I have both and I must say, I always travel with my Brics. Here’s why I prefer it compared to Le Pliage. 1) Bric’s has an outside zip pocket which is incredibly useful for phone / ID to go through security; 2) crossbody bag that snaps inside, useful when traveling, I usually do take another bag, but this comes very handy at times; 3) strap snaps make it easy to hook things on, like a travel pillow. Good luck on your search.

Just bought the large and I love it! Not so big that I looked swamped by it (I am shortish), but more than ample enough for all my traveling gear in the plane. It even fits my MacBook Pro 13 inch. It is so wonderfully light that it makes the best traveling companion.
