I was at Home-Fix DIY store yesterday checking up on safes. I have a strange affinity for DIY or hardware stores. They are always filled with such fun and strange things, and I’m always tempted to buy things I never thought I’d buy, like a slipcover for my washing machine (I bought this!), microfibre cloth for washing my car (I didn’t buy this – I’ll make do with a regular microfibre cloth), electric screwdriver (very nearly bought this one!) and err… safes – the sort one keeps all sorts of precious and important items and documents in. Doesn’t that sound so important? 🙂
Anyway, I came across a rack of various miscellany and I remembered getting some emails a while ago about where to find magnet strips for making your own palettes. Tada! The answer was revealed!
Here are various magnet strips you can purchase for a surprisingly small price at a regular hardware store.
For round pans, you could pick up the round magnets discs. They have an adhesive backing so you just have to peel off the backing, paste to the back of your eyeshadow or blush pan and you’re set!
If you have square pans, you have the option of using the magnet roll or the rectangle cut pieces. You can cut them to size quite easily and they too have an adhesive backing.
I like the look of the roll of magnet strips. You can cut small squares for eyeshadow pans and larger strips for blush pans so its very versatile.
So if you enjoy depotting your makeup, and placing them in tin palettes or magnetic palettes then you might find this useful 🙂 Just look in any DIY or hardware store. When I depotted my makeup before (I don’t anymore) I used to hunt high and low for magnet strips. I ended up using the fridge magnet sheets you sometimes get free from various promotions. It was all the rage once among insurance companies 😀
I hope you find this useful! 🙂 Now tell me: Am I the only nutter who enjoys browsing through a DIY store? 😀

I love browsing DIY stores too! My dad’s family owns a hardware store, so I grew up with the bad habit of comparing prices. “Ooh, this one is priced twice as much as you sell it!”, “You’re not selling this!” and “I can’t believe this, it’s ridiculously cheap!” Aside from that, I like looking at things I don’t think I’ll ever have to own or use in my lifetime 🙂

LOL!!! I just know I’m going to regret not getting that electric screwdriver 😉 Actually, I’m out to get an electric drill too. I love messing around with DIY stuff so a drill will come in handy. Plus I really need to start hanging up some pictures on my bare walls! 😀

My dad actually has one of those electric screwdrivers, and although it’s fun to use, I still like to use the manual kind! I like to DIY but the drills scare me, hahaha. I’m afraid I might drill a hole in my hand or arm
ParisB says
YES! I have a fear that I’d hurt myself with a drill too but they can be so useful 😀

hrm my affinity isn’t exactly DIY stores, but more for art supplies or craftstores, which has DIY stuffs too! hahaahahah when i started to learn about depotting i used fridge magnets too!! then i found them in an art supply store in midvalley but they don’t have the adhesive and they only sell it in large sheets. had to cut them to round shapes damn susah. thank you for the tip, this is so helpful!!!

Oho you are a crafty one! 😉 I wandered into an arts and crafts store once. It was pretty amazing but I found it all rather pricey. Put me off attempting any forms of crafts lol! Glad a hardware store will give an easier option 😉

Me, me! I loooooooooooooove hardware stores. I was just in one today… lol.. was looking at faucets with great interest. Don’t ask me why. I love how I find the weirdest things there.
Will go look for the magnetic tape, I wonder if I can use it for Connor’s artwork. Plan to frame it up and then stick some magnetic tape on it and stick it on fridge.
ParisB says
Yes you can! Get one of those light frames from Ikea, stick magnet on back (might need strong glue) and stick on fridge! You might want to look into buying a bigger fridge soon! Lol!

Hey, that’s not too pricey for a roll of magnetic strip! Few years back they were harder to come by and a lot pricier. Finding a magnet sheet at some stationery store for 3 bucks was like finding gold.
