Juju Aquamoist Hyaluronic Acid Toner Lotion : The Other Hyaluronic Acid Lotion

January 6, 2011 Paris B 31 Comments

When I first tried the Hada Labo SHA Moisturizing Lotion, I had a whole bunch of people ask “How does Hada Labo compare to Juju Aquamoist moisturising lotion?” To which my answer was “Juju what?!” 😯

But nevermind that, I picked up a whole bunch of Juju Aquamoist lotions to satisfy my curiousity when I hauled at Sasa.com. The one I first broke out was the Juju Aquamoist Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Toner. Before I get into it, let me make an observation about the packaging.

Juju Aquamoist is available locally at Watson’s pharmacies. In store, I see that the lotions or toners come in a glass bottle with a screw cap. Mine came from Sasa.com and is in a plastic bottle with a flip top cap. I was curious about this difference, so I checked with the Japanese Juju Cosmetics site where I saw that they too use the image of a plastic bottle with a flip top cap.

juju aquamoist hyaluronic acid toner lotion bottle

Err… ok not 100% the same – the label on the website has a blue background, but everything else looks similar.

This leads me to believe that the glass bottles are being phased out or are older versions of the product. Then again, I could be wrong and it could be the other way around 🙂 Either way, that’s the observation I have about the packaging.

Now I’ve gotten everyone wondering about that, onto performance we go! 😉

By now, everyone’s familiar with the Hada Labo SHA Moisturizing Lotion and how you have to slap it on your face to get it going. Well you know what they say about reading instructions? Yes, do that.

I tried to be smart and thought I could do the same technique with the Juju Aquamoist moisture lotion. Slapping it on my skin only made my skin hurt, and it felt sticky. Unlike Hada Labo, the stickiness does not go away. The texture of the toner lotion is more liquid than Hada Labo. The latter has a viscous texture to it, Juju Aquamoist’s lotion is more like water but with slip.

So I looked up the instructions for how to use the Juju Aquamoist toner and it says I should “saturate a cotton pad and apply on face”. Alright, so I did that.

If you can read Japanese....

And you know what? It was so much better! Here’s how I use the Juju Aquamoist moisture lotion:-

  • Saturate a cotton pad with about 4-5 drops of the lotion (I’m quite liberal with it)
  • Wipe over face
  • Fold cotton pad between fingers and lightly pat balance of lotion all over your face

This way, my face does not feel like a sticky mess and the light patting motion cools down the skin while helps deliver the lotion into the skin. They don’t tell you to pat. I learnt it from using other Japanese type lotions that its worked all the time 🙂

You can also use this as a mask. Saturate a paper mask with this lotion/toner and leave on your skin for 10-15 minutes. It cools it down a treat and leaves it moisturized. I don’t have those paper masks so I use cotton pads 😀 Saturate a few cotton pads and place on my cheeks and forehead and nose. Tada! 😀

Pros: Skin feels moist and hydrated, Inexpensive, Fliptop packaging is quick and easy to use
Cons: Bit of a question mark over the packaging but no complaints about performance

Now for the multi-million dollar question : How does Juju Aquamoist lotion compare to the Hada Labo lotion?

I like both really. Was that anti-climactic? 😀

Both lotions leave my skin feeling soft and moist. I do follow up with a moisturizer every time but I believe both lotions help my skin remain more moist than if I did not use either.

You will use up the Juju Aquamoist lotion faster than Hada Labo SHA lotion because you use more. I’m exactly halfway through my bottle and I expect it’ll last me another month or so at max. Also the application techniques are different. They are not the same – bear that in mind and you’ll be happy. Keep comparing and you’ll never be 😛

Personally, I’d say these two products are quite interchangeable. It all depends on which you prefer because I think they both work well. Plus they are both quite inexpensive and wallet-friendly so its worth trying them to see which you prefer.

Have you tried the Juju Aquamoist Hyaluronic Acid Toner and do you like it? If you have tried both the Juju Aquamoist lotion and the Hada Labo SHA lotion, do you have a preference or are you like me and think they both work fine? 🙂

Juju Aquamoist Hyaluronic Acid Toner retails at ¥1260/180ml. Mine was purchased online for about US$11. If you know Malaysian prices please let me know in the comments and I’ll update.

I think them both similar too but I do like the effects of both because it seems to help my skin stay more moisturized overall. Will wait for your thoughts on the Laura Mercier! I’ve never used anything by Sekkisei – amazing huh? LOL!

haha yeah there is that small minority of people who can’t use Hyaluronic Acid. We seem to be seeing quite a few in the comment box here, which I think is great. Not everything works wonderfully for everyone 😉

I got a bit tired of Hada Labo after a while. And I did not like the fact that after a while, around 1/4 of the bottle later, the texture got thicker and more viscous. In a way, since I’m using up the Juju Aquamoist faster, I don’t see that happening 😉

Hyaluronic products break me out badly. I’m glad that it works for the majority of you though.

There seems to be a minority of people who react to hyaluronic acid. The good thing is that you know it, so you can avoid it! 😀

Yes, i did try hada labo lotion toner b4… N hate 2 admit tht im not a huge fan of it. It’s done nothing great 2 my face but leaving an uncomfort feeling of stickiness on my skin n causing me a lot of breakouts while using it… Surely n sadly, it hasnt made 2 the list of my daily skincare products. Btw, most of the japanese brand skincare products really dont work on my skin… Wonder y.

Its probably because hyaluronic acid doesn’t agree with you. As for Japanese skincare, sometimes, it might be to do with the level of alcohol in there. I used to use Japanese skincare but have since stopped because I found that for creams and lotions, Western brands suited my skin better. But for lotion/toner and cleansing oils and sheet masks, I still go back to Japanese brands because for me, they do it better.

I think I’ll skip Juju. I’m currently trying Hada Labo’s lotion & it’s good. I like not having to use cotton pads/balls because it’s a waste & not environmentally friendly 🙁

Yup Hada Labo’s lotion is good. But do let me know if yours gets a bit thick towards the end of the bottle. That bugged me quite a lot.

By end of the bottle, you mean about 10-20 % left? Mine is still half way, so far it’s not getting thick (yet). Is it uncomfortable to use a thick toner?

Towards the last 1/4 of the bottle and no, its not uncomfortable but I don’t like it and it took too long to pat in then.

For ME, the FW does NOT moisturize but it doesn’t strip my face of too much moisture while cleansing (I can feel the difference as my face is less dry in the mornings). I still need to use the lotion + moisturizing milk to ADD moisture.

I have used Juju Aquamoist HAM Toner before till depleted. Currently, i am using Habo Lobo SHA Lotion which left 1/5 in the bottle. I prefer Habo Lotion more. I didnt follow the same application technique while applying the Habo lotion –pat the face until non-sticky, rather I used it to massage my face (Tanaka Face Massage) and find that it is very effective. Habo Lotion is very smooth, the stickiness feeling will disappear after massage about 2 minutes. After that i will apply serum and moisturizer. Before sleep, will apply Naruko Rose & Snow Fungus Night Gelly which left the face feel hydrated and very smooth the next morning.

hmmm… the hada labo lotion broke me out while i had no problems with the Juju aquamoist at all. Even my friend said that the hada labo lotion broke her out as well. I bought my Juju aquamoist in hong kong because the moisturizer i had with me at the time wasn’t working very well during the winter time. It definitely kept my skin moisturized underneath my usual sunscreen. I definitely prefer Juju more than hada labo as 9 out of 10 of hada labo’s product usually breaks me out

Is there alcohol in any of the two products? (juju aquamoist and hada labo). And whats the difference in the three juju toner?
    1. Hyaluronic Acid Collagen Moisture Toner
    2. AQUAMOIST Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Toner
    3. AQUAMOIST Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Toner Light

    Thanks.

I’m not sure about Juju Aquamoist but I don’t think Hada Labo contains alcohol. I don’t know enough about the brand to be able to distinguish the different products. It seems to be for different skintypes. Best to ask a sales person.

It used to be sold at watson’s but if it’s not there anymore it means it’s likely discontinued.
