Spa Visit : Khareyana Spa, Petaling Jaya

January 12, 2011 Paris B 21 Comments

I’d mentioned the Khareyana Spa once before when I was there for a product launch. I was quite taken in by the place because it was so calming and relaxing. A couple of months ago, I finally had the chance to try the body massage and a mini facial at another product launch.

review khareyana spa massage petaling jaya

First of, the location of the Khareyana Spa in a bungalow in Petaling Jaya means that if you don’t have a car, you’d be hardpressed to get there. Its near Assunta Hospital, which is the best landmark I can give you.

Being in a bungalow, there is sufficient parking in the compound, and it has a homely feel. So once you step into the house, you literally leave your cares at the front door. Its done up in a Balinese style and what’s most intriguing is that the treatment rooms are located outside and accessible only by “stepping stones” while carp swim in the pool under your feet. If you are anything like me (blessed with poor coordination) and with oversized flipflops on your feet, you’d find yourself concentrating hard to make sure you don’t fall into the water 😛 But its probably just me 😛

Each treatment room is quite self-contained. There is a massage bed and a shower area for you to shower after the treatment if you so wish. I did, which left me feeling fresher than if I’d let the oils remain on my body. Its a matter of preference. The rooms are air-conditioned, but you can tell the masseuse to turn the air-conditioning down if you feel cold.

You are provided with disposable underwear, which I liked and a large towel to cover yourself. The masseuse leaves you alone to change and to get onto the massage bed, before they return for your massage.

I must commend the masseuse for an excellent body massage. I favour a strong massage (you tell them what you prefer) and she delivered on all counts. I even dozed off, which is a good measure of how good a body massage is. If its not good, I don’t sleep.

I was however, a little irritated by the frogs croaking away outside the window. Arguably, it having natural surroundings, sounds of nature was to be expected. But croaking frogs can be very irritating 😛  This was the last room in the row so maybe next time I’ll ask for a room in the middle so the frogs don’t congregate outside my window 😛

They also offer facials at Khareyana Spa, but I did not quite enjoy my experience with this. The same masseuse who does your body massage does the facial and her strong hands, that made my body massage so enjoyable, felt harsh on my face. I prefer my facialists to have a light touch. So all in all, I highly recommend the body massage but not the facials.

Oh and for couples, they do have a couple room with 2 beds. I think that’s the one I was in, which is large and has a sunken tub which is utterly decadent. I’ve also been in the single room which is smaller but still a very comfortable size.

Have you been to Khareyana Spa? I plan to return for a body massage soon because I have not found another place that can give me a good strong oil massage that works out all the kinks in my back and shoulders. Feeling the stresses of a new year already 😛 Prices are rather on the high side, which means that this will be a treat rather than a regular visit sort of place.

It kinda reminds me of Vila Manja – the stepping stones, anyway – the “uniquely-coordinated” be aware 😛

I had a voucher for Villa Manja but it expired and I forgot about it 🙁 The rooms there are located within the building though right? Not outside. I was curious what would happened if there was a sudden thunderstorm after your massage session. Would be tricky to get back to the main house from your “chalet” 😀

Yeah, the rooms are inside the building.

I say if you got stormed out during the massage, then you’re out of luck 😛 And the towel would come in handy.

I laughed at the “croaking frogs are irritating” comment as it reminded me of something. Apparently there’s an anthropological theory that South East Asian indigenous groups and the Japanese share similar genetic traits which causes them to enjoy the sound of croaking frogs. The gene was left out in the Chinese gene pool. =P

We should do a girly day out at Khareyana 😀 It’ll be so much fun! 😀 I love people in the service industry who take the extra trouble to make customers happy. Doesn’t cost them very much but we are happy 🙂

Ooh, I love Khareyana Spa. Thinking of going back there for a treatment this March when I get back to KL. Have not tried the facials before, but the body treatments sure are amazing! I dozed off too, it was just too relaxing! 🙂

Stong massage fans can maybe try Taman Sari @Cheras by Mustika Ratu. Their masseuse got super strong hand, i believe they can deliver your expected pressure. hihi. Have been there couple of times, excellent at all visits 🙂
