If you love me… Marry, Marry Me…

January 7, 2011 Paris B 29 Comments

I grew up with the sounds of Jim Reeves crooning away in the car with my Dad on long trips. For some reason, when I laid eyes on the Lanvin Marry Me! fragrance, I heard the sound of “Distant Drums”. Its an oldie but much much a goodie. If you are of the MTV generation, and have never heard this, I’ve got the song from Youtube below.

lanvin marry me perfume

I told you about the Lanvin Marry Me! fragrance before and if you view the ad campaign for it which I uploaded in that post, its got nothing to do with Jim Reeves. It is instead a story about young lovers meeting and falling in love, which is all sorts of beautiful. Jim Reeves’ song is more sad.

Somehow, I expected a perfumed called “Marry Me” to be warm and sultry. Instead, I was surprised to find a light fresh scent in the bottle.

There is a nice citrus top note which I swear is grapefruit and which my friend says isn’t but they could be right, because the press release said it was Tunisian bitter orange. I’ll stick to my grapefruit theory 😛

Underlying that light citrus note is a faint floral fruity scent with a hint of jasmine, that comes into its own after about an hour on my skin. Its pretty, light and delicate. A perfume you can easily wear everyday. Its a young sort of perfume.

I’d wear this in the day, on my day off, with a pretty dress and go walking hand in hand in a garden with a loved one in the Summer sun 😉 Or failing that, I’d day dream about it, by wearing this fragrance for the day but always, with a pretty dress. Its a perfume that calls for a pretty dress 🙂

You know what the hardest part about wearing this perfume is? Telling people who ask you what perfume you are wearing.

When wearing it, I’ve actually had 2 people ask me what perfume I was wearing. And both times, I had to pause, go “Err.. ermmm” and say “Lanvin, Marry Me”. It was important to say “Lanvin” because one of the persons asking was a guy and it would have just been too awkward 😛

And as promised, here is Jim Reeves with “Distant Drums” 🙂

Take a sniff the next time you pass by a fragrance counter. The bottle with the pink bow is eye catching as is the name. And tell me if you don’t feel like going to take a walk with your loved one in a summer garden… while wearing a pretty dress 🙂

I love Jim Reeves too! I’m selfish. Whenever others ask me what perfume I wear, I usually say I can’t remember. I hate people stealing my signature scent 😛 Also, perfumes work differently on different skin and body chemistries 😛

Yay for loving Jim Reeves! Isn’t his voice so soothing? 🙂 Its good to be selfish! As you say, at least people don’t start smelling like you 😉 For me, if its a normal off the counter scent that’s available all over, I’d tell because they’d be able to get it anyway. But if its something a little more unique, I might hold back 😉 As you said, perfume works differently on everyone after all!

awww such a cute name for scent! I can imagine the guy proposing to this girl by giving this fragrance then a ring is attached to it! Aaww, I’m being a hopeless romantic!

Its certainly adorable isn’t it? It should form a part of a proposal. It was made for it! 😉

Yes I thought it would be really useful for guys who are going to propose! Though I wonder if it’ll make women a bit hesitant about buying it for themselves, especially if you’re single, it may make you seem desperate or smth!

Hmm… that is a thought. But I don’t care what people think and I honestly don’t think the sales person does either because they really do want your sale LOL 😉 Lanvin sure is daring, that I gotta admit!

Good morning Paris. This is the first time I’m joining the discussion although I have been a reader of your blog for a year. Just wanted to share this. I have a friend, already in her 60s who like LeGeeque, will never tell what scent she’s wearing when asked cos she says she doesn’t want everyone to smell like her! She has also sworn her children to keep her secret. By the way I always enjoy reading your reviews and have made some purchases and avoided some based on them.

Hi Karina! 😀 Welcome to the comments, I hope it won’t be your last 😉 As I’ve mentioned to LeGeeque, if its a common sort of fragrance, I don’t mind telling people because fragrances work differently on everyone. But if its something a little more unique, I might have selective memory too 😉

I read somewhere that you’re not supposed to wear floral scents outdoors lest the bees get confused…. Getting stung is not fun 😛

That aside, I’ll check it out the next time I remember to walk past the department store counters..

Maybe you should just write down the name instead of just saying it.

HAHA seriously? Bees? Ok I don’t want to attract the wrong sort of attention then! 😉 I think its even worse writing it down. Its like written proposal or something… LOL

Heh heh, there’s that too – there’s no safe way to plug the perfume without unintentional marriage proposals… which might be their plan all along O_o

I’m such a conspiracy theorist, haha.

Haha… But I like his voice. You don’t get singers with that sort of voice these days. You get prepubescent boys with girly voices like Justin Bieber >.<

My parents used to listen to this song too, while on long distance travels. 🙂 Yea, I get whatcha mean about this scent and I just love this. My aunt got me this for Christmas and for me to like it, it’s news all over (I’ve been known not to like perfumes due to my sensitive nose…)

Pretty dresses because I’m presently on the hunt for a pretty dress and the weather here’s been rainy and gloomy so a bit of sun wouldn’t go amiss! 😉 I’m not sure how much it is in USD but if you go to xe.com you can convert from MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) to USD/CND to get a rough approximation of how much it costs here 🙂 If you are heading anywhere, wait to get it at duty free – bound to be better value 😉

now we’re at it.. pleeeeease explain to me the concept of duty free.. ur only saving on taxes right? i think i’ve heard from somewhere that asian airports run a lot of promotions in their duty free shops so you get discount + no tax. but i’ve never been to a duty free that has any kind of discount other than the obvious no taxes.. is it really a lot cheaper in duty free??? lol

Yes duty free means you save on taxes but sometimes airport duty free stores have sales where they have a discount on the nett price. Depending on the tax rate in the country you go to, savings can be substantial. E.g. In the UK, the VAT rate was 17.5% (now 20%) so prices at Heathrow will be cheaper by 20% now. If they have sales it might be even cheaper. Also, how much cheaper it is depends on the currency conversion and the prices in your own country. For me in Malaysia where we do not have a GST (At time of writing) some things are already a lot cheaper so it makes no duty free whether I buy it at Duty Free or not. But at duty free, you sometimes get exclusive sizes or products they don’t sell inland. Duty free is a lovely place to spend time… and money 🙂
